It is most likely not a good thing, but it has a better chance of being good than what we currently have...convoluted I know.

Call it rhetoric if you want, that won't make it any less true. Development focus is where the most revenue is which is DD, and expanding the market isnt going to change that. It could potentially even make it worse since now the part if the market like us here at OS who want more of the sim experience will be even more diluted.

That being said, sds hasn't shown anything in the last few years to make us think we matter anyway, on a single console. Maybe the additional revenue allows them to expand the team and throw the OS crowd a bone. It's a long shot, but imo there is a better chance than the status quo.

I hope with this news that this leads to previous XBOX exclusive games being available on the PS4 and other systems. I know I'd love to play Forza and hopefully this comes to Sony at some point. If we can get the companies working together to make gaming better for EVERYONE regardless of the system then it's a win win. Also with MLB The Show being available on other platforms, hope we can download any roster, sliders, settings, etc regardless of the system it was uploaded on. If someone has a good roster or sliders on the PS4, an XBOX user can download that-and vice versa.
That is why I bought the Playstation. MLB the Show is the only console game I play.

I think there are two reasons for the expansion to other consoles. First for San Diego Studios it will mean of course more revenue. However, I believe MLB was pushing for this as getting more people playing baseball games on consoles has to help keep or increase interest in the sport.

The ONLY good thing that came come out of this is a PC release.

Has a PC release been confirmed or a play anywhere situation for MS?

Please come to PC. I will never have a reason to buy a console ever again. Imagine the mods, the rosters being easier, etc, etc. It will be glorious!

Pretty selfish viewpoint. The only good thing to come out is the thousands of people that haven't been able to play the game will be able to

I never thought I’d see the day, but this is excellent news

I’d love a “play anywhere” Xbox version that covered the PC as well as thankfully that’s finally the way things are going with Xbox Game Pass, which is a fantastic service, by the way.

A Switch edition would be a welcome treat as well.

I’ve been playing The Show since ‘06 and it’s always felt to me like Sony’s personal love letter to the sport. This series has been going strong since its inception (and even before it was The Show), so I think it’s safe to say that this is arguably the most consistent sports franchise of all time, which is quite impressive. Madden had a hell of a run till about 2012, but lost it’s way after that, imo, and now it’s basically a bad joke. Meanwhile, The Show hasn’t really skipped a beat and this latest development should only serve to bolster the series even further.

Great news for people across all platforms! However, I do not see this turning into a “more money equals better game” type of scenario.

As a baseball fan, I think that this was a smart move by the MLB. I have to think that they pushed the sides together as the only major sport with a game exclusive to a single console. Baseball is dying (literally - as the fan base continues aging). Video games are a terrific way to market your sport to younger populations (as evidenced by the rise in popularity of the NBA in younger markets despite the rapid decline in game quality - how much of that was driven by the little kiddies playing MyPlayer on 2k?). Expanding the reach of the game to a larger fan base was a smart move (and forget about XBox for a second - the Switch audience is massive and is likely to grow with a legit sports game in its collection).

As a fan of this series, I'm nervous about this move from a gameplay standpoint. It's going to add a groundswell of very crappy players who are going to moan and groan about things like "RNG" and "skill gap" (i.e. every excuse they can think of to blame game/ratings instead of practicing and getting better - it's bad enough now). I'm very worried about just how well the devs will be able to balance things to be accessible for the newbies while staying true to the core audience (and to the sport itself). They are going to need to do a bang-up job with onboarding.

Now, from a mode standpoint, I'm actually less worried. RTTS is the most popular mode and it might very well be the best career mode out there (though I could see the team eventually expanding to some sort of online experience for RTTS). The kiddies love player career modes and will eat it up. DD is easily the best card mode out there and it's obviously going to be a big draw (while getting the usual minor tweaks each year). Here's the thing about franchise mode - they're going to HAVE to sell it to a new audience. It's a very solid mode now (far better than many in here will admit - though, yes, I fully agree we need enhancements) but I think they're going to HAVE to do a fair bit more to really draw in the more hardcore baseball fans that didn't have a PS4.

It's certainly a surprising development....who knows where this takes us all.....

Well, this is surprising news, but I'll take it! Being able to play The Show on the Switch is huge, as I can go back to my PS3-Vita days of playing on TV and on the go.

Let's just hope carryover saves continue.

With this news, I'm definitely waiting on a big sale to get MLB The Show 20, and just keep playing 19 until I'm ready to move my franchise save over, in preparation for 21.

this is the best thing to happen to the Show since carry-over saves. welcome to the big time, SDS. I look forward to news of this team doubling in size of developers and such. sure, the casual fanbase that loves stuff like DD is going to grow, but so should franchise mode lovers base increase too.

and does this mean Halo is closer to being on PlayStation? lol
probably not, but I wouldn't 100% rule it out either

I hope you are right on the bigger franchise base means a better product, but I have yet to see a game ever improve due to the player base if it cannot be monitized.
