Re: MLB The Show 20 Trailer - Gameplay Engine & AI Updates
Well clearly it's not mimicking barrels exactly now as no groundball can ever be considered one, so I'll have to walk that speculation back a bit. But it doesn't mean that the system isn't modeled after the kind of results that barrel-type contact produces.
Also....I would be VERY surprised if every "perfect grounder" is an automatic hit. I would think that they'd have the lowest base hit chance out of the perfect-perfect trio. Perfect Flyballs probably have the best chance of the 3 because they're likely HR's unless hit to dead CF with a low-power hitter - these will probably be actual "barrels" and many of those leave the yard.
Hopefully we'll get a full explanation Thursday.
This thread kinda blew up while I was at work, so I apologize if anything I've said has been confirmed/denied already.
Hopefully we get a thorough explanation tomorrow.
It is a little disconcerting that they are touting it as a reward. If that is the case your reward is a hit. It would have been helpful if they showed or mentioned an out situation. Hopefully it is throttled on how generous you can achieve that result. I am also interested in knowing if the CPU can achieve a perfect-perfect result.“The saddest part of life is when someone who gave you your best memories becomes a memory”Comment

Still only one uniform template, saw buttons on the Cubs blue throwbacks.
Didn’t see any new tag animations. Same tired home plate slides and tags.
Can’t tell what’s different about the throw meter. Looks the same. Have to take their word and see what they say on Thursday about it.
Wondering how the control will be with the stutter steps and happy feet outfielders. Not a huge fan of more graphics on the screen during game play in that fielding icon. But will see how it all works out.
No new cameras. I hate how far back and high the cameras are after the ball has been put into play. I miss the low camera angle for fielding and post contact.
Hoping they’ve done something with pickoffs and leads from bases. That part of the game is ugly and old.Comment

The dirt at CBP should be a easy fix I would think. The number fonts on the outfield walls have been wrong forever. I think scoreboard layouts are a little off to!Comment

The team that decides what is done with this game every year ignores core issues and injects new unnecessary things. It's not ideal.Do it. (Release The Show for PC)Comment

It's a feature to counter what people were sayin' last year about not seeing positive results with good timing and swing placement. It'll probably yield a base hit 90% of the time.

If not this is a gigantic step into Arcade territory.Comment

I don't believe for 1 second that "Perfect-Perfect" will yield a guaranteed hit. It simply means that you had perfect timing and perfect alignment on the bat. I can hit perfect timing with perfect contact and the ball be 1 foot outside the zone, it doesn't guarantee a hit, it just guarantees the the speed of the ball off the bat will be at its peak for that situation.
That all being said, my favourite part of pre-season for sports games is the whining and complaining about things we have no idea about, and based purely on our own feelings and beliefs. We talk about wanting a society of "innocent until proven guilty" but as video game player we are so much more a "guilty until proven innocent" type of group.Comment
