Re: MLB 19: First Impressions Thread (IMPRESSIONS ONLY)

I had some major framerate issues with '16. I posted here several times, and for the most part it seemed like I was one of the few that was going through that. It really killed '16 for me. Sure I played it, but it was rough. '17 and '18 were a much cleaner experience for me. So I'm hoping I don't experience any framerate issues with '19 that some of you are seeing. I play on a Pro, with a real nice 4K TV. I'll post again when I get home and get to play a few games.

For those experiencing framerate issues, can you describe examples of gameplay and/or ballparks that you're seeing the problem? I'll try to dive into the same scenarios and report my experience.

Glad to read a lot of positive reaction re:the gameplay. For me, that's the most important thing. Little improvement to franchise definitely stinks for us franchise-heavy players...but as long as the game plays smooth and great that's what I hope for the most.

The Show '19 releases, and 2 days later we have real baseball back as well. Awesome time! Can't wait to be at the G Spot on 4/4, watching Eloy smash some baseballs.

With that said, they do show off how beautiful this game is and have some really cool camera angles.

Best option IMO is batting only and High leverage for frequency

Pretty solid gameplay thus far on hall of fame hitting and pitching. Improved upon 18's already great offline gameplay. Only adjusted a few sliders so far, the AI's pitcher strike throwing frequency and the AI foul ball hitting frequency, and fielder reaction speed.

My one gripe is the AI's inability to score.

They should have made the animations play, then hit x to skip them, then get back to the game. But having them play in real time is a no go for me.

Just go batting only for pre pitch cameras and high Leverage situations so you get some other flavor of the broadcast presentation.

I also play that way and will not have them on while I pitch.

SDS was spot on it giving us multiple options to have them instead of force feeding them with no toggles and options.

          Kudos on that!!!

The framerate issues have to be peoples tv's. I notice that framerate hitch at minute maid park last year too. But when I switched tv's it was gone and smooth as butter.

            Just a heads up.

Yes! I wish they would bring back more options that were taken out. No red halo around the ball in RTTS, allowing us to play/watch all defensive balls in play only (RTTS)... just to name a few.

Only got 1 game in so far, but wow. They have truly nailed presentation and ballpark atmosphere this year. Amazing. The crowd is really into the game and gets loud , they react very well. The crowd combined with the new PA announcer really make the ballpark feel alive and real. The Show might now have the best stadium atmosphere in all of sports gaming. Enjoying the presentation improvements.

19 definitely has a different feel then 18 that will take more time to adjust too. Offense feels a lot less HR or bust this year.

Played an exhibition game as the Yankees against the Rays. Paxton vs Morton. Default Legend. Won 6-1 without a single HR. Only HR of the game was a laser solo shot by Brandon Lowe. Drove in a run with Gardner by slicing one down the 1B line. Did the same driving in 2 with LeMahieu. Hit one to the track with Voit over the OF’s head for a ground rule double. A bloop single from Torres. Double against the shift with Stanton.

Contact hitting is back and I love it so far. Think I would’ve had at least 1 HR if my timing was right. Got some fastballs blown by me. Gotta knock off some rust I think.

Tampa had 9 hits on me. Slightly concerned about how aggressive they were with stealing. Kiermaier reached base 4 times and ran on me every single time. He succeeded twice and got caught twice. Figured maybe he just had a very high BR aggression rating but no. Stealing 51 and BR AGG 55. Something to watch for, but won’t judge it yet. Might be a fluke.

Mark Derosa gives a scouting report on Orioles starter Nate Karns, talking about his 3 pitch repertoire.

He has 4 pitches in the game (just like IRL). Also showed his 2017 stats as last seasons.

Power and contact hitting both seem to work this year. The last several years it didn't seem to have an effect at all. I haven't hit a home run yet, but the CPU have hit several in the games I played. I find the PS2 era looking hair on the players and fans heads to be annoying. It kills my immersion because it so stiff looking, just stands out. They really need to work on the hair textures. They also need to work on the variety of faces in the crowd. Still seeing the same 3 faces standing side by side by side when they pan to the crowd.

I do like there are more bobbled catches. I had to turn some of that camera panning features off though. I find it highly annoying. I get it, it is a new feature, but they overdosed on it, was happening way too much. That purple sky when it goes from evening to night, is just weird and odd looking to me. Over all I like the game, the variety of what can happen in the outfield and infield make it interesting. Nothing is a given.

For what it’s worth most 4 K TVs have a better refresh rate at 4k than they do at 1080p. This is the case for my Sony Bravia Xbr900f. Game played choppy on fast and plays much better on balanced with hdr on.

I dunno whether to pull the trigger . Reviews seem all over the place. Some say it’s the same game as 18 and other say it’s better gameplay and refined

It’s pretty much the same game. You can say that about most sports games generally...

They need to speed that up, though. EA has it about right in Madden. This one feels way too long.

Not happy extra legends were moved into the 4th slot with regular free agents. As a roster tweaker, this is as much of an inconvenient nuisance as last years single A players not showing in the player movement screen
