Now i dont know about you guys, but you would NEVER make the big leagues if you cannot catch a simple ball thrown to you.
Yep, that never made since to me either, because 9 times out of 10, in the league a so-called out of position player is still in position and pretty damn good at the position the manager puts him. But, I understand it for a video game, it is something they used for cheese players, that spam situations and I wholeheartedly stand behind the decision. In franchise they should be able to learn and adapt, but online, the situation should be static.

I use manage mode and the challenge for the devs is to balance the AI changes so the game still produces realistic scores. After a dozen or so patches they got mlbts 18 right. Not perfect but it is the best they have done in the series.

The changes sound interesting. In previous editions all infielder were superstars. I doubt they will repeat that mistake. Contact hitters being more valuable is an improvement.

Truth is I won't know until I get the game and play it for awhile in manage mode.

Loved what I heard in this video about the changes to defense and hitting. One thing that really stuck out was that the defense is aware of the speed and abilities of the hitter which they were last year, but this year lets say that Hamilton hits a slow chopper on the infield, it sounds as though that instead of the SS, for example, charging slightly then locking into fielding animation for the ball to arrive, he will continue to charge and meet the ball. Good stuff.

Hitting I was concerned when they mentioned more user skill, but after hearing that its not strictly PCI, but also swing timing and taking pitches, I not as concerned as I was previously. Still anxious to get the game in hand and see what that is all about.

Good stuff and looking forward to the streams tomorrow going more in depth on both of these new additions.

I keep thinking that Mets player is Bartolo "Two Slices" Colon. Not that I think he's still on the Mets, but he was a bit oversized and had his number, so my mind automatically went to him. I was thinking: "Man he's working pretty hard on the bases!"

I enjoyed the transparency in the video. I do feel like I've heard some of these things in previous years, but I like the demonstrations that they showed. It does get me to believe the "1300 animations" talk if you think about something like the diving attribute providing dozens of different ranges for each animation type, etc.

I also see they hid Oracle Park's name in shots completely. Maybe they're still putting the art on top of that haha.

They would been better served saying hey we have been working on defense since 2015 and unfortunately because we have an annual release date, so we can't perfect it, now in 2019 after building on the foundation of each iteration we have gotten close to our goal.

Instead they are pitching this stuff as something new by changing the feature name, instead of saying 2.0 or 1.5.

            The Show 15

            Defense 1.0

Advanced AI logic results in outfielders taking more realistic routes to the ball

Upgraded motion system allows for dynamic speed matching from run to catch to throw

            User controlled cut offs

All new slide and tag system

New situational base covering intelligence allows for new animations to play when a player has time or is in a hurry to get to his base

More than 70 new situational third out fielding animations

The Show16 they improved these and added "out of position" 1.0.Humanity AI introduced fielders know who is on the base path and will act accordingly.

The Show 17 added multi branch animations for throws.

The Show 18 improved upon and added animations to a host of scenarios that wasn't covered by the AI system.

EA for Madden use to call this the 3 year plan.

Noticed in the video that they added Red Schoedienst's number to the wall at Busch Stadium. Nice.

it's sports game it actually isn't all the companies fault. they are asked to release the same game every year.

100% this. How many players have switched their position in the minors, or even after coming to the majors? I completely understand penalizing players being out of position, because Yadier Molina shouldn't be in the outfield playing defense like he's Mike Trout, but there should be some kind of alternative other than 'I moved my Gold Glove caliber 2B to SS, but since he's out of position and doesn't have it listed as a secondary position, he's barely useful'.

As someone else had mentioned, this is implemented to prevent "cheese" in diamond dynasty. It wasn't as bad last year, but the previous year when speed was king guys would play Billy Hamilton and Lou Brock at first just to get the speed cheese in their lineup.

Assuming you're referring to offline, why couldnt you manually edit the player and change their position? I do it all the time in Franchise.

You can definitely edit but it is a lot more challenging and rewarding if you could groom a player through training to be able to play another position. Going in and editing a player and deeming them a second baseman is not that exciting.

Agreed. I'd like to be able to "teach" a player a new position by having them play there in the minors or Spring Training. Have them learn and adapt, or fail.

I'd also like something similar in terms of teaching a pitcher a new pitch.

I chuckle because when Stanton started playing LF last spring for the Yanks he was god awful even on routine fly balls. But he was considered a "pretty good" RFer. He did improve in LF during the regular season, but he likely will never be a "pretty good" LFer.

High heat used to have that. I loved it. Play a kid in minors and he would learn position.

I've always said they should do something similar to what 2K did. Have sliders for each position within the player editor.
