    PS5 Expectations

With it sounding like the PS5 will be released at some point in 2020 we likely have one more version of the show to be released on the PS4. I have been trying to convince myself the lack of improvements/fixes to franchise mode are because SDS is waiting to rebuild the mode on the PS5.

But in looking back at the mode between the PS3 and PS4 it seems like the 2019 version is still the same build from the 2013 version which was the last release on the PS3. The budgets, drafting, scouting and training are still basically the same. With the only big addition being carryover saves. Hopefully this is not the case going forward. What are your expectations for improvements on the PS5?

    Re: PS5 Expectations

First and foremost, I'm hoping for online franchise mode to be fixed and relaunched for the Ps5. Even with all the bugs and stuff that was wrong with OF, I still really had a blast playing with a buddy of mine.

I just truly hope they put more effort into making franchise mode altogether a better experience. I know it's not their main money maker, but it is what gets my $60 every year.

with 95+ million PS4s sold (easily 100+ million by the end of 2019), there will be way more than 1 more version of MLB released on the platform.

I'm hoping for a complete rebuild. No "feature parity" or anything like that. Time to build a new engine from the ground up.

This actually means redoing every animation, stadium, line of dialogue, etc.

Which is just too damn bad, if that's the case.

I'm not saying The Show '19 feels like a PS2 game, but it still has remnants that date back from MLB 2005. I think it's built from the same foundation, at least. That was fifteen years ago, for those who didn't do the math on that.

                Re: PS5 Expectations

Unless PS5 is just the same PS4 operating system with better hardware (which is entirely possible this next generation) odds are we won't see much in the way of improvements beyond the graphical variety.

I suspect engine limitations are also the bigger problem, but it is completely unrealistic to expect the team to pump out a new game on a new engine in a one year cycle and expect anything but a major regression in features. That's la la land wish upon a unicorn unrealistic.

Also there are plenty of improvements that could have been made to franchise over the course of its years on the PS4, but haven't. It's just not where the team's focus is, at all, and I doubt that a new console is going to change that.

Fact of the matter is, sports video games are painted into a corner. They both need to ditch the one year development cycle and can't at the same time, it's financial suicide.

I completely agree, but also agree with the poster who said it’ll never happen. I mean I don’t even want to start my franchise over because of all the work I did on custom deliveries & stances and gear and whatnot, imagine writing this game again from nothing. 🤣
                  Just one man’s opinion.
I don’t actually care about any of this.

My inkling would be that the cycle would have started much sooner than that. 18-24 months at least would of course be preferred, even if it means the last year on PS4 is simply a "roster update" in comparison to normal.

All I ask for MLB The show on PS5 is players wearing their team Unis in the all star game.

So true. And yet, despite this limitation - knowing they cannot rebuild the engine - they allow major legacy issues to persist year after year...cpu bullpen management, lineup issues, injury frequency, playoff pitcher rotation, etc...

There is the real frustration, priorities are driven by their failed negative feedback loop which tells them people are becoming less interested in franchise because they prefer other modes, but it's likely that franchise is faltering and losing players because these issues persist.

There exists no data to indicate how many people will play franchise mode if they made it a top priority. That's the wisdom of Steve Jobs...you don't direct your resources to something you know the customer is using as a substitute...real innovation finds out how to give them what they really want.

I just don't see them doing this, anymore.

I would be happy to just have the game run smoothly. Not a technical person atall but would love to see no shutters or hitches etc on the new system

Hopefully the PS5 will be as capable as my PC was 5 years ago. It's time to close the gap.

well i think the ps5 will be when new player models enter the game. and with new player models comes new animations. its probably why new player models havent arrived yet, is because with new models comes completely new animation set.
