Runners waiting far too late to run, and then getting thrown out. Guys getting picked off first base when I didn't tell them to steal.

And double plays. So many double plays. The worst was when I had runners on first and second with one out, and hit a fly ball that was clearly going to land in front of the center fielder. But my men didn't move until the ball hit the ground, so the CF threw to second, then he threw to first, and that was the inning.

The wind was blowing in at about 10mph, so anything in the air got knocked down. And this was just a crazy example of how the game almost forces you to hit homers in order to score right now.
Was the guy going to first crawling there? I've never even thrown out a runner at first on a hit into the outfield let alone throwing to second for the force first and then to first somehow beating the runner.

Many of the things you describe happen in real baseball. I also think alot of the issues you are having in this post are tied to base running aggressiveness. Yes there are "some" AI problems at play but alot has to do with ratings.

Next time it happens check the BR aggression for the runner(s) and see if they are below 25. I use Cycloniac's TrueSim rosters and sliders. He makes sure all BR aggression are at least 25 to avoid the very problems you raise.

That said, I have too seen some runners not move (or hesitate) on clear extra base hits..so that is definitely an AI problem.

I have also seen some very fast runners not aggressively go from 2nd to home on clear RBI situations because the darn 3B coach literally stood there and made no hand signal to hold or to wave home. So the runner hesitated. I fired the coach after the game lol. Fortunately he wasn't a real coach.

I continue to maintain the biggest base running problem is the AB canceling (runners freeze on ball in play) for zero reason.

Just after writing this I see patch 1.11 is released. Surprise surprise it supposedly addressed the following: "Fixed an issue where the runner leading off of first base would freeze on a specific line drive hit type to right field."

So for all you conspiracy folks that us AB gamers just don't know how to hold a controller, SDS admits it's AI.

Now..unfortunately this problem doesn't just occur at 1B, although the majority of the time it does. So that is progress assuming it is fixed.

I'm talking in game that I've never done it but I've also never seen the situation he described happen in real life either. Have I seen a guy thrown out at first on a single to right in real life? Yes. Have I seen a single to right thrown to second for a force and then thrown to first beating the runner there for a double play in real life? Not once.

From right field it happens. From centerfield, not so much, especially when throwing to 2b first. I've seen a lot of bizarre running things in this game. Even if those things do happen IRL, they sure don't happen with the frequency they do in the game, and certainly not every game.

Well, most importantly from my individual perspective, these things weren't happening before the last few patches in my games.

After that, with my sliders I do already bump up runner speed and aggressiveness, two notches from default.

I do totally agree that the runners freezing what the ball is struck is a core problem. Its one that I personally wasn't having before this year. Though I'd seen it in the show in years past the same way.

In this case, the ball was hit where it landed several feet in front of the CF, about halfway between the bag and the wall. It was obvious that he wasn't going to catch it, but he also got to it very quickly and immediately fired it to second.

The second baseman or short stop (don't know which), then immediately fired it to first, and the batter, who was both very slow and lollygaging down the line, was thrown out too.

I've yet to figure out why sometimes the batters sprint down to first and other times they jog slowly, but its been in the game for a long time, and its caused me to get outs for years. Separate bug from the main one we've been talking about.

One thing I've seen, but don't know if it's my imagination or not, but I see it often is that one dude with 40 speed and another with 80 speed make the exact same kind of hit to the same infielder and that 40 rated guy hauls butt down the line and is safe at first while the 80 rated guy is thrown out by 2 steps. Just seems like sometimes the game slows a runner down to get an out or speeds them up to get a hit.

I have baserunning on assist instead of auto, but have all the same problems. When the baserunners, even with two out, forget to even start running and return to their base, even the fastest runner can be thrown out on a ground ball to the outfield.

I'll believe that. Kyle Schwarber, who has a speed of 44, almost always sprints down the line and gets close to making it on a slow grounder sometimes for me. While faster guys sometimes do the "give up jog".

Here's a good one for you (apologies if this is a retread, I haven't read the entire thread).

Had runners on first and second, nobody out. Hit a ball between 1st and 2nd basemen, a low liner that got through. Instead of just holding up until it got by him, the runner on first went back to first and just stood there. Guy on second did the same (I guess I must've breathed on the L2 button too heavily). Right fielder gets it, throws to third for one and then they go to second for two. A 9-5-4 double play!!!

You did not hit the button. The runners going back just sometines happens even with two outs.

Yeah, they just occasionally become total dolts and make mistakes that little leaguers wouldn't. It would be nice it today's patch magically fixes things, since the patch that broke it didn't have any notes about baserunning in it either.

                                Here's my latest and greatest...

Guy on third with nobody out. Good hitter at the plate. The move: try to steal home! Catcher had enough time to do his taxes while he waited for the guy to get there. Rally dead.
