Re: MLB The Show 20: Fictional Franchise Progress Thread

Quick update since yesterday's post. The Braves won the final two games of the three game set vs the Phillies for the sweep and have established a 3 game lead in the NL East. We also opened up the lead over the 3rd place Nats to 5.5 games. Philly and Washington will engage in a critical 3 game series while the Braves play the first place Reds for 3 games. Then it's off to Philadelphia for another 3 games.

Fingers crossed, but our starting pitching is starting to turn around as newly acquired catcher Renee Castro is doing a great job handling the pitching staff. This is vital for us as the offense has been struggling following the injury to Keys (though...remember that Renee Castro guy...he mashes taters too...hitting two more in game 2 vs Philly).

      Braves win 7th straight

The Braves continue their winning ways, clobbering the Cincinnati Reds 10-4 in the first of a three game series between two division leaders.

The Braves got off to a quick start, scoring 3 runs in the first off of Quinn Brignac. The Reds would respond with 3 runs in the 3rd off of Marty Melankon before the Braves exploded to put them away. The Braves maintain their 3 game lead in the NL East as the Phillies defeated the Nats.

Struggling LF Jorge Aguilera was a key contributor for Atlanta, hitting two HRs and a double as he tries to get off the schneid (he's still batting .210 for the year).

Game 2 will feature Braves Ace Chip Wolf vs the Reds number 5 Rich Parker.

I almost destroyed my PS5 controller last night. Detroit Lit me up for 14 run on 21 hits. Didn’t matter who came in after my starter it was just hit after hit. I’m going shopping for starters tonight after work. I will not waste year two getting my teeth kicked in repeatedly night after night thinking about drafting the year after. No no no I ain’t having that! Can’t believe I’m thinking or mortgaging the future already after 186 games into a franchise... Smh!

It happens man, just roll with it. You're going to have those games where nothing works. Next game, you might shut them down completely....and that's the beauty of the game.

Re: MLB The Show 20: Fictional Franchise Progress Thread

The Braves and Phillies continue their battle for first in the NL East.

The Braves lost Game 3 of their three-game set with Cincy with a 3-2 loss in extra innings. The Reds took 2 of 3 from us and allowed the Phillies to close to within 2 games of first.

Game 1 vs the Phillies did not start off well. Braves SP Jack Withenshaw had to be scratched from his start due to an injury to his throwing hand. Swingman Lucas Morse was brought in to start the game.

We got off to a fast start, building a quick 6-0 lead and knocking Phils starter Tyler Reynolds out of the game. Morse contributed to the offense, hitting his 6th HR of the season (yes...he can rake). However, Morse's struggles continued on the mound as he slowly allowed Philly back into the game, leaving us with a slim 6-5 lead in the 6th.

It was a bullpen game from there and our bullpen is TIRED after back-to-back extra inning games vs the Reds in the prior series. However, they were up to the task and after dodging a couple of threats (including a bases loaded jam) came away with the 7-5 win.

Game 2 of this 3 game set will feature Lefty Mitch Zimmermann of the Phils vs rookie righty Davis Wasiliewski.

Re: MLB The Show 20: Fictional Franchise Progress Thread

A very hectic first full month of the season in San DIego. Finished April with a 14-19 record and are in the bottom 5 records wise in the MLB. Playing in one of the most competitive divisions in the majors, we sit 9 games back of the Rockies (23-10). Early in the month we lost our number 2 pitcher Alec Thigpen for at least 2 month with a fractured arm. The bullpen has blown 6 saves and no one is really stepping up in the absence of Thigpen. Even back to back Cy Young Winner Kole Robertson doesn’t look like himself. At the plate we started off hot then trailed off for a long stretch in the middle of the month before a slight uptick. For a team that typically lacks power we are ahead of last year’s pace on homeruns at 1.09 per game (0.75 per game in 2021). Hoping things settle down and we can find a bit of form in May before we fall to far behind.

              Swinging Friars:
              Alexzander Starks - 0.48 ERA, 25 K, 0.80 WHIP in 18.2 Innings
              Mickey “Keke" Johnson - .462 BA, 1 HR, 9RBI in 39 At-Bats
              Dallas Phillips - .240 BA, 7 HR, 27 RBI, 10 BB

San Diego Chickens of the Month:
Josh Spikerman - 8.78 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, 18 Hits Allowed in 13.1 Innings
              Ron Kuwata - 1W/2L, 6.06 ERA, 1.84 WHIP in 16 Innings
              Percy Hopkins - .167 BA, 1 HR, 3 RBI in 78 At-Bats

The struggling Padres pitching staff suffers a major blow. Tanner Wood left Thursday/s game in extreme pain and said he felt something rip. A scan later confirmed the worst that Wood will be out for the remainder of the season with a torn labrum. This is the second major blow to San Diego's staff after Alec Thigpen went down in his second appearance of the season with a fractured arm. Thigpen isn't expect to make his return until early June. The Padres have called up highly rated prospect Deon Parks. This will be Parks first action at the major league level.

Couldn't have asked for a better Major League debut from Deon Parks. Came on as relief in the 6th and pitched 3 solid innings. Allowing 0 hits, striking out 7 and walking 2. Let's go Neon Deon!

Wasn't going to post an update until I finished-off August (just a few games left) but I had to....

Up 2 games on the Phillies. Playing the Giants in the first of a 4 game series. I have Marty Melankon on the mound vs Spencer Stephenson. Given how weak Stephenson is, I decided to throw in a bunch of backups to give them rest. Also note that my bullpen is ground down after a tough series vs St. Louis (I had to add a 13th pitcher before the game). I need a strong start from Marty to give them a rest.

Early part of the game...Phillies blasting their opponent. So, we have to win to keep our 2 game lead. Meanwhile, we can't buy a hit. But, Marty was pitching a shutout over 8 innings. Our recalled minor leaguer pitched a scoreless 9th...our only other reasonably rested short reliever (James Brandon) pitches a scoreless 10th. (Yup....it's a 0-0 ball game)

Bottom of the 10th...I make a tactical blunder and use long reliever Lucas Morse to pinch hit (which means he comes in cold at the top of the next inning). So, I roll with it and the top of the 11th...he gets two outs and then surrenders a frozen-rope HR to Kenji Suzuki...Giants up 1-0. Bottom of the 11th, 2 outs, 2 strike count on Rene Castro...and he blasts one deep for a HR and the game is tied. Bottom of the 12th, game still tied and Bobby Lockett slams a line drive into the RF foulpole for a HR to win the game in walk-off fashion!

We maintain our 2 game lead...and importantly, gave several relievers a night off (as that was just game 4 of a 17 game stretch without an off-day).
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.

The injury woes continue as Padres try to right the ship.

Jackson Gorzelanny left last night's game with what they hoped was a just a badly bruised shin. A scan would later reveal that Gorzey fractured his shin and is expected to miss up to 2 months. San Diego will certainly miss Gorzelannys speed on the base path and in the field. Prior to the injury he was batting . 272, had 5 HR, 17 RBI and 8 SB.

Shortstop KeKe Johnson will fill in at second until Gorzelannys return. So far through 60 at-bats Johnson is batting . 400, with 2 HR, 13 RBI and 12 runs.

Pedro Perdomo has been called up to complete the 26 man roster.
