Hire 3 play by play and 3 color no name announcers on the cheap and have them updating and adding on weekly to build a larger database. I know minor league and college announcers would do it on the cheap for exposure and to be part of the game. It worked in NFL 2K5. No one buys a game for the announcers, but it can certainly grow stale and detract from the game if you hear the same stuff over and over.

Re: Play-by-play/Commentary
My favourite part of the presentation is when Heidi Watney suddenly appears in a random location within the stadium. Surrounded by random pieces of apparatus and equipment, there seems to be no rhyme or reason to where she decides to deliver her hits from. She’ll just pop up in a bizarrely empty bullpen, or stand directly behind a random CCTV camera and tell me that the opposition manager is not very pleased with his teams at bats.
Makes me chuckle every time.Comment

Re: Play-by-play/Commentary
Not sure which of the 3 says it, but it happens on a check swing. When I first heard it, I thought it was my mind, but now I’ve heard it at least 20x. It should be “check swing on the pitch”Comment

Re: Play-by-play/Commentary
I just can’t believe Matt V has been the play by play for 14 years. How can the developers possibly think we’re not burned out of him by now? Is he family of someone high up in San Diego Studio or something?Comment

Re: Play-by-play/Commentary
I think they keep him around for continuity and the vast databank they have built up with him. what I like is until this year they had a revolving door the last few years with the broadcast team. last year Heidi was new, in 18 it was DeRo, 17 was Plesac and Reynolds. I like Vasgersian but he's no Vin Scully. but then, who is. when the PS5 era kicks off, if they don't want to entirely move on from Vasgersian, it would be great if there were 2 broadcast 2 teams of 2 man booths instead of 1 team 3 man booth.OSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23

Re: Play-by-play/Commentary
Listen to Matt tonight on Sunday Night Baseball. The emotion on the Judge homerun, was perfect.
Go play the show and listen to his same boring, lifeless homerun calls.
The guy has emotion, but its simple, the show team can't bring that emotion out of him for this game. They've had time, so no more excuses, this has passed.
I've said it elsewhere, similar to UFC and Michael Buffer. Buffer cant bring the same emotion in studio to record like he does live. Guess what the UFC team did? They took the audio from actual fights and incorporated his emotion into the game....bam..fixed.Comment

Re: Play-by-play/Commentary
I learned that if we had Matty V. lines from his real life PBP calls, you would hear him say "To your point..." a lot.
Everyone would bicker about the repetitive commentary.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Play-by-play/Commentary
Problem with emotive commentary (or any commentary that ‘stands out’ in any way) is that because it gets repeated a lot (remembering people play hundreds of games a year) it would make the repetitiveness even more obvious than with more bland commentary that doesn’t stand out.

Re: Play-by-play/Commentary
Yeah, I think part of the problem is everyone who wants Matt Vasgersian to sound like his real life counterpart only seem to point to how excited and high-pitched he gets in his home run calls. There is so much more to mention and bring about when it comes to how he actually talks.
One thing SDS can do better is mix them differently. In-game they have a very warm timbre, whereas in real life it is a bit more piercing treble as it works with that background crowd hiss. Kind of like how the catcher's mitt pop in game could get a little more thud/boom and a little less snap. If they could invert those, that would help give off the TV broadcast sound a wee bit more.
As far as lines go though, I'm sure I have already given my input in this thread.
What I don't get is why SDS not only rolls with three-man commentary booths, but insists on choosing people who sound so alike. For some reason they had a year or two with Eric Karros and Steve Lyons, and now they have Mark DeRosa with Dan Plesac. Sometimes I literally can't distinguish the two unless I'm focusing really hard on it (this was especially true of Eric & Steve). Harold was such a gem his year in the booth.
I'm wondering if they're pushing at all for John Smoltz and/or Alex Rodriguez. At least they actually call games with Matt regularly.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
