MLB THE SHOW 19 - 2018 REGULAR SEASON

So the 2017 season being played with MLBTS 18 has been postponed indefinitely, and although not canceled, probably will not be resumed. But do not fret REDS fans, as Spring Training of the 2018 season on MLBTS 19 has just begun.

As some of our favorite players have retired like SP Bronson Arroyo and others have just seemed to disappear into the cornfields like OF Drew Stubbs and OF Chris Heisey, most of our 2017 roster has returned.

The RED'S front office was busy during the 2017 / 18 off season with some trades...

CIN SP Hunter Greene was traded to LAD for SP Walker Buehler...Hunter Greene was Cincinnatti's 1st Round Draft Pick last year in 2017, a highly prized top pitching prospect, so any trade involving him would come as a major shocker to RED'S fans.

While taking in his first Winter Meeting at Walt Disney World in Orlando, owner Ed Eads Troke and his trusty and always funny GM Sean Casey were approached by the Dodger's with an intriguing proposal. After much thought and plenty of drinks, the two top REDS execs decided it was a good trade.

As for the players, it brings each one closer to home. Greene is a Las Angeles native, while Buehler a Lexington, KY boy, who grew up a REDS fan. Welcome home and Good Luck Ferris!

The REDS were busy at the meetings, as they also traded away top OF prospect Taylor Trammell to Tampa Bay for 2017 1st Rounder SP / 1B Brendan McKay. Again, both players get a little bit closer to home, Trammell a Georgia native and McKay being from Pennsylvania.

The REDS are loading up again on two way players. Last year they acquired SP Shohei Ohtani and 3B Matt Davidson, while already having RP Michael Lorenzen.

Speaking of SP Shohei Ohtani, Ohtani progressed real well during the last year post Tommy John's surgery. He is again in RED'S Spring Training camp and hopes to make his MLB debut this year. The REDS are being real cautious with his work load but see no problems with his recovery.

The REDS also traded RP David Hernandez and LF Adam Walker to SEA for prospect 1B Evan White, White was born in Columbus, OH and played college ball at Kentucky. The REDS also traded for pitching prospects BOS SP Travis Lakins and PIT SP J.T. Brubaker, both also from Ohio and about an hours drive form Cincinnati.

Rumors are that the REDS were in talks with MIA regarding UT Derek Dietrich as well. But no trade yet.

The REDS open up Spring Training at home as the away team as the play their ballpark roommates the Cleveland Indians.

MLB THE SHOW 19 - 2018 REGULAR SEASON

The REDS were not only busy at the Winter Meeting, but also busy overhauling their coaching staff. The REDS did not offer Manager Bryan Price a new contract at seasons end, which is not really a big surprise. But, they did not resign any of their coaches or simply fired them.

The REDS hired long time REDS fan favorite Aaron Boone. Boone was also being considered by the Yankees as well. Boone liked what owner Mr. Troke and GM Sean Casey put forward and also allowed him to hire his own coaching staff.

Not one coach has any MLB experience but come with a lot of knowledge of the game. Some are former college coaches or managers, other have a background as analysts. This fresh approach may help as the REDS have a lot of young players coming up through the ranks.

            Manager----------Aaron Boone
            Hitting Coach-----Edwin Howard
            Pitching Coach----Al Amin
            1ST Base Coach--Franklin Driscoll
            3RD Base Coach--Will Gallagher

Nothing bad. I have never cared for MLBTS 18. It feels choppy. I quit playing it and went back to MLBTS 17 until MLBTS 19 came out.

The only thing I like about it, is that it is Aaron Boone's debut year as manager for the Yanks.

So I steal him and he makes his start as a RED'S manager.

Then my OCD kicks in when I want REDS rookies from MLBTS 17 without any service time, like they have in MLBTS 18. So I decided to SIM a clone version of MLBTS 17 season (same identical roster) but on ROSTER CONTROL, keeping all the rookies in the Minors. Then I start up a carry over in MLBTS 18 from 17 and import all the rookies into a MLBTS 18 roster, effectively removing their REAL LIFE playing time. It is like they never played in the BIGS during the 17 season.

Then I start up the beginning of the 18 season from MLBTS18 in MLBTS 19.

IT took my the whole day to get the rosters transfered / imported.

I like how MLBTS 19 plays vs 18.

                Damn OCD.

Eventually my OCD will kick in and I will continue playing the 17 season on MLBTS 17. Still like using Arroyo, Stubbs and Heisey. Just wanted to get to the current game MLBTS 19. I spent / wasted time playing Diamond Dynasty for the first 6 programs before I got burned out.

I've hit a little bit of a wall. Barely played over Thanksgiving. I think part of it is I started the 2020 season with a 22-3 record, even though most of my stats are pretty realistic. So in an attempt to kickstart my franchise, I'm going back to default sliders ... but taking it up to HOF.

MLB THE SHOW 19 - 2018 SPRING TRAINING

SPRING TRAINING - GAME 1 at CLE

CIN SP Anthony DeSclafani vs CLE SP Corey Kluber

The REDS are in Arizona as Spring Training has started. The REDS have a new manager this year, Aaron Boone, and they are hoping for some Boone Magic this year.

The REDS started Spring Training by playing the Cleveland Indians. SP DeSclafani had a bit of a rough start by giving up 2 ER in 3 INNINGS. CLE's SP Kluber only allowed 1 ER in his 3 INNINGS.

Going into the 4TH the score was 2-1 in favor of CLE, then SP Finnegan came in and allowed CLE to score 2 more ERs. With the plan to have Finnegan pitch 2 INNINGS in relief, Boone let him take the mound in the 5th. Finnegan allowed 2 more ERs to score and CIN trailed CLE 2-6.

Then things just got crazy, into the top of the 8TH the score still 2-6, the
REDS erupted for 5 RUNS and took a 7-6 lead. RP Tony Cingrani came in the bottom of the 8TH and, of course, allowed the Indians to tie it 7-7.

Neither team would score in the 9TH and in the first ST game of the season we would go into extra innings. The REDS would push two across Home Plate in the 10TH to go up 9-7. Always dependable CP Jonathan Broxton would pitch a scoreless bottom and earn a SAVE. RP J.J. Hoover would get a WIN for his work in the 9TH.

The REDS would get 15 HITS in this one, that is a good thing as the offense seems to struggle sometimes on ALL-STAR batting. But, always a BUT, REDS pitching also allowed 15 HITS, that is not good, as the REDS are depending on strong pitching if they want to have any chance contending this year.

But, again with the BUTS, a WIN is a WIN, and it is Manager Aaron Boone's first Spring Training WIN.

                      REDS SPRING TRAINING RECORD: 1 - 0

Cardinals conclude April 10 games below .500

The Cardinals struggles in the 2024 season are real as they finished the first full month of the season at 12-22 and a whopping 10 games behind the Reds in the NL Central Division.

While some will want to point to injuries, and the Cardinals have had their share, the reason for the poor start is the fact that the Cardinals are just flat out playing bad baseball. Pitching, offense, defense, base running has all been responsible for this horrible start to a season full of promise of returning to the World Series.

The Cardinals have endured losing streaks of 5 games, 7 games, and are currently on a 4 game losing streak as the calendar flips to May. Yes having Harrison Bader (returns in June), C.J. McElroy (returns in June), Juan Fabregas (out for season), Jack Flaherty (returns in July), Carlos Martinez (back in rotation), and Zack Burdi (back in bullpen) all see time on the IL is a blow, the Cardinals still have the talent to have a better winning percentage than 0.353 thru 34 games.

This club just seems to find ways to lose games. Whether its not hitting, starting pitching poor, bullpen blowups, poor defense, or dumb baserunning, this team has used all of these multiple times and often multiple problems in a single game to find ways to lose.

The answer? I'm not sure there is one. Is there a trade that can be made? A callup? A coaching change? I don't think any of this will change anything, because its not one aspect of the roster that is to blame. Its the whole roster.

Certainly being 10 games back thru 34 games is rough, but its not like the season is lost. There is plenty of time for this team to get hot and get back into contention, but you have to wonder when does it start? Another month like April and the season may be lost, until guys return from the IL. What do the Cardinals do to survive the next 30-40 days and not find themselves further back?

It's only May but it may very well be now or never for the Cardinals to start winning. 18-20 wins this month would do wonders. So would getting back to .500. So would being less than 10 games out of first by month's end.

Hang on Cardinals fans....the ship is troubled waters. Can this team weather the storm, or will they sink this early into their journey? Guess we'll know in 31 days.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

In the final days of May we find ourselves at 39-16 and on top of the AL East by 2.5 games over Boston. In our latest series, we took 2 of 3 from Boston, split a 2 game set with the Rockies, swept the White Sox in 4, and most recently dropped 2 of 3 to the Rays at Yankee Stadium.

We have our first major injury of 2020...and it was done with intent by the Rays. There was some drama earlier in the series as they plunked one of ours after a Yankee HR and we followed by plunking one of there’s. But things truly erupted in the series finale. With us up 6-0 in the 6th, Rays RP Jose De Leon fired a fastball into the arm of Edwin Encarnacion. It looked serious, and we later found out it was fractured. Out 1-2 months. Edwin homered in his prior at bat.

And the Yankees were not going to let this go. After 6 shutout innings, Montgomery was expected to be pulled, but instead came back out just to drill Rays OF Avisail Garcia. After shouting from both dugouts and warning from the umpires, he would then be pulled and tip his cap as he walked off to a standing O from the crowd. And it didn’t end there. With 2 outs in the 9th, Andrew Miller would hit another Rays batter. The umpires somehow maintained order as Miller and the batter had some words before Miller was thrown out, with more yelling from both benches. Manager Aaron Boone was seen waving it off with a smile in the dugout, seemingly not bothered by Miller’s actions. (Yes that last part isn’t extra, it really happened in game. Loved it.)

So, there you have it. These two sides won’t meet again until late July and it’s probably for the best. To close out May, we have 4 more home games vs the 29-25 KC Royals. Will recap more later once June is here.

Other News: Mookie Betts fractures shin, out 1-2 months.
A big blow to the Red Sox as they hope to keep pace with the rival Yankees. The real core piece of their lineup remains fully healthy though, JDM. JDM has been a machine at the plate this year, with already 20 HR’s and 64 RBI’s. A line of 327/405/677/ and a 1.082 OPS.

Game 3 of the NLDS is going live right now.

Allan Draper makes his first ever Postseason Start in a game where the Cards can clinch the series and move on to the NLCS.

I just reached the trade "prep" phase of my season in mid-July with the Giant's at 47-46 now 6 gb of the wild card and 21 gb in the division. Any advice for a rookie GM on signing players to extensions?
