This is the one stat, in my opinion, that really needs to be updated and put in the game. Surprised it isnt already. It will be at some point im sure. This isnt really even a "sabermetric" stat, as its very basic and important. I would much rather have this stat than some of the saber stats that made it into the game.

    That’s too much math lol

I’m a stats nerd and have spreadsheets and I also score every game using an app on my phone for easy reference. That app keeps basic and detailed stats for hitting, pitching, and fielding.

Lol alright. It literally only takes like 10 seconds. I do it in my head after each game.

I do this too, for my main franchise. Have for years and still have all the stats on my phone. But for the other franchises i just look at those 5 stats and do the quick math

Not really sure what is good or bad on BABIP.
My team Ave. is .248 My team BABIP is .289
            I have 41 HR’s in 38 games.

I think this years version is fantastic, best game I have ever played.

Totally agree on this years version. I wish i had three thumbs, they would all be up.

Babip league average is steadily right about .300 in MLB year in and year out. Which means 30% of all balls put in play in the league (not including home runs) are base hits. (If you add in home runs, the league batting average is closer to .330 when they dont strike out)

Year in and year out, the worst babip in the league is somewhere around .275 to .280 at the end of the season.

A .289 babip isn't bad, because it falls into the realm of possibility (approx .275 to .325 babip over a season, give or take). So i would consider .289 very realistic. However a .289 babip would be somewhere near the bottom 5 or 6 teams in the league most years.

Babip can take a while to stabilize, so the more games you play the more truth it tells. Babip means nothing for a single game or even 10 games.

I would be happy with Babip at .289 for realism, for one team, even though its on the low end. To me, a realistic babip is the main thing that makes the Show realistic, since it means that the correct amount of balls are finding grass for base hits (usually singles). Otherwise, you're having to make up for it in other ways like unrealistic strikeout numbers or home run numbers.

Its very possible to have plenty of fun even without Babip being realistic, it really just depends if you are desiring something closer to MLB, or if you simply want something competitive without worrying about numbers. Both are very doable with little effort with MLB the Show, which is what makes this game great. There is no wrong way to play.

With a realistic strikeout rate, and the amount of home runs you hit, i would be very happy with where you are at at .289. If i were below .275 for very long i would probably lower fielder reaction a bit to increase the percentage of balls that end up being hits to a realistic level (which is almost 1 out of every 3 batted balls).

I never expect to get stats perfect (i play default hitting). But, with very little effort with fielder sliders, i can dial in the results of Balls in Play to a realistic amount, which is what most of the game of baseball is comprised of.

I am averaging 8 strikeouts per game and walking 4 times. I did a little research on BABIP and found the range to be spot on with what you said, but what I really noticed was the MLB Cardinals BABIP was .286. Pretty dang close.

Yeah you are right on with those stats across the board. Its crazy how well this game's hitting is tuned. Thats awesome!

The only thing which really breaks the realism of the game is the management of the roster by the CPU, especially the pitching staff.

I played a match where their SP got injured during the warmup and, instead of putting the next SP from the rotation, the CPU decided to put a reliever with 24 stamina. He was gone after 2 innings and the CPU continued to put almost all of their relievers during the game. It's a 4 game series and it was the 2nd game....

Other than that, this game is really awesome to play.

CPU trades are FUBARed. Yeah sure if we are paying attention to our own teams we can veto a trade by using manual save files. But what about all the other teams? Are people monitoring all transactions from all teams day in day out? There isn't enough hours in the day to do this sort of thing and because of this after a year or two of RTTS play you end up with a rather bizarre looking league. I did not notice it until it was too late, but in one of my RTTS save files the Yankees traded Aaron Judge to the Phillies for some no name prospect and I only noticed it well after the fact when my RTTS SP got called up to the Braves MLB team.

Don't get me wrong, RTTS can be fun to play. But I question how much they tested it. There is far too many bizarre things happening in a given RTTS save file to think SDS did thorough regression testing on the mode.

I haven't been posting much here, because I don't have much to say and would rather keep playing the game, because it is a lot of fun. I'm almost to the All-Star Break in my Mets franchise, playing on default All-Star across the board.

OK, see, I am not so bothered by that. A guy gets injured during warm-ups and you can't bring up a guy from the minors (not enough time to fly him out there).

                              You basically have 2 options:
                              • Start a reliever
                              • Start another rotation member on short rest, meaning you either call up another guy the next day or you wind-up bumping up everyone else's start to realign the rotation.

If you don't want to start a guy on short rest (for performance and/or durability concerns), you have to go with a reliever.

NOW....if the game's AI then leaves that RP in the rotation moving forward, THAT is a problem. But if restricted for that one game....I think it adequately takes one available option to real life managers and implements it in-game.
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.

If anyone reads these forums with regularity you'll know I have had no luck. Couldn't be worse. I've had differences with people fundamentally, yet respect them, genuinely, because baseball. Finally broke my losing streak at 22 losses. Regardless of my opinions (theories/criticisms) on certain aspects of the game - this game is quite awesome.

Baseball is like that. It's pretty amazing, and I think this video game does a good job representing a facsimile of actual baseball.

I wish I disliked baseball...or this game (but not really).
