Like armor said above it may not be a day 1 purchase and like others said I may wait until a price drop if they do not do something to franchise mode. I have plenty of franchises to keep me busy on 18 if need be

yeah me too I will be done too, when madden removed 32 team control and a million other things 6 years ago I never have been able to go back. I tried and last 2 days and give up since then.

So I hope MLB the show doesn't go down that same fate but maybe I am just getting too old?

Too much focus ON DD worries me. it's starting to become a very EA ultimate team crap. which to me isn't a sports game it is a fantasy game.

You can't have both. You just can't.

I played MVP 2005 for 5 straight years on the PS2 until I finally leaped to the PS3 and MLB The Show 2009.

I went through a major adjustment in terms of fielding.

Defense on MVP 2005 was fantastic. Why? Well it did not look nearly as beautiful as MLBTS 2009, but man was it highly responsive.

I got so frustrated with the clunky animations based defense I eventually switched to auto fielding and manual throwing on 2009 and enjoyed the beauty of smooth animation based fielding and letting player ratings determine if they make the play (I do all the throwing though).

Again if you want ultra responsive fielding.....you have to sacrifice animations.

I am not a game developer, but I do know that is massive factor and why sports games today seem not as responsive as they did back on the PS2 days.

But I will take today's sports games in a NY minute over the PS2 games. They blow them away in every which way. But the small sacrifice was less user input for a better more life like looking game.

          Pick your poison.

In terms of the threads question,

I am at that inflection point on the PS4 with sports games. I am of the belief they are maxed out in terms of AI and yes even gameplay.

I feel the The Show 17 felt like the first next gen Show title we had been waiting for.....and 18 just really took it to a much higher level.

I am so in love with 18. It plays an amazing game of console baseball. Color me skeptical, but I am simply of the opinion (until proven otherwise) that gameplay is as good as it could get right now. Can it be tuned a little more? Yeah. But nothing groundbreaking is going to happen IMO. Heck AI logic in terms of team building was really improved on 18. Trades logic is far better.

That brings us to franchise. I would love to see some nice additions in terms of depth like everyone else. If I see that gameplay does not regress and franchise is given some much over due TLC at some point.....I will own 19.

But for the first time I am saying it is not a day one purchase for me. I am that immersed in 18 and all the franchises and rosters I have right now. I don't feel the urge....at all.

          Time will tell.
          Armor and Sword,

Trying to understand your response. Are you saying that those ideas for improved animations are a current generation hardware limitation?

It can be and will be done. I know exactly what you're conveying, but trust me. There's always a way.

It's just the way most sports game handle animations is the issue. They play like a movie without the ability to stop them. That's what has to change in order to get smooth and realistic animations while also having responsive control of it all.

The animation system would need transitions for when a controller input is pressed to bridge out of the current animation into another animation, which would be a faster animation.

I mean, the old games weren't realistic anyway. A human can only field a ball and throw it to first so fast. There's a limit to how fast it happens. This would all be data that would have to be compiled for the developers to consider to revamp the animation system.

            They won't do it.
Do it. (Release The Show for PC)

The only thing that would make me skip MLB The Show 19 is if they removed offline franchise mode.

I agree with this because its exactly what my experience has been all along with MLB The Show. I refer to the "Play like a movie without the ability to stop them" in another thread I posted. It affects all gameplay elements especially on defense with the most noticeable being the tagging system and why there is only one or two home plate tag animation's that the CPU will make.

I would think it would be a high priority to make it more fluid and less movie like considering RTTS is one of the most popular gaming modes. And if you have a Baseball game that plays defense like a movie clip that can't be paused! Then that's just not a realistic representation of playing defense in a Baseball or a Baseball game!

No online franchise, no purchase. ‘18 is the least I’ve ever played The Show. The Show got me to purchase a PS3 and a PS4. And now I don’t even play the game because my favorite mode was removed.

Re: Is there anything that would make you skip MLB The Show 19?

Last year was the first time I have ever skipped The Show, and I have never been tempted to pick it up.

Not enough changes with Franchise mode whatsoever. I feel like I could have bought every 3rd release and only then would I have noticed marked changes.

Maybe there isn't much room for improvement because it's such a good game already, but I likely won't ever be a annual buyer anymore.

I'm in the same boat as last year. Show me some dedication to innovating and improving franchise mode substantially or I skip once again. I'm not exactly sure what I would consider 'substantial' but I think I'll know it when I see it (or don't see it). The wish list has grown so long for a lot of us, that there are many many options for the devs to be working on.

For me it is more a case of what can they do for me to purchase 19. Very little is known so far but unless we see some decent gameplay and even more so franchise additions/changes I'll be skipping The Show this year for the first time since I bought MLB 09 The Show.

If Franchise gets the same amount of attention as it did last year, this will be the first year I skip since I bought a PS3 just for The Show. I have faith they will remember their core.

I’m in the same boat my friend. I still played a ton of MLB The Show vs the computer this year but I didn’t play against my friends online as much since Online Franchise was gone and that was our go-to online mode for the custom rosters. If they don’t bring it back this year I’ll be skipping the game.

If Franchise and overall presentation remain largely the same, I'll wait until a price drop before purchasing. I'm still playing 18 nearly every day and heavily invested in my current franchise.

Re: Is there anything that would make you skip MLB The Show 19?

well for me, im into more classic style rosters in a single offline mode style of play.. Recently there has been a major addiction to the classic rosters of this game done by Baumy. 1995 - 1999. all by himself and for those that dont know they are down right fantastic.

with those plus the rosters i had from other great content creators, i can honestly say for me, there is no roster anyone could make in 19 to make me say oh i really gotta have 19 for that set.

im not a diamond dynasty nor online player. im an offline player that enjoys franchise mode, unfortunately even though we dont have much info on 19, but past games and the way things have been promoted kinda tells me the company really may not be going in that direction of a more single player experience like id like to have, and more towards that diamond dynasty/ultimate card collecting experience/ cash cow that i feel is personally monopolizing the gaming industry in general.

the show 18 for me is a fun great game that gives me enough for me to enjoy my experience. of course i would love all classic stadiums or a expansion mode, or even a stadium creator, but to me that spells playstation 5 not on 4. i have been through the console cycle change since atari 2600 so i see where this is headed and i choose to not be apart of it anymore, i can remember team devs saying it would take a couple years just to transfer uniform and grass templates to a proper size, thats been came and went and where still where we are at with this game in now 2019. "waiting and wishing"

the show is a good game its just not fitting the category that id like it to be, thats not there fault, there trying to advance there product in a way that can make there game more marketable for the future. its not my fault either that i choose not to like the modes that are being given to me to play.

so when it comes to that stand still, i'll choose to keep my money and make do with what i have at this point, i honestly do not care anymore. but im at that point where i'm not gonna spend my money on any product i feel is not meeting the standards i would like to have.

i have 100% made my mind up on that for all these games, not just the show. so to each there own, but most of all whatever your doing with your games just try to have fun and enjoy it.
I stream a variety of video games for relaxation and fun.
