Re: MLB The Show 19 Video - Road to the Show

My player is a 98 overall and still has a 'C' potential. I have been traded numerous times and even have my team straight up refuse to offer me salary arbriation making me a free agent! Despite being a 6+ war player, the contract I were offered were just 6 year $30 million. Completely unrealistic. I am going to be a full actual free agent in my next season so hopefully I get a better contract. Total dollars don't mean much but I want to get it for the realism.

While the features in the video are cool, I want to see features that improve the way teams treat my player. I want potential to increase/decrease according to the player's performance. I don't want to be traded 5 times before my player is 25 years old. If my player is a superstar, I want my team to ask me what players we should acquire. I want to feel important.

Travis Shaw on my team has an OPS above 1. Me, an OPS of around .830. Despite this I get the MVP chants. The reason? Because I am 98 ovr and Shaw is an 80 overall. I want fans to react to the numbers not the rating. I want to be offered a contract based on my performance, not my rating.

RTTS is getting improved year by year and this is great. But we need to see improvements to the fundamentals. Isn't that what baseball is all about?

It's fine with me, as long as I can still adjust my growth to make it similar to last year's caps (and I should be able to as long as I screenshot the '18 archetypes and refer back to that when deciding which stats to raise cap on).

        Good video.
100% agree with this. I liked it much better knowing I couldn't be a 1 in a million phenom and had to actually work to make my character better, not just put points here and there. If I sucked at clutch, I got penalized. Did well against a RHP, I got rewarded.

So you would like to restrict everyone from creating the player they want, no matter how ridiculous, instead of just making those limitations and sticking to them yourself?

It's a single player mode. Their 5'8" first baseman does not affect you or force you to create one.

As long as I don’t end up with an all 99 player just by playing the game naturally, I’m ok with it. Personally, I really enjoyed the realism that the caps added and I’m hoping this change doesn’t ruin that.

If the Show team could see this vid and add this haircut to the game (post release at any time). I would like to at least get it to them. If they can’t ultimately add it, I would understand.

Currently without caps there isn't a way to prevent that however.

                    Thank you, Steve.

Looked at the archetypes shown in the trailer. Looks like The Anomaly will be my go-to Fielder archetype this year (Junior is an example, plus the favored positions are all 5 of the ones I like playing), and at SP, Plain Filthy will be the one I use again.

We'll have to see more on Thursday of course. But if you don't create a 5'8" first baseman then that will eliminate that option. As for the 300 pounder with 99 speed I assume if you don't steal bases and never choose to train speed then it is avoidable as well.

The could raise the cap to 99 but still make it really hard or rare for a power hitting corner infielder to train up their speed. It used to be somewhat that way in the old system. It took far more points to raise speed to 99 for a first baseman than it took to raise it to 99 for a CF.

I think there is a middle ground in there somewhere that system and last years caps.

I don't care if it looks like the PS1.

                        Does it play well?

That second point was especially frustrating for me when I kept dropping my forty year old's health stats but he still never got injured. I had literally one injury during my entire MLB career and that was a two week stint on the DL after being drilled in the head by a line drive.

I do like the idea of earning improvements through play instead of just allocating points wherever you want. It'll be interesting to see how that system plays out without caps.
With one of my RTTS players in MLB the Show 2011 (on PS3) my guy suffered two different Tommy John surgeries in his career. One year he came back during the postseason, was put on the roster, and led his team to a World Series title. It was cool.

So happy to hear max cap is 99 for all attributes now. Refused to play last year due to them forcing us being an average player...as if anyone ever dreams of being mediocre.

Anyways, I'm very interested to know how this will fit in with archetypes? And how progression is...these two factors will decide if I preorder or not.

Exactly, make the starting point realistic but keep the 99 caps for all attributes. If someone wants to cheese and be a 5'5 400 lb 99 everything with green hair and tats all over they can, just turn it to super easy mode. But for people that play realistically, they earn points and progress realistically so their skills match their position and their physical attributes.
