Re: MLB The Show 19 Twitch Stream - Road to the Show (Archive Included)

So I tried this one time but I forgot...

When you send your player back to college, I know that you get older but does the roster file used advance (like sim forward)? Or would the initial 2019 roster be “frozen in time” and they just insert the older you into present day roster?

Again, I did this once but I don’t remember the roster part

So...I guess I'm in the minority here.
Consider:  broadly speaking, what is the POINT of a mode like this?  Suppose I were designing a single-player, sports-themed RPG.  I would want to make it immersive, I would want to make it varied in terms of what the user does and sees, but above all else, I want the user to be emotionally invested in the game's world.
To get that, you need well-developed characters, in a believable milieu.  Great environments are wasted, if the characters in them are paper dolls.  And great characters are wasted, if they're living in a vacuum.
Which is why I think this may turn out to be a genre-defining version of this mode, and hey, wipe those smirks off your faces, people.
We're now getting to see an expansion of the game's world, and we're also being given a supporting cast to actually care about.  How is that bad?
Yes, it adds a layer of complexity.  But in exchange for that, we're getting a way to experience aspects of the sport which are normally unseen; even better, we're now going to have access to better story-crafting tools, enabling us to flesh our characters out like never before.  And they seem to have done that with minimal walling of the narrative, which is no small feat.
I'm not quite to the point of "shut up and take my money NAO" but I'm pretty darn close.  From a design standpoint, I thought this was a walk-off three-run triple that completes the cycle in Game 7 of the LCS.
That said, I know that puts me in the minority, but whatevs.

Looks fine to me, but I like a little extra flash in my games.

Haven’t watched the whole stream yet, but I’m a bit surprised by the negative comments as I really enjoyed the last stream and the Gamestop Monday video.

I haven't watched the stream yet, but as long as the "over the top" new editions that people are complaining about are optional, I don't have a problem with it.

Just like the celebrations, I just don't use the things that I don't like. The 2010 version of me would love those kinds of things, but as I said, as long as it is optional, I'll never mind them adding things that cater to a younger crowd.

I like this post a lot. Even though I am not necessarily an RTTS guy, I can see how these changes could really excite some. That being said, there is one area I think sports games take a hard rap and I don't think its fair but they have brought it upon themselves a bit.

Today's sports games need to be RPG, simulation, fun, exciting, make money and easily pick up and playable. No other type of game needs to be all these things........ever. Look at popular games like GTA-V or PUBG or RDR2 or name it. These games, not only get multiple years to be completed, don't have to be anything but easy to pick up and play and entertaining. There is nothing in real life to compare them to. Honestly if I want to play a game where I am a police officer how realistic do I want it? I don't want to sit in a car for an 8 hours shift and have to go talk to Joe because he is pissed off that his friend Steve won't return his lawnmower, then next I am writing a ticket because Sally can't stay off her bloody I-phone. Nobody wants these games. My police game needs to have snipers and hostages and all that other glamorized garbage.

Could you imagine playing PUBG and when you were shot you died, every time, or you didn't have the use of your arm because it was shot and you have no feeling in your fingers. Nobody would buy it. Plus I get to dress up my guy to look like whatever I want, but this isn't an RPG so I really have no investment in him other than his outer appearance.

Sports games get none of this leeway. They have to have an RPG mode that really makes me feel like I know this character. What is he about? Who is he? Then when I get on the field I want it to resemble, exactly, real life. Baseball games are 3 hours and even when you go to a live game how many people give 2 rats about the mental game between a pitcher and a batter? How many are there as a night out or just to have fun? Then to entertain the masses you need quick hits of fun and also people want something out of their time. That is where cards and mini games come in.

So here you have 1 game trying to be 5 different games and everybody ragging on them for doing none of it well. What do we expect?? They have 1 year to improve every aspect of something that is going to be different for everyone.

All that said, here is my 2 cents. If there is something about this game that you like, buy the game. If you don't like anything about this game then don't buy it, but please quit coming on here and whining and complaining about why this is the worst game ever made and how nobody on the developing team cares about you because quite frankly...................they don't have to, and that is okay.

Small annoyance. International players don't get drafted. They get signed as International free agents. I doubt that would ever get into the mode though.

You may as well stop watching then. Two out the next three streams are about Diamond Dynasty and they reveal DD cards every stream.

my biggest issue with the streams is sometimes it feels like they are talking to us like we are 8 years old. pointing out things like 'he has 9 home runs it is early in the season so that means he is off to a hot start'

That tells you right there it is aimed at casual baseball fans and games for the DD stuff.
That is why I couldn't finish it. Felt as if they were talking to a bunch of toddler. Just don't think any preparations or thought went into this stream...and this a stream about one of the key areas they actually still put some work in.

I'm happy with the 99 max caps and additions to Rtts but can't help but feel this development team is just completely losing touch with what their fanbase actually want.

I wasn't going to preorder the game due to it getting so stale...then when I heard they actually listened to the community and changed the max caps to 99 and the other Rtts additions I was very much intrigued and on the brink of preordering. Thought this stream would put me over the edge...it just poured a massive bucket of ice water on any hype I had.

These streams have been around for a number of years now. They have never been great...ever! Given how lack luster the series been since hitting next gen, it is not surprising the people who present the game are lack luster as well.

I hate some of the new hr animations. They are over the top, especially the funny walk.

Hope they are optional or can be switched off. Didn't listen to the stream so they may have answered that, but it's really not my cup of tea.
