I’m really puzzled why they would do this.

Well they took out notables in 18 I think it was, where you could see a text note of a game’s highlights for all of the games on a day (eg X had 25 Ks or Y hit his 300th homer). It wasn’t much and needed to be expanded upon but it added to the immersion. Then it was removed when the phases were added.

And it’s kind of Franchise so I’ll say it too, Inside the Show was removed from RTTS.

Well, at least they had the decency to warn us in advance. Last time they did something like this they said nothing and I had to find out at the load screen that I couldn't import my season mode file from the previous year.

What can one say that hasn't already been said? Game developers view features as a color pallet, it seems. Perhaps this is due to turnover within their ranks, I really don't know. As with any venture, to get bigger and more lucrative, you have to appeal to wider markets. Wider markets bring shorter attention spans and high time preference. Carry-over saves appeal to the meticulous and dedicated, and they aren't marketing to that crowd anymore.

On top of all the stuff about expanded rosters with full playable A and placeholder spots (I like the 26x4+16 suggestion), I'd want to see proper international signings represented. Eg, young Latin American players and older Asian players no longer in the draft. Also, non-roster invitees for spring training, both for players in the system and free agents. Finally, a new injury (with short and long term effects) and DL system, including allowing players to be set as injured in rosters. Those are things I can see not being compatible with old saves, along with fixing the schedules (seems like that one would have happened by now if it could).

Stuff like better AI roster management, improved progression/regression, position change mechanics, more modern starter/bullpen usage, etc are all things I want to see but might not require the removal of carryover... Of course, that's easy for me to say when I don't have to code it. [emoji57]

The Y2Y feature was a truly daunting task for them. It is not a simple feature.

So if the removal of it allows them to rebuild a better and even deeper franchise mode for a more robust off-season, and for me more importantly bigger rosters, and better AI we all are all for it.

I just fear it may take several cycles (2-3) at a minimum to implement it all. And then an entire cycle to add back Y2Y if it ever comes back.

            So many questions.....

For sure. There's a reason it's not more common across games. And yeah, I'm also concerned that it's not a one year absence if they're aiming for a bigger revamp, err update, of franchise. It stinks, but as you said, sometimes short term pain is required for long term gain.

SDS needs to be honest with us and tell us why they pulled the y2y carry over saves. If it is for this long term gain, then I am sure most people (myself included) are willing to trash our existing franchise and RTTS players. But they weren't honest with us when they turfed the season mode unannounced.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Will Be Missing a Signature Feature

the loss of Y2Y saves is tragic for me as I am in year five of my franchise. I probably will not finish it before 21 releases. So I have some serious decisions to make before then.

as for features that would take some of the stings out of it for me have to be the following

Franchise expansion (picking team mascots, cities, stadiums (give us more major league size expansion stadium choices AKA ASB 05), and having a draft)

more immersive presentation stuff like having the players being announced and lined up on your and your opponent's opening days of the season, during the all-star game and postseason series.

seeing the American flag out in center field held by all those people on opening day, while having the national anthem begging sung.

the flyover of the jets on opening day

the ability to have any and all base safe out calls reviewed (seen a lot of calls that should have been not called how they were on other bases other than first)

during home run derby in all-star weekend having kids out there shagging balls in the outfield.

                  stat-wise here we go:

                  pitcher records at every stadium

team vs team records throughout the season

                  Pitcher vs team records

batter stats at every stadium though out the season

Well, that is all I can think of at this very moment but I know there is a bunch more I am omitting at this time.

My concern, which I have said before. Nothing they have taken out this generation has ever made it back in the game. Every mode has moved more and more to a micro transaction friendly mode. Im sorry but I see franchise mode of the future being some horrendous blend of March To October and DD. It will be a feature laden mess aimed at shortening playtime and adding ways to spend stubs.

Yeah, you'd hope they address it when franchise/RTTS are discussed. I can understand reluctance to say when it's coming back, but giving us an idea of the plan - ie, if this is a multi-year tear down and rebuild, or a make a few key moves in the off-season retool. Unfortunately, those quick turnarounds usually don't work while the patient approach often does. Look no further than SDS' hometown team...

it would take a lot for Sony to kill this annual purchase from me, but this would do it. thankfully I have 14 great years of the Show to replay at any time (07-20), and hopefully 1 more in 21

I am more of a Season mode player than a true Franchise player. I really only care about playing one season at a time starting with Spring Training in February and ending in October and then comparing who won and who lost in my MLBTS seasons with what happened in the real world. So from that perspective, the lack of MLBTS 20 to 21 year-to-year carry over saves will not affect me. But when RTTS was revamped in MLBTS 18, I created three RTTS players (two pitchers and a 2B guy), plus I have since added two more SS RTTS players which act more as batting practice players for my main 2B guy (though I like playing SS better then 2B). So yes I am not happy at the prospect of not being able to carry these players over. I knew having 5 RTTS players might be a little too much and have always wondered could I stop playing with one or more of these guys. But I wanted that to be my decision, I did not want SDS to dictate when these players were terminated and of course there is nothing stopping me from playing with them inside of MLBTS 20. But how long do I want to do this? One year? Two years? More? At some point in time playing MLBTS 20 in the future will become stale.

So now I am faced with the decision. How do I want to play my MLB The Show games moving forward and I am leaning towards turfing my RTTS players and instead starting a Franchise every year (but still only playing single seasons with the Franchise) and then when I want to play the game like I would with a RTTS player, I could use the Player Lock game mode and when I just want to manage the game (historically before I got into RTTS I was a MoM player), I could use the Manage Only Mode game mode. For me it is kind of the best of both worlds.

But I still do not like being in this position as I really do not want to kill my RTTS players and for those out there who have been playing with one Franchise year after year (real world years), losing the year-to-year carry over saves bites.

yeah, I'm mostly a 1&done, 1 season only probably like 80% of the time with only an Atlanta carry-over from 14 all the way to 20 but I've been past the point I wanted to reboot, so I won't miss carry-over in that regard. what I will miss about carry-over is those great historical classic rosters from the 80's and 90's. I've only dabbled in RTTS the last few years, where the bulk of my playing is, is in doing an Orioles season, move on to a White Sox season, then the Rockies, A's or Mariners and finally either Reds or Pirates. by the time all that's done is time for another new release. but I damn sure don't want to play any franchise that remotely resembles M2O, or especially DD

I just read the article for the first time. I've always looked forward to the release every year. I see no reason to buy the game this year and drop my carry over franchise. The code already exists for the ps4.

I was wondering if they would mess up the core support of the game - ps4 users - to develop it for new platforms. Now we know the answer.

I'm sure xbox users will buy enough copies to more than make up for people like me who won't buy it this year - and that is the calculation.
