Re: Fielding flyballs should not be this hard
I'm really struggling with fielding. 2 or 3 errors a game. This just cost me huge.

Re: Fielding flyballs should not be this hard
I get them here and there but not to this extent. I have been able to navigate them and the system is heavily dependent on what it feels is the correct path to the ball which currently has an extremely strict tolerance. Anything erratic in approach is a guaranteed miss. It’s needs a lot of work.“The saddest part of life is when someone who gave you your best memories becomes a memory”Comment

Re: Fielding flyballs should not be this hard
I finally made the switch to auto defense yesterday. Never really thought about it before until I read about it on here about a month ago. Always seemed a bit cheap. But enough was enough. The defensive mistakes had nothing to do with my skill or the players skill. If the ai makes a mistake it’ll be more realistic.Comment

Here are some of my uploads and frustrating moments. Thanks cujomatty for the tip.

My OF could not pick up the ball and when he finally did, he wouldn't throw and it lead to an inside the park homerun.

My 1st baseman bolts into the OF for some reason. I play on manual fielding and had no control over him.

Re: Fielding flyballs should not be this hard
I am beginning to suspect that there is something to these issues that are ballpark-based.
I play most of my games at Fenway at the beginning of the year, as I like to learn the angles and get ready for the season. As a result, I hadn't been "dismissive" of a lot of these problems that people are reporting, but as stated in earlier posts, I had not been inundated with flyball/fielding issues.
Uh, yeah.
I played a game at the Trop against the Rays, and I had an instance where Pillar made it to the animation trigger area for making the catch, and he did actually catch the ball in foul territory, but the landing circle for the ball, was in the stands. As in, the catch circle was at least ten feet away contextually, and Pillar was in the animation for the catching the lazy flyball...
Later in the game, an easy fly ball to JD in left field, and he was literally camped under the ball for a good three to four seconds. In the replay, you could see he was "int eh animation" as he teleported sideways a foot or two, which lets you see that the animation zone has been entered. He stared up at the ball, and then just absolutely missed the catch. Mind you, he was under the ball, and set up for the catch for seconds, as the high fly ball was up in the air...
So, I am wondering if the disparity between folks seeing issues, and having these fly-ball problems, but some folks not reporting "as big" an issue, and yet others saying that there is nothing wrong, stem from playing in different parks.
Is it possible that indoor stadiums, roofed stadiums, and open outdoor parks have more or less fielding issues, as a result? This could certainly explain the differences of opinion as to how bad this issue really is.
I can play five games in Fenway, and never have an outfielder problem. No issues, perfect lock-ons, and no errors.
But then I go to Tampa, and I played a game up in Toronto, and had major issues that I had never run into outside in Boston.
I have fixed my analog fielding issue, for the time being, by turning off the Meter, and adjusting the infield error slider up to two. I hit the practice field the other day, and there is ABSOLUTELY no rhyme or reason to the throws to first, and the errors. Fielder positioning, stepping towards the target with the L stick... it is a flip of the coin, yellow throw or green. Until they fix this, or explain how it works, I'll just throw with no Meter.
These fielding issues, plus the "Fielder won't pick up the ball" problem have really started to pile up for me lately, but again, only after I left Fenway.
I am wondering if some of the guys that are really struggling with the outfielder error problems would be willing to play a three game test set in Fenway, and see if the issues are less, more, or the same?
It would be interesting to see what other folks determine, compared to where the bulk of their problems are coming from, based on game locales.
Thoughts?

Re: Fielding flyballs should not be this hard
I don't think its ballpark based.
I played 2 games in the Trop this year without issue and I've played in several stadiums that have been shown in videos without seeing an issue.
I'm not sure what the culprit is, but I don't believe that it is related to ballparks.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: Fielding flyballs should not be this hard
Made the switch this morning to auto fielding after yet another fielding disaster, and I probably will not look back. Early returns looked promising, and it was pleasant to see my defense look competent in the later innings.Comment
