Re: Why is every bunt a rocket this year?

The last couple days I have been playing with this and trying the pull back method. After watching multiple replays it's my impression that once the player goes into the bunt animation you can't stop it. If the ball is way out of the zone you are able to pull back, but if it's in the zone then the player will move in to hit it and you can't stop it once that animation starts. I set up a play-now game and did nothing but bunt with both teams for 9 innings. So now I'm not really sure there is a way for a human to adjust to the bunt.

**I was only testing the idea of pulling back during a bunt. I did not take into account the players ratings (pitcher or batter), pitcher confidence, or situation.

      pull back and pray method...

wouldn't bet on that as it's not the best route.

I hear ya, I was just doing some testing on what was brought up on a similar thread a few weeks ago about trying to take some of the power out of the rocket bunt.

It tends to work for me as well as any other.

I'm sitting here dying laughing... Yeah, I think the joke has been lost in translation. Bunting & "intimate activity" - I'm not sure what the conversation is anymore. But it did give ME a good laugh!

It actually simulates the motion of a bunt in real life. It doesn't work every time and I need a lot more practice, but when it does work it looks like a real representation of a bunt.
I’ve had a few inadvertent check swings that have given me superior results to a bunt.

if SDS created rocket bunts to counter online cheasers, maybe for 19 a better solution would be for SDS to make those bunts foul balls instead of potential double play threats.
I think that would be more realistic.

If they were following that line of thinking then it would have been fixed for 18 because they changed it in 17. I hope for the sake of the game they revisit it again because it really is the definition of a band aid type fix.

for some reason I have good success bunting using the zone hitting mechanics. When I use directional, the rocket bunts happen pretty much every time.

Re: Why is every bunt a rocket this year?

I never play online, so i am sure that just don't know what i am talking about. But why can't they just modify the game to adapt to online play, and offline play seperately? At least in the major problem areas, like bunting.

I mean, if it does not already use offline/online differences, why does online hitting play so much differently ("broken" according to many) than offline?
Shouldn't it play the same, if its the exact same game, unless they modify it in areas to make up for some human element?

I was talking to a friend of mine who is very knowledgeable about computers and programming, etc (who also plays a ton of video games, but not the Show). I told him about the few things i would change in the Show, like bunting, because online play has dictated that they make bunting suffer, even for offline players.

He looked quizzical, and said it sounds ridiculous because in his opinion it shouldn't be a big deal to differentiate between an element of play, depending on whether a player is playing online or offline. He then matter-of-factly rattled off about 3 or 4 games i may or may not have ever even heard of, and how they had certain elements set to react differently, depending on online/offline.

I really had no idea what he was talking about at that point, i just grinned and nodded. But according to him, he thinks its 100% fixable to make both operate differently, but that they've simply chosen to focus their attention elsewhere. If this is true, i wish they would make fixing bunting a priority to adapt for both modes.

One thing is for sure, i dont really have any idea how it all works.

I use zone and i see rocket bunts regularly (in the rare cases i bunt anymore). Ive practiced a few of the workaround ideas with a little success, but nothing near realistic.

I did desperately need a baserunner the other night, with speed guy who was in a major slump, and miraculously dropped a perfect bunt when i needed it most, but typically this is not the case.

They have segregated online fixes before. A perfect example was when people were abusing the ability to call time out in the box. They addressed it by reducing the frequency and it never affected offline players. Hopefully this odd quick fix is just a bridge to maybe a refined bunting mechanic. Might be just wishful thinking.
