That is wrong, most care about FPS and would call out the devs if it was Madden NBA2K or NHL....The show? No chance....Teflon SCEA here in OS

I’m going back to 18 to see if there was a difference

So I’m not debunking anything or adding fuel to any fire, but I must say this.

I’ve recently moved across country and my 65” Samsung UHD 4K that I had is being shipped when we close on our new house in May. It’s what I last played MLB 18 smoothly on and what I was having issues with in 19 when I first played a few games before I left.

Fast forward to this week, where I’m staying in an apartment and my mom lent us an old 37” Vizio she had in a spare bedroom at her place. Played 2 games on that and it’s silky smooth.

I have the PS4 pro and I work in video for sports, so I know the display will not change the fact that there would be dropped or replicated frames, however something is afoot here. I won’t be able to tell more until I have my screen back and can mess with it more, but it was nearly unplayable in the handful of hours I spent playing before I moved.

Perhaps there is a setting in modern TV’s that impacts the display, not the frame rate, but just in the way the game hitches or lags with the display. I’ll have to really look into it. But it might explain why some pepople really aren’t noticing any issues and others are struggling mightily.

Ya it’s something that needs to be sorted out for sure.

I'm back after a long hiatus from OS - I recently inherited a PS4 and got all set up primarily just to play The Show 19. Turns out I'm obsessed instead with FIFA 19, and The Show 19 - while it has lots of appealing things about it - has yet to grab my attention.

So I was both relieved and disappointed when I logged in here and saw the lengthy thread on framerate. Relieved because it confirmed something that seemed obvious to me, but disappointed in the sense that it's going to be a continued problem that clearly bothers a lot of users.

It was really quite shocking to me because the smoothness of the swing animation, in particular was always a calling card of the MLB The Show series. I remember playing an early PS2 version of the Show at a Target store, circa 2007. I couldn't believe how the pitches really popped out of the pitches hand, and how quickly the bat responded to a swing command.

Likewise, I was without a current gen console for several years, but had a PS Vita I would play on lunch breaks, etc. The Show 12 on PS Vita was an outstanding game. It ran extremely smoothly, felt realistically and challenged me. I actually played through 2.5 full 162-game seasons in Franchise because I liked it that much.

The Show 19 on PS4...I don't know, it's kind of a mess. The transitions from the batter's box to a ball in play are mostly terrible. The framerate with chug and hang, and then the ball sometimes appears in a different part of the park. I thought maybe the game was optimized for PS4 Pro (and mine is a launch console), but that still wouldn't be an excuse.

For the most part, the stuttering doesn't fundamentally ruin the batter/pitcher interaction. I think it really depends on the camera being used, however. I pitch from the CF camera, and it seems considerably worse on that angle versus the catcher view. I may need to try other camera angles, and may just go back to batting and pitching from the same camera.

Well, there sort of is. Every technology handles motion differently. For examples, LCD technology has motion blur. This may be helpful for some people's framerate issues. Even my own videos that I watch on YouTube appear to be less of a nuisance on my laptop than when I'm playing the game, because my laptop has an LCD screen. You're also getting less sharp images in fast motion with motion blur. Plasma technology doesn't have motion blur, so there could be a difference there.

But that's just a perception thing. As you said and as is true, the framerate is still the framerate.

They had to. I'm just playing 18. Started a season with the A's and just gonna roll with it. If they can somehow optimize it then I'm back on board with 19.
