Re: MLB 20: Possible Stadiums to Choose for your Rebranding
I am toying with the idea of doing a "Player Lock" franchise with the Washington Nationals where I rebrand them as the Montreal Expos. But the real question is should I pick a stadium that sort of but never really will emulate the Olympic Stadium, or should I completely ignore one of the worst stadiums ever used to host MLB games. But before I mention the small handful of stadiums I might considered, here are the ones who get eliminated right off the bat.
- All minor league stadiums (including the Spring Training one) because they are too small for MLB teams.
- The old historical stadiums because well their dimensions are just too small or too weird (aka: the Polo Grounds).
- The historical stadiums such as the original Yankee Stadium and Shea Stadium as well as Turner Field since they look too much like Yankee Stadium, Shea Stadium and Turner Field and would really be a waste of time using. Don't get me wrong, the original Yankee Stadium is an iconic stadium. But an iconic stadium for a Yankees franchise or a team who is playing the Yankees. But not a re-branded team.
So this leaves a rather small list of stadiums I feel I could use.
1) I could use the Marlin's first stadium which I believe was Joe Roby stadium as it has minimal team branding. Problem is, is that in center field there is a blue fence (or whatever it is) exactly where the batter's eye should be and in some lighting conditions I have a hard time picking up the white ball in the blue back ground while I am at the plate hitting.
2) I could use the old Herbert Humphry Dome in Minneapolis. Yes the wall in right field is hideous. But the Olympic Stadium is hideous, so this stadium could still be in the running.
3) Even though it screams out Toronto, the Skydome does sort of, kind of resemble the Big O and it does have some Canuckistani flags flying in it.
4) Now we are getting into alternatives that do not resemble the Olympic Stadium (and of course if a team was to come back to Montreal using the Big O should be the last place they ever should use). But this list is small since most MLB stadiums are heavily branded with the host team logo and or are too iconic and should only host games from the actual team the stadiums service (such as Fenway Park and Wriggly Field). So the forth option is really only one stadium and that is Petco Park. Yes there is a "San Diego Padres" sign off in center field. But compared to other parks, the Padres branding appears fairly low compared to other stadiums.
Or you know what, perhaps the National should remain the Nationals and this whole "Rebrand you team" was just a poor implemented feature.Last edited by My993C2; 02-17-2020, 03:23 PM.Comment

Where did you see that? In the stream where they went over relocation and rebranding they didn’t mention or show any new generic MLB stadiums at all. That’s a big deal for the feature, I don’t see why they would hide it and get some people upset and riled up about it for nothing. Even if they didn’t want to scroll through and show them to us now they probably would’ve at least said something about them.Comment

Played last night and I think I'll redo the Marlins as the Expos so they are in the NL and use the Marlins ballpark as the new Olympic stadium. The Marlins ballpark looks like a modern retractable domed stadium and it doesn't have too much 'Marlins' wording around it.Comment

Re: MLB 20: Possible Stadiums to Choose for your Rebranding
Is there a stadium with water in the background? I want to put the Rays in a new place and I know at one time there had been talk of building on the bay front. I'd like to do something like that.

Re: MLB 20: Possible Stadiums to Choose for your Rebranding
I had a bit of a change of heart regarding which stadium to use should I decide to re-brand the Washington Nationals into the Montreal Expos and that was to use the original stadium in Miami. Sure I am not a fan of the blue batter's eye in center field. But it's really only an issue when you are facing a southpaw pitcher and it's not a show stopper. I can still see the ball, it's just not optimal. Plus the original stadium in Miami also appears to have the least amount of branding. To me the only real two options is the original stadium in Miami and the Hubert Humphry Dome in Minneapolis and there is something about the wall in right field that turns me off on the dome. But I can't see myself using another team's stadium, it just does not seem right. So Miami it is, if I decide to re-brand the Nationals.Last edited by My993C2; 02-18-2020, 09:29 AM.Comment

If you look at the dugouts, they say visitors and home.
I got this from the Create Your Franchise video (1:04) from Sony on YouTube, not the Live Stream.
Hope this helps understand why some of us thought there might be generic MLB Stadiums in the game for rebranding and relocating.

I think he is referring to the stadium in the background of this shot.
