Re: Madden is FINALLY doing it. Time for the show to follow suit
I play both Madden and the NHL series. I have fun with the games. But they are arcade like with simulation elements. They are no where near the quality for offline franchise players like The Show and 2K.
Now don’t get me wrong. Madden 18 (starting in February) is IMO the strongest entry in the series in terms of gameplay. And NHL 18 is also a fun game with expansion mode (gameplay feels almost exactly the same to me as NHL 16 which was my last version before getting 18 for $18). The games are fun.
I know some people here feel The Show is going that way (more arcade). But playing 18 every day since it dropped that could not be farther from the truth. I am also playing 2K18 again and it is a joy. Both these sports titles really do a great job for console games in replicating their sports.
Games can always improve. And visually 2K and The Show are not as refined as Madden. And again....to me that’s ok. I rather they focus on AI and gameplay as well as depth inside franchise mode. And 2K and The Show do offer the deepest franchise modes for console sports games IMO. I don’t play FIFA but I have heard great things about the depth of that series franchise mode.
I happen to think this years version of The Show is the most visually stunning version yet on a 4K TV in high framerate or enhanced visual mode mode. The parks are gorgeous, the weather effects (rain, fog, light transitioning) are stunning to me. Love it.
Now if only The Show were on PC and was moddable... sorry, drifting into wish list thoughts :PComment

It's aged poorly and the translation is terrible and I still play almost once a year.
And now I'm off topic answering a rhetorical question.Comment

Can't say it's not working given the money they make, which means a lot of these consumers continue to eat up what ever they produce.
People seem to hate them....and buy their products anyway?
I don't know, but I gave up trying to figure out consumer behavior. It's why I don't invest in most retailers lol.
But I'd invest in a game maker - EA being one of them.
After all, EA can't impress investors without sales and earnings. They get sales from where? Consumers. Ones that supposedly hate them."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

I agree with the other poster about fielding. It's the one gameplay aspect that I do feel is lacking but the hitting and pitching engines I think are great. The ball physics and hit variety is the best in the series thus far.

As a publisher though, EA has always been terrible, on every level. They've systematically destroyed most of the Dev studios they have bought up over time. And I can remember as far back as the 90s pulling my hair out trying to get ANYTHING out of customer service from EA. It's like trying to get blood from a stone.Comment

However, I will say that when I see Madden plastered all over ESPN with guys playing in a money making tournament, I'm going to take a wild guess and say that the single offline franchise player such as myself isn't their target audience.
And while I don't buy their sports games, I am an investor in EA.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Before i even start reading the rest of this thread, these are my thoughts exactly. Madden is the champion of over-promising and under-delivering.Comment

I think youre giving them too much credit. I love me some football but i have believed their marketing pitches too many years before i realized it. That being said, i hold out some glimmer of hope every year and might possibly still play it. Maybe.Last edited by NolanRyansSnowmonkey; 05-26-2018, 10:33 PM.Comment

No. No no no no no no no. What an absolutely ridiculous statement given the patch they just dropped and some of the gameplay changes they’ve made over the last few years.
Also just look at Madden’s twitter pages. If someone points out an issue and provides proof then 99.9% of the time the Madden teams response is “you’re playing the game wrong/you don’t understand how the game works”.
For all their faults SDS is 100 Times the developer than the Madden team and they do it with a fraction of the team and a fraction of the budget.

Stop with the snark comment. If you have a different opinion (which is fine), explain it and be mature.
