Imagine a more expressive game commentary!

If MLBTS could deliver in game commentary lines even 1/10th as expressive and emotional as this, it would be so much more fun to play with commentary on.

(Currently I leave game sounds on mute 100 percent of the time)

I just wish it didn't sound so much like they are reading a script that was written by someone else. Let the broadcasters react naturally to actual footage and use that. Let them come up with their own analysis on plays and players instead of having to read something written by someone who doesn't do that for a living. Some of the lines in this games commentary are so bad and just don't sound like something a real broadcaster would say.

Re: Imagine a more expressive game commentary!

I've said a couple of things over and over that they should do, especially if the announcers they use actually call games:

        1) Pull a **** load of actual audio that they have actually done from real broadcasts, and ask them to reenact them. Word for word, emotion for emotion.

        2) Work more "madlibs" commentary into their game for fresher sound. Not just for the player name, number of outs, and score, but also for other adjectives, verbs, etc.

        3) Coming off KnightTemplar's good point, reduce the amount of words in each line. Not everything needs to be overly elaborate. I know that's funny coming from me and my posts that I make, but it is okay for Matty V. to have a called strike go by where he simply says "Oh and one," rather than saying: "And he watches as that fastball just barely nicks the outside corner of the plate for the first pitch of the at-bat for a count of no balls and one strike."

It's exactly what I do. I turn the commentary off and imagine a more accurate and dynamic commentary on my head as I play the game.

I rarely play with commentary on but when I do one of the the things I dislike is when talking about a specific player, they overuse the generic ''this player'' or ''this pitcher'' or ''this guy'', use the player's name more, sir, please & thank-you.

Let's not forget, Matty V CAN be emotional and excited when calling games!

This was literally the first thing I found when searching on YouTube for Matt Vasgersian calling MLB games.

But there's obviously such a major disconnect in that emotion from what we hear in the game year over year. Very apparent that sitting three men in a booth to record lines, does NOT in any way allow them to be themselves.

This right here.....LET THE GAME BREATHE!!! (and honestly, most TV broadcasts are probably worse these days - especially the national ones)

I'd really love a more radio broadcast approach in MLB: TS - I was spoiled growing up with Marty Brennaman and his Reds broadcasts....he (and Joe Nuxhall) were SO good...they understood that the most important part of the broadcast was in helping you feel like you were there by taking in the ambiance.

                "The 1-0, and it's a called strike, 1-1"

(Pause for 3 seconds while you hear the crowd react in the background)

                "The pitcher sets.............and throws..............."

(no commentary as you hear the pitch hit the glove - umpire makes no strike call - implying it's a ball)

                "And here comes the 2-1....."

Between batters, you get a little more drawn out commentary....and sometimes it spills into the first pitch of the AB. But you never mind it because they get back into the prior cadence of a more methodical call of the game.

This is a catch22 for me, because I pretty much despise everything that comes out of the broadcast booth, but I do love when they bring up a previous seasons stats, especially if it's a team that I haven't faced this season, or a player that flew under my radar that had a solid season last year.

They also act like my girl at a ball game, every flyball gets a "homerun" reaction, especially if they are outs that the OF has to move for...

Act like you've been there before boys!

Lost art. It's never coming back in real life, so its certainly not going to be replicated in the "only the here and now matters" video games.

Lol.....I've actually done this. With all the great SOS it really helps the atmosphere. I just don't know if commentary will ever sound natural, how could it?

You know the biggest problem with expanding it?? it gets to repeatative. yes the story line for players was good at first. but hearing it after the 50th time he comes out to bat. on the first week of the season just makes my eyes roll.

and Matt just sounds so boring on the game compared to how he really sounds on tv. they need a change will never happen though. there is no excitement. or dynamic range in a close game or a playoff game..

a game in September is no different in game 7 of a world series. this is really where the problem really is with commentary with all sports games. I don';t think it could ever be fixed without years of work and updated weekly.

imagine if this came out on PC not only could we mod rosters and graphics, we could insert our own commentary. imagine the fun in that

Yeah, even my fantasy video on The Show with 2K commentary was displaying moments that would've gotten repetitive by the third inning.

The hope is that someday they design the right algorithm that is like Siri on steroids, where they have syllables and intonation dictate the words that are stated. This would be a computational linguistics nightmare, but one could dream.

Anyway, my point is that there will likely be a story in next year's game regarding Pete Alonso's single-season rookie HR record. What I'd prefer is if they had some dialogue in the game that was ready to talk about that for any player who obtains it.

Of course, given the state the game is in with DD probably being the main focus, I'm not sure how much commentary is focused toward franchise progression anyway.

It's not just that. I know everyone points to his walk-off home run yells, but just his natural conversation.

And not only that-that, but this game also just mixes the audio a little too warm compared to that of a real baseball game broadcast, where treble is amped up a lot more.

As long as they don't mix it like a Sunday Night Baseball broadcast though, I'm not going to bitch too much.

I was actually wondering if people really do this. Is there a game where people mod the game commentary, or put their own in? If so, I'd love to see a YouTube video on that.

I certainly do hope this game makes it on PC when they expand to other consoles, but I'm not going to hold my breath.
