    Re: Play-by-play/Commentary

I am actually OK with the commentary, I would like more stat overlays and there be discussion about that. My biggest complaint, however...I just lost one of my starting pitchers for 2-3 months, and other than when he was removed from the game, no mention of him. They should discuss how that effects the rotation going forward or how it effects the team's playoff chances...Something,

I do to for the first 50 times I hear something. After that it gets old. I really don't have commentary turned on anymore. I just like hearing things as if I was at the park.

2k had the best team, Gary Thorne, Steve Phillips and John Kruk. Very conversational, really felt like a tv broadcast. Sign that team!

We need Hawk Harrelson to do the commentary. I could hear “he gone” every time I struck somebody out. Only half kidding....

My suggestion has been somewhat similar, especially for Matt because he calls games often:

Take real life audio of what he's said (you can apply video context so he can see it), and ask him to repeat it with every bit of nuance and emotion (or lack thereof) involved as well.

What SDS needs to do is find a way to shorten lines and include more variations of saying the same thing, even if it's the same words, but just another way of delivering it. Diversity of different ways to say "strike one" even matters to me, IMO.

Do you all think play by play commentary will improve with the power of PS5?

dont wanna flog a dead horse but Diamond Dynasty doesn't need enhanced commentary, so why does franchise?

It's funny that the last gen with Rex Hudler and Dave Campbell dealt out more unique commentary then any game on the current gen.

I think more stats based commentary is a quick fix for the repetitive lines. I mean if they are talking about changing stats, they would stop saying the same things. I'd rather hear "he's hitting .259 with 40 rbis and has 253 career home runs" or "The Cardinals are in first place with a 50-23 record, they have the Cubs then the Mets coming up on the schedule". Just take things that are going on in the current season and talk about them and you won't ever have repetitive commentary.

Most of us agree the commentary gets old with the repetitiveness, etc. But, I've tried turning it off, and that doesn't feel right, so I just turn it down low so I can ignore it more easily.

There was one year where you could turn on/off the individual commentators. I left Matt on, but turned the others off. That wasn't bad, but a bit clunky because you could tell he was talking to the others sometimes, but you didn't hear them speak.

I would like more commentators that you could choose from. That way you could mix it up, never listen to the guys that annoy you the most (:cough: DeRo), and have different commentary from different guys.

We all agree commentary needs to be better, let's hope it does in the future, to make this game even better.

Besides the repetitiveness the thing that drives me crazy is situational inappropriateness. For example if I (as a pitcher) throw my primary pitch they shouldn't be talking about how well I throw my secondary pitch. There are numerous other examples.
At least they generally get the count right.

NBA 2k has a rotating commentator setup with a special guest now and then, like Chris Weber. They do say the same things but you don't hear the same people every game either so it doesn't get stale as fast. It's pretty good.
