Re: ? The SHOW 20 - Top Rated Player ?
I know Trout is the easy answer and did just win the AL MVP, but 2017 and 2019, from a pure numbers standpoint weren't even his top 5 seasons, so there are signs of slippage if you look deep enough. of course, 99% of MLB would kill for his ‘‘down’’ seasons lolOSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23

Mike Trout. Any other answer is wrong.

The obvious answer is Mike Trout so you should ask for #2. Which I would say might be Gerrit Cole even though I hate the Yankees.

Agreed on both counts...it's an odd list because he just threw on the guys from last season's WAR leaderboard, forgetting that having a high WAR for one season doesn't mean you're suddenly a great player. There's too much statistical variance in baseball to draw any stat-to-skill correlations based on one season of data (which is why SDS has used 3 seasons of data for the launch ratings).
Lynn, Semien, and Minor all doubled (or nearly doubled) their single season career high in WAR last season - that's called a career year....not a measure of how good a player is (or how they should be rated). At best, these guys are in the 80-82 OVR range and the only one likely to maintain even some of those gains is Semien (Lynn/Minor both over 30).Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

I wonder how many 99s they give out this year. I think Trout and Cole will be no brainers. Not sure there’s a good enough argument for anybody else off the top of my head.
