The Cardinals swept the Giants in their series in St.Louis and have now won 8 straight games and are atop the wildcard standings. The Cardinals are currently 3 1/2 games behind the Pirates for the Central division.
The Cardinals did it again with both their bats and their pitching. Ozzie Albies continues to be on fire as he recorded 6 hits in 10 at bats during the series including 3 doubles and a triple. He also drove in 4 runs. Patrick Wisdom continues to push his way towards a second straight NL MVP. He went 5 for 8 in the series with 2 homeruns and 5 RBI's.
The Cardinals pitching staff only allowed 5 runs over the series and all of those by the starters. The bullpen pitched 8 1/3 innings allowing zero runs and only giving up 2 hits. They recorded 14 strikeouts over those 8 innings as a unit.
The only downside was that Brendan McKay has cooled off. He only record a single hit in the series during 7 at-bats (he sit out Sunday for a scheduled day off)
The Cardinals will get right back to work as they host the surging Reds for a 3 game series to close out July. The Reds have won 5 straight themselves and 9 of their last 10.
