Re: MLB The Show 20: Fictional Franchise Progress Thread

I know I'm late to the game but I needed to go to fictional players. I loved Ridin's rosters but I started finding I was kinda cheating always adding a top prospect to build around.

I created 30 teams (also first time creating teams and really enjoyed doing that)and then did a fantasy draft with Bacon's rosters. I never played with Bacon's rosters before so all players were new to me and made the draft very fun. I have no idea how it'll go but I'm super excited.

    Here's the team I drafted:
    Lineup:
    CF-Justin Zimmer
    2B-Dexter McCain
    LF-Dylan Clark
    RF-Isaac White
    1B-Sal Bautista
    C-Mack Slade
    DH-Benji Rojas
    SS-Terrell Dunbar
    3B-Marshall Kemp

    Pitching Staff:
    R-Tom Shields
    L-Troy Slinger
    R-Buster Robinson
    R-Kevin Strombel
    R-Davis Wasiliewski

    LR-William Manning
    MRP-Lawrence Day
    MRP-Jesse Nelson
    MRP-Sam Shannon
    MRP-Mat Prior
    SU-Blake Miles
    SU-Jeramy Richards
    CL-Dan Washington

    Top prospects:
    CF-Ethan Johnson
    3B-Chase Mitchell
    SS-Buster Robinson
    SP-Deon Parks

After reading through all these posts I can't wait to see which players I can succeed with and which ones I hate myself for drafting. Thank you Bacon for creating these rosters.

Lastly let's hope we still have a MLB season this year (GO BREWERS).

So a couple switch hitters I enjoy on my team are foremost Clinton Lake. Five tool player and good defence in CF.

And Junior Gonzalez , not a tremendous hitter, more a contact guy, but gets on base at a decent clip and plays solid SS.

I’m playing with Junior Gonzalez. He’s a solid guy. Great fielder. 99 rating. Ok

          RALEIGH —
The Raleigh Capitols first half story has been their powerful offense, slick fielding defense, and timely acquisitions. Playing in Capitol Field, the Capitols in their first year since relocating from the MIA have been on a huge tear heading into the All-Star Break. Raleigh started out the season 1-9, then faded ten games under to 14-24. In May, management foreseeing the season getting away early, made a few changes. They traded for knuckleballer Villegas from the Dodgers for their failing closer Love. When RF Scott went down with a separated shoulder in May that would keep him out 2-3 months, GM Vese made a huge move acquiring RBI machine Ruiz from the Hawaii Islanders (formerly the D-Backs). He’s currently 3rd in the NL in RBIs (67), and the starting NL RF in the All-Star Game. SP Villagas has 10 wins/2.53ERA, an All-Star nod as well. The big under the radar move was acquiring rookie Freddy Ordonez from the Red Sox for a minor leaguer. Freddy is a 3B, but also fills in at 1B, and C (which is key). He’s been unreal, a polished lefty bat, leading all rookies with 20HRs and 4 GW HRs (all 8th inning +). Dude is super clutch! When we traded our CP Love, setup man Aquavito (26 saves, 2BS) slipped right in and has been lights out as the closer. SS Gonzalez and 2B Berry (.306AVG) are solid, both 99 fielders, so the middle of the defense has been our glue. Jernigan in CF has been solid as well, 2nd in the NL in doubles (33), 4th in hits (115). Calab Graybow was a bench guy to start the season, but after trading our 3B in late April, he’s been All-Star worthy. At 5’ 9” he reminds me of a Justin Turner, more power and super clutch. 2B by nature, he’s been our everyday 3B since the end of April. Slashing .310 22/60 .588SLG (4th in NL).
Last but not least, the MVP of the NL so far has been switch hitter, Derrick Shaw. Our beast of a 1B has been Triple Crown like, crushing everyone and everything:
          .332 (3rd) NL **B. Lewis, Cubs hitting .370[emoji33]**
          27 HR (2nd) NL
          69 RBI (1st) NL
          114 HITS (5th) NL
          63 RUNS (2nd) NL
          .657 SLG (1st) NL
          1.057 OPS (2nd) NL

Getting to .500 (37-37) was a big step! As the ASG was approaching the Capitols went on a sick tear. Winning 8 in a row (Mets had won 9 in a row coming in&#129324 heading into a huge 3 game series with the 1st place Mets in Capitol Field, sitting 4 games out. Capitols took Game 1 in a blowout, Game 2 went to the Mets in the same fashion. Game 3 featured the two aces, Dominguez vs. the nasty righty, Sacramento. Down 1-0 in a pitchers duel with only 1 hit going into the bottom of the 8th, SS Gonzalez hit a two out double to tie the game at 1, and knock out Sacramento and his shutout. Top 9 we gave up a lead off HR, and lost the series two out of three. Now sitting 5 games out of the Mets at the break, and 4 out in the WC (51-45).

          Raleigh Capitols:
          Team stats (MLB)
          AVG .273 (2nd)
          HITS (3rd)
          HR 131 (6th)
          ERA 3.91 (9th)

          Division Leaders:
          (AL)
          Boston Red Sox 60-36
          Cooperstown Indians 58-39
          Compton Athletics 59-39
          (NL)
          New York Mets 56-40
          Chicago Cubs 53-43
          Los Angeles Dodgers 57-39

Looking forward to the stretch run and the trade deadline coming. Thanks to Josh (sliders) and of course Bacon[emoji106] — you guys have made this game a whole lotta fun[emoji108]⚾️

Andrew Norris is my go to guy to pinch hit. He has been absolutely raking for me. Jorge Veras has been stellar as my lead off, but my surprise has been Rico Infante. I had him batting #7 or 8 and he’s put up my best obp so far. Moved him to #2 and have not been disappointed. I’ve had horrible luck offensively from my catcher slot. My top catcher was a 71, okay offense but stellar defense. I played most of the spring, and had 1 hit with him. My backup was platoon only (14 contact and 20 power or so from one side, 60/50 on the other), but his defense was atrocious and he had a noodle of an arm. I went 0/5 vs steal attempts with 2 of the balls being thrown to center field. At least with the other guy I knew I was getting good defense. Shipped the backup and a couple prospects to a team that had two good catchers. I went for their backup (81 overall) and have not been disappointed. He’s 36, so I’ll only get a year or two out of him( I believe he’s on a 3 year deal). I’ll definitely be grabbing a catcher in the draft or searching for one in free agency.

Also, has anyone else noticed an abundance of fielding “errors”? I don’t know if it’s just the roster or if it’s an issue with the game (haven’t played since 2018 and I vaguely remember it being an issue that was patched in the past). I’ve also noticed it on YouTube videos (online play and other franchise storyline playthroughs using real rosters).

I ended up doing my draft before I saw this reply but I happened to take him strictly because of the switch thrower. A couple games in I realized he can swing the stick as well. A pleasant surprise!

Yes, they are significantly more realistic this year; and with this patch in particular, fielding is tremendously good. You'll see mesmorizing plays followed by egregious mistakes....it's absolute bliss.

I came here to add another RP who may sleep by some people. I just happened to have him in a test run I did. (Fantasy draft where I drafted 13 pitchers before filling in fielders). Seth Thompson is not as good as Money, but he can get the job done as well. He won 3 straight P Silver Sluggers for that team. Worst season was 7 HRs on 160ish ABs, best was 15.

He really got me thinking about using a RP as an opener and in the lead off slot. In away games, you could potentially get 2 ABs out of the pitcher slot by the 3rd inning, and then pull him for the starter at the bottom of the 3rd. I guess it really depends on the situation.

I'd love to have a team with Vince Cartwright, Ed Money, and Seth Thompson.

Restarted my franchise. That's sad because I really liked my Giants team, but that DH rule annoyed me, it was a mistake not turning it on.

Anyways, so I restarted with the Rockies. And I read the comments of the fictional roster family in this thread. So surely I was going to take M. Mayfield.

Had the 8th pick, and the main guys are :

                    1. Gordon Landry
                    2. Antonio Martinez
                    3. Michael Mayfield
                    4. Colby Relaford
                    5. Hack Stephenson
                    6. Gavin Cook
                    7. Logan Wagner (his home run celebration is insane)

                    Pitching rotation is :

                    1. Tanner Wood
                    2. Woody Rockwell
                    3. Benito Martinez
                    4. Brady Journell
                    5. Spencer Miller

Hit a 510 foot home run with Wagner my first game at Coors. Currently sitting at 36-30. Few quick thoughts :

                    - I was expecting more from Relaford & Mayfield. But I'm sure they'll get it together.

                    - Gordon Landry is a b-e-a-s-t

                    - My pitching is atrocious

                    - I'm still having loads of fun.

Getting ready to head into the all-star break. Just finished June on a 7 game win streak the longest of the season which brings my record to 45-40 (3rd NL West, 1.5 WCGB). Joel O'Malley is performing way better than he did earlier in the season having won 2 games so far in his return. At the plate things have improved. Dylan Netzel had a 12 game hitting streak. Keith Cook I think has a 7 game hitting streak going.Things are looking a bit sunnier in SoCal. Seems as long as I'm not playing teams in my division I'm a decent team. 13-24 in Div. and 26-16 against everyone else.

                      My June team stats:
                      14-11 / .266 BA / 22 HR / 83 RBI/ 22 SB / 2.82 ERA / 213 SO

                      Michael Money's Debut Game:

Just highlights from some of my June games:
"Listen son, you only have enough runs when you’re showering after a win."

I have woody Rockwell and he is unhitable. Probably the pitcher I love pitching with the most. His attributes are dropping like crazy as I'm towards the end of the season, but the cpu can't hit his slow stuff at all. He's 18 and 6 with a 2.23 Era

I've been trying for 3+ years and I can't even hit Woody Rockwell. Shut me out in both of my last two games against him in my 2020 franchise.

Rockwell was doing great for me, but as noted above his ratings started to tank hard and I figured it wouldn't get any better and likely his effectiveness was going to drop off. So, despite my emotional attachment I dealt him for a trio of mid-range prospects.

My next game is actually against the team he went to and he's on the mound back at his old ballpark. I'm definitely going to be playing that one out, so I'll be able to report back whether or not I can hit Rockwell!

I'm really hoping he doesn't retire at the end of the season. His attributes are dropping fast, but I'd like to try him as a RP next year

I know some people have signed him on a one-year free agent contract, but in my case with fantasy draft ... He ended up with a two year deal. So, I'm not sure what the game logic is like .. if it has players retire and walk away from guaranteed money .. but maybe the contract will keep him there for another year.
