Re: MLB The Show 20: Fictional Franchise Progress Thread

Update 5 games left and it's still up for grabs. The Giants final games are against the Brewers and D-backs both pretty bad teams. The Dodgers have 2 games against the Rockies and the final 3 games they face us. So it could really could, come down to final game of the season depending on how things shake out.1590339965052.jpeg1590339995092.jpeg

Ok, so I was 9.5 out of first place to the Mets at one point after the All-Star Break. It’s now Sept 18 and I just took 2 out of 3 in Citi Field to go up 4.5 games on the not so Amazings. Zimmer and the great Sacramento put on a pitching duel in game 2 (Sac threw 117 pitches[emoji33]). With 9 games left including 3 at home vs. NYM I’m hoping to pull off an amazing 2nd half comeback (41-41 1st half of year). Looking forward to clinching this bad boy! A really up and down, fun season so far! Adjustments.jpg

Man not sure what Giants pitcher Tadahito Takatsu did to the people who vote for Cy Young Award. All season he was leading the way never seen his name anywhere but in 1st place. He's had a monster season. I think he is 22-8, pitched 10+ complete games, top 5 in ERA, WHIP, thrown a no hitter but he's not even top 3 anymore. He started falling from the rankings at the beginning of September so I thought maybe he had gotten injured. Nope the writers just turned on him.

In Padres news I'm down to the last game of the season. Staring down a must win and needing some help from the Giants in the form of a loss. I've dropped the last 2 games to the Dodgers with a combined run total of 17-1. Dallas Philips, Carter Dawkins are out for the season Willy Benavides and Woody Rockwell are done unless we make the playoff. Rockwell isnt a major loss as he has nosedived since July but still a veteran arm is a veteran arm.

So here we are series and possible season finale against the the Dodgers!IMG_20200525_131642797_1.jpegIMG_20200525_132217045_1.jpeg

            That's All Folks!

Sept 28th - Out with a whimper the Padres roller coaster of a season comes to end with a 3 game sweep at the hand of the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Padres finish with a 87-75 record good for 3rd in the NL West. Despite the season sputtering to a conclusion. There were many signs of resilience throughout a tumultuous season. A new GM, a manager on the hot seat from day one, multiple injuries. The team headed into the all-star break see-sawing the .500 mark. After the break the Padres looked like a new team finding themselves in first place from the break until the end August.

Then September came barrelling in and saw the team come crashing back down to earth with a record of 9 - 16. Bad habits crept back in and the team faltered and just couldn't get things back on track. A valiant effort as the Padres were in it until the very last day of the season. With a year under the belt of the new GM there are clear signs of a solid core to be built on and things might just be looking up in southern California in 2021.

Edit: My stats and standings table formatting got all messed up and I'm a bit to lazy to redo it so I'll summarize.
            • Giants Win the World Series 4-2 against the Twins
            • Padres have 2 award winners Kole Robertson wins the Cy Young and Alec Thigpen gets the Golden Glove for Pitcher
            • Michael Mayfield (Oakland A's) wins the AL MVP
            • Brandon Smith (Philadelphia Phillies) wins NL MVP
            • Ethan Kintzler (Detroit Tigers) wins the AL Cy Young

Hello again Cub Fans, here's your June Recap!

The Cubs and Reds had a back and forth battle for first in June. While both teams stayed virtually tied for the month, the St.Louis Cardinals made a run and pulled to with 2.5 games of first, suddenly making it a 3 team race. With a 2 game series in St. Louis, the Cubs swept the Cardinals and they couldn't recover and at one point late in June had fallen back to 12.5 games out!

The Cubs offense scuffled as SS Jorge Veras was lost for 2 weeks & 1B Brandon Bowers who led the N.L in Hr's (22) and Rbi's(68) was lost for 2 months with a separated shoulder. The Cubs pitching really helped the team stay ahead of the Reds and by months end the Cubs had a 5 game lead! A really fun month, hopefully July will be just as exciting!

Stop stealing for the Padres! Lol Jorge Ramos is a great utility player though.

I can't seem to hit with him. His avg is in the .230's. I liked he could play SS and OF too.

BTW, I should have listened to you about Alexzander Starks. So far in 5 starts for me he's 0-2 and when he starts to lose it he loses it! Couple times couldn't get to the 5th with him. Not sure if I want to move him to the pen or AAA. He has 1 more start for me before the All Star break. Right now I'm on a 4 game skid.

I think I only managed to get Ramos' average up in the .240's. He was one that I really had to get ahead in the count or put him in between better hitters. Even then he was still pretty hit or miss but he's solid defensively so that made up for my inability to hit with him.

Yup Starks is definetly a pain. I think he only won 1 of 7 games as a starter with only a single quality start to his name. We're going to have a talk about his future in the off-season and discuss a potential permanent move to reliever.

                      New Faces in the Clubhouse

                      PlayStation®4__2.jpg
Feburary 21, 2021 - Players are reporting for spring training and the 2021 season will see a few new faces along with a notable departure. The Padres finished 3rd Place last year just missing out on the playoffs on the final day of the season.

                      Out with the Old:
The first departure was manager Willie Peterson (87-57). It was widely believed that the front office would not be retaining his services come the off-season. After a strong July and August that saw San Diego in first place for almost 2 months many wondered if the Padres GM would have a change of heart with such a strong showing and the playoff looking likely. Any hopes Peterson had of retaining his post where dashed when the team stumbled in September falling from the top spot in the division to 3rd just barely above 4th place Colorado.

Another staff related move came in the form of hitting Coach Nigel Byrnes' contract not being renewed. Byrne was hired in early June to help with the sputtering offense. While things did improve clearly they did not improve enough to retain his services. However pitching coach Enrique Shell had his contract extended as he helped turn around a struggling pitching staff which saw Kole Robertson win the Cy Young and Alec Thigpen a Golden Glove.

The only player departure of note was that of 43 year old Woody Rockwell (2020 | 6-5/73 SO/ 3.98 ERA). San Diego signed Rockwell as a free agent shortly after spring training. Despite early success the future hall of fame pitcher could not sustain his output over the course of the season and soon found himself in the bullpen and flirting with being sent down to the minor league team. San Diego traded him back to his former club Tampa bay along with and minor league prospect for 30 year old RP Cory Melvin (2020 | 5.34 ERA/34 SO/30.1 IP) who isn't expected to break into the Padres bullpen.

                      In with the New:
The Padres staff will now be lead by first time manager Brandon Albrecht. The 56 year old Albrecht previous coaching experience is a hitting coach and farm director for several minor league teams. Albrecht is a former shortstop that spent most of his career in the minors but did have a few short stints in the MLB with the Phillies, Giants, Tigers and Marlins.

Carmine Reyes will join the staff as the new hitting coach. The off season saw Reyes pursued by multiple clubs including Tampa Bay and Philadelphia. Despite being offered the manager role for the Phillies, the Padres were able secure the services of the 63 year old as their hitting coach.

Last but not least we get to the new players that will call Petco Park home this year. First we have RF Percy Hawkins (2020 | .228 avg/16 HR/58 RBI) joins as a free agent having spent the previous 6 seasons with the Boston Red Sox. A career .246 hitter San Diego hopes the addition of Hawkins will help stabilize an outfield that was decimated at various times by injuries and will be a defensive upgrade of last years starter Kris Dodson. Hawkins has a lot of pop against both righties and lefties which will surely help a team that was bottom five in the league in hitting long balls.

Also joining the pitching rotation is free agent SP Greg Dickerson (2020 | 6-11/180 SO/6.46 ERA) Dickerson previously 5 years with the Marlins and before that 2 years with the Reds. The Padres clearly weren't scared off by Dickersons' ERA last year. The front office feels that the combination of working with pitching coach Shell and having a top 5 defense behind him will bring his ERA down to a more respectable number.

The Padres think these additions will get them over the hurdle and back to the playoffs for the first time since the 2006 season and avoid another disappointing finish. San Diego opens spring training tomorrow against the Seattle Mariners.

Dickerson is a good pickup. I have him with my Raleigh Capitols (rebranded Marlins). Solid lefty. Keeps you in games. Was huge down the stretch as my 4th starter, finished the season 12-10 3.79.

I'm gonna ask this here...Has anyone done a list of the minor league stadiums that shows what regions of the county they best corelate to? Ive done a complete 30 team rebrand franchise using Bacon/IBU rosters and assigned each team a minor league home park. Ive noticed that obviously some parks are region specific and even state specific in some cases. For example: Main St. Field has California state flags in the outfield and Riverboat Field has a freeway sign on the bridge with "Atlanta" on it.

jrnlgrn, did you do a fantasy draft? Both Robertson and Thigpen are on the same team in my fantasy draft chise. I played against them last night in a 3 game series in Detroit. The swinging A's put up runs when Kole started to falter in the top of the 5th.

No. Robertson and Thigpen are a combo on the Padres by default.
