Re: What happened?! WAYYY to many HRs.

I believe that is one of the reasons there are so many Hr. I use classic pitching and the ratings don't matter pitches all drift to the middle of the plate. Even when I'm aiming way out of the strike zone there are way too many "mistake" pitches.

I think pitching accuracy needs to be tuned a little at least for classic pitching. I assume that's what the cpu "uses" since it is ratings based so it would make sense.

Re: What happened?! WAYYY to many HRs.

I had 9 perfect/perfect swings last game. 6 of them resulted in hits. I’m averaging 3.87 HR per game. And 17 hits per game.

I typically play nearly an entire year on All Star Plus/HOF, bouncing up and down on dynamic difficulty that has the meter 1-2 notches from being off. And I get good results most years.

This year, I’m teetering on Legend already, and would be there if I didn’t turn the dynamic difficulty way down.

I’m only striking out 0.87 times per game as a batter. Walking just under 2 times per game.

Making way too much contact. Solid contact, at that. The hitting reticules (though I don’t play with them visually on) during the swing feedback seem huge, even for average to poor hitters. And the feedback still suggests for both me and the cpu that I should miss the pitch entirely, but we can both make contact with it despite the reticule not being on the ball at all. I thought they had finally taken steps to fix that.

I’ll try messing with contact sliders and see if that helps create more swings and misses. But the game is different this year, no doubt about it. This is not normal.

I agree with contact too much as a hitter. I never played legend before this year and I'm raking. I play as the Yankees and am 30 games in my franchise. I have the fewest strikeouts in the league and and highest batting average. My team batting average is over .300. I hate touching sliders, but I need to start playing with them.

I’m not even playing this game at the moment. I was getting way too negative and not enjoying playing it. The home abundance of homers and the inability to strike out the CPU at realistic rates was by far overshadowing my enjoyment. So I’m at least taking a break. I hope that SDS addresses these issues, because they are that, issues.

They’re trying to appeal to non baseball fans, or casual fans who only watch occasionally. Those are the types of fans who wouldn’t enjoy sitting through a 9 inning 2-1 pitchers duel with a combined 8 hits among the two teams. I think they feel like 12 HRs a game and 16-15 final scores are what is going to lure these people in. In turn it’s left the people who want a true baseball sim out to dry. I’m not saying there aren’t 16-15 slug feats, there certainly are. But, not at the frequency that the game has.

I swear, this thread is like the Twilight Zone to me...it's SO contrary to what I've been seeing. I'm actually hitting fewer HRs than I did last year so far.

I'm running on directional, clean-screen, AS default with just pitch speed adjustments (7 FB/6 OS) and I am not seeing any issues at all across three different franchises (using three different roster 'bases').

I'm not saying this to be condescending or dismissive of others' concerns, but I just genuinely don't understand the extreme disparity of outcomes.

Sliders. They actually do work. I saw way too many homers my first game. Don’t usually adjust sliders, but that’s what they’re there for. Game is playing great now.

Sure...but I mean, I'm not seeing the issues at the default settings (though I fully acknowledge my pitch speed settings are making it harder to get to around on the few FBs I DO see that are in the zone). That's the part that perplexes me.

Though I reckon some folks are a tad more disciplined than I am (whether by virtue of skill or use of an 'easy' camera angle; or a combination thereof). The CPU will stop nibbling if you lay off of those pitches and it may be forcing them to throw more pitches in the zone. I'm fooled enough on outside pitches that they keep going to that well...and I suspect that has tampered-down on things a fair bit.

I wish I could say the same. But coming from a 47 year old, who has been playing every title since I can remember, and playing as sim as can be expected, there is definitely a problem with power. I've played enough games, and understand baseball enough to know that a 36 power guy vs right handers isn't banging 2 homers a game. And it's not just an anomaly. This is happening no matter who I use, or what team I play. I do agree it's probably got a lot to do with pitch location from CPU, and I'll update sliders if need be, but I'm not going to play 60 games of my Franchise just to prove a point. Then start over, or make changes and play the remaining 100 games, knowing the first 60 were jacked up. I just need to find the sweet spot, for power, and CPU consistency/control, that results with power guys doing what they do, and there being a chance that a low, or middle power guy has a chance to occasionally pop one. But I want to be surprised when and if it happens.

I’m not saying it’s there yet, just simply saying it’s trending in that direction. The whole, “perfect, perfect,” feature was born from players who likely hated the fact that they, “timed the pitch perfectly,” and still got out or had weak contact. I’d venture to say the majority of people that took issue with the old way it worked were Diamond Dynasty players.

Where it gets tricky with adjusting sliders is the 'counterpoint'. If you lower human power, does the CPU throw more pitches in the zone (i.e. they don't "fear" you as much)? I looked at this a bit last year and that was exactly what started to happen...lowering the user sliders often changed the AI's approach, which then lead to the opposite outcome from what you were trying to achieve (which could lead one to make further tweaks that further compound the issues).

If I were having problems, I'd focus on the following areas.
                            • No visual aids or any kind
                            • Camera angle - find one that makes it more difficult to discern pitch location and timing
                            • Pitch speed - find a FB speed slider setting that challenges you to consistently pull a 95 mph fastball (and then set offspeed one to two notches below that)
                            • CPU Pitch Control - raise that to minimize pitch "drift" (pitch control is more like a pitcher's command of the pitch, whereas the consistency slider equates more to what we'd call control). This will yield a "smarter" pitcher and often results in higher walk rates and a drop in hitting effectiveness.
                            • Strike Frequency - a 1 point drop (and I'd go no further) to get them off the plate a bit
                            • User timing - a 1 point drop would shrink the timing zone and make it more difficult to square things up.

If it were me, I wouldn't even touch user contact or power....

I really wish there were two settings for The Show. One designed for Diamond Dynasty where user input reigns supreme and they can have their, “perfect/perfect,” .850 batting averages. And a second called simulation. Where player ratings are the most important element.
