I absolutely love coach! And somehow I just knew he was one of those close talkers [emoji1787]

Probably the biggest area of fielding improvement I was hoping for was the outfield play and this was their focus this year.

Appreciate them expanding on last week’s video a little but, but I don’t think any of the questions posted in Victor’s thread were answered in that video [emoji53]

Will there be any IGN or GameStop videos this year? Or did they release about the same time as the twitch streams in previous years?

This video is independent of last week's video and Victors thread.

The questions provided for this video were provided by a Facebook post where they asked the community to submit questions they had and selected ones would be answered by Ramone in a Q&A video.

The questions in Victor's thread will be answered via an upcoming blog I believe.

Got it. I must have missed that. Thanks for clarifying. I thought it was odd when it didn’t seem like any of them were answered.

Did SCEA ever figure out that the reason dives never worked is because the catching animations were always sped up so they actually covered more ground than the dives? There is no point in diving if the running catch is more likely to get to the ball.

Was it last year that they touted that fielding matters? While it’s been better than previous years I still find poor defenders easily chase down fly balls in the gaps.

I use the Jays ( not the best outfield defence) and even though I get the stutter animations, they don’t have much problem catching up. I am on HOF with default sliders. Doesn’t really bother me but I hope to see more variety on defence this year.

To be fair, they are still Major League Baseball players. They can run and catch a fly ball on the run. Just because they are below average doesn’t mean they can’t catch a fly ball in the gap

They should take bad routes, get bad breaks off the bat and have the occasional “oh and he bitches it” moments. But they also aren’t little leaguers.

This should be added to the commentary and all broadcasters should use this phrase when a fielder makes an error on a routine play.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Fielding Q&A Video

I was hoping for more "challenge" in fielding. There may be some subtle things, but I feel for the most part fielding is bland.

Last year I had trouble in the beginning getting outfielders to "suck into" animation and dropped way too many flyballs. One of the patches corrected it.

I want to see standout infielders matter. I can use a weaker ss and still make the same diving plays in the hole.

Hopefully there will be more that will be revealed.

Hi guys I’m new to the show, and just wanted a little help with batting terminology...contact L vs Contact R. Does this mean contact against a R handed pitcher and left handed pitcher? Or does in mean Contact from a R or L handed batting stance? Same for power. Any help would be appreciated.

Contact (and Power) are in reference to which hand the pitcher throws with.

Honestly, doesn't sound like much for an "overhaul". Sure it'll be nice to make the odd catch at the wall, but I think there is a lot more fundamentally wrong with fielding than lack of home run robs (which are already incredibly common with auto fielding/computer fielding, regardless of the fielders quality) I guess it'll be nice if we don't have issues with players making catches in the vicinity of the wall like in some previous years, but that's not a feature, that's just the lack of a bug.

Honestly, I think fielding has been a bit of a mess for a long time now and they just keep skirting around it and sticking bits on for more highlight reel plays instead of addressing the real issues. The fielders feel massive, the outfield and infield feel tiny, they all cover way too much ground and it honestly just doesn't have the feel of a real game of baseball.
