I'm not trying to be a jerk, but if you guys sim so much that you end up several years ahead in your Franchise each year, don't you think OOTP Baseball might be a more enjoyable experience for you? I've never played it, but I understand it has a much superior Franchise and Sim engine.

But to answer your question directly, if people are simming every single game, I'd get where you are coming from, but what about the people that don't sim every game? I'm someone who has transitioned to a playstyle where I sim more games than not, but I still like to go in and play games during the season and definitely in the playoffs.
Not everyone has the time or wants to take the time to play out every single game in their franchise, but they still want to play the game on the field while advancing through their franchise, so The Show has a place beside OOTP for people that do sim.
When I play NBA 2k I maybe play 15 games in the regular season start to finish. 15 out of 82, so not even 25% of the games. Then there is a another decent size portion of games that I hop into to play out the critical moments in or to just hop in and play because I can. You could say why don't I just go play one of the NBA text sims, but I still want the on court gameplay, so I don't play those.
Now I do play OOTP, but I also would like to have a reason to play The Show. If they convince me to buy the game tomorrow, I'll be one of those people that sims more than not, but still does play games throughout my franchise. I'm sure there are plenty of people like me who sim a lot, but also still want to play some on the field, so when you are in a mood to play a game, OOTP cannot satisfy that need.
Now I don't need to have on field gameplay. If they don't have a good franchise stream tomorrow then I'll be perfectly fine playing OOTP exclusively this year, but there are plenty of people that do have a stronger urge to play on the field, but still sim plenty and The Show is a better fit for them than OOTP.

I sim because I love the game.
I can't stand playing a current season with current real life rosters trying to match what may or may not be happening in the real world then start to question would x player have these stats or be traded for this person or whatever present day scenario you may come up with.
What I want is to play with a team that I built up. Hard to do in baseball and get multiple years in playing all the games. I want to see those prospects a few years away be contributing to their MLB team. I want those veterans who were amazing have less of an impact. I want those players who would not perform well in real life become break out players.
Most importantly, I want those homegrown prospects I draft be the go to guys on my team and have them lead me to the promised land.
I want to start from now and see what the future brings. Then I want to play with that team I made and reap the rewards from my work.
Here is my example and why I am bummed about year to year saves:
In 18, I started an Indians franchise and simmed to the beginning of 2025 being in charge of everything for my team, meaning all manual. All drafting, all scouting, all free agency, all contracts, etc. In MLB 18 I played every pitch for the 2025 season and it was rewarding to see my once prospects be my main guys. I did the same for mlb 19 and played 2026. Then the same for MLB 20 and played 2027. It has been the best franchise experience over any sport I have ever played in my long history of sports gaming starting with Ken Griffey Jr presents major league baseball. I had Lindor signed through 2026 and signed Judge till 2027 on a 5 year deal. The stories I created in it will be long remembered as I am also a note taker in a nice gaming notebook I make for each game I buy.
I tried fictional rosters but it wasn't for me either.
I know I am in the extreme minority here but we each buy the game to play the way we want to play. It really is quite rewarding.Funkycorm

Re: Please bring back Y2Y saves for 22!!!!
If '20 is the last year for Y2Y saves, it will very likely be my only MLB The Show game for a few years. I used to do the trek of starting over every year starting back in '08. When '14 introduced Y2Y saves, it made it better to continue to play your RttS player but with whatever the additional features were added to the game. I just can't see myself having to slug through the minors each year just for the next gen experience even thought I do have a PS5. Being in IT, I get that you have to make a sacrifice for the greater good, but man, I wish it was something else.est 1978

Re: Please bring back Y2Y saves for 22!!!!
We all knew this time was coming especially if you really want modes to develop & a whole console leap. .
I am a huge fan of it mainly for RTTS because I can never finish a season of franchise anymore. I enjoy the immersion of match ups and stat tracking your mlb map.
But this has to happen if we want to see RTTs & chise evolve.
Because in order for a Y2Y a lot of ground work has to remain the same.
I don't want to regrind in minors w rtts. I have a carry over guy from 17'
But can only hold on for so long

Re: Please bring back Y2Y saves for 22!!!!
Here is the thing folks, even if you had a carry over from 14-20 thats where it ends. By a leap year lol (feature not on 21) when 22 comes back with it and a big IF you still will not be able to get those long carry overs to 22 with the missing year in between.
The same goes for the CPU control import trick to get players from 1 game to the next.
Without 21 having it you can't move anything from 20 to 22 etc your going to need 21 to have the feature so your gonna half to come with terms your gonna hit a dead end regardless eventually going to half to bite the bullet and START OVER.
Trust me I get it 100% first it was removal of low camera angle, season mode, online franchise, full broadcast presentation and now YEAR2YEAR saves.
In my personal opinion PS4 version will still have the import work around and possibly the load up option of 2020 for roster and franchise in main menu, but on PS5 and xbox you will not.
I will be testing out my own theory and work around April 16th that might save us all as far as roster tricks go.
That's the only way I would buy 21. Nothing against the company and the developers but that's just reality. I don't sim. I play every game in manage mode. I have too much invested in my current franchise to throw it away without the guarantee of starting another long term franchise.≡Comment

I don't sim.....the Y2Y feature let me play 12 full seasons (I do use quick count...so games were about 40ish minutes) over 7 versions of the game. Now, I basically play football for 6 months a year and baseball for 6 months so this was right up my alley.Comment

Re: Please bring back Y2Y saves for 22!!!!
My current Year 5 Yankees franchise is easily the greatest franchise mode experience I have ever had on any console sports game. So much so, I am not letting it go. The moment word broke Y2Y would not be available for 21 I started my 2021 season and am now in June.
I play every game, every pitch.
I am sure MLB 21 will play a great game of baseball. I have no doubt the game will be excellent as always (although I am getting concerned with the direction of stick skills reigning and how that has already influenced nerfing bunting because of online exploits and now check swings are purely on the user and now the discipline rating is turfed....so what’s next?). With that being said....that awesome excitement of knowing I am carrying over my franchise that I am fully invested in (with prospects I drafted back on 2017 and 2018 who are now making an impact on the big league club and even a 2020 draft choice making the team out of spring in 2021) to the new game with the new features, enhanced gameplay etc.....ain't happening.
So my hope is they truly do improve the game in terms of Franchise/RTTS mode so we can get this feature back. I don’t have high hopes at all it is returning anytime soon though.
So this is where the decision to sit out the full retail launch was made quite easy (I am sure I will pick it up very late in the cycle as hopefully classic rosters are created along with ballparks to enjoy them in). Unless something tomorrow just floors me with franchise mode....MLB 20 will be enjoyed until we see a really “wow” type of improvement to get me to give it up and start over.
I think and I have said it before the move to another console had a decent amount of influence on this feature being removed for now. Also other factors came into play potentially with RTTS and maybe the budget change as well.
I get it. So hopefully the progress will be worth the sacrifice in the long term.
I am not bitter about it at all. The initial feelings were a little more pronounced. I have been loving this feature big time since MLB 14. And I am invested in several franchise files (others beside Yankees Year 5) that have given me much joy. And of course the classic roster community was kicked in the balls.....hard. So let’s see the full impact once we know some more information after tomorrow night.
I look forward to reading impressions and eventually....picking the game up way down the road. I am not seeing a reason to pick it up on release, when I have zero desire to start over.

Re: Please bring back Y2Y saves for 22!!!!
I'm still convinced we will be able to port rosters, since no ratings have been added.
I care more about getting an external roster editor than I do about losing this feature.
This game won't reach its true potential until we have something better to work with. Its absurd that we have to create/edit one player at a time. Why not just send me back to 1988 with Commodore 64 or Oregon Trail?!
Focus on Two-way players this year has possibly resulted in the player object being completely overhauled so could potentially negate the possibility of roster imports.

Re: Please bring back Y2Y saves for 22!!!!
It's official, I do not need to see any more developer streams to decide to buy or not the buy the game this year on launch day. I don't have a PS5 and I am not a DD gamer, so waiting for the last two developers streams show casing next gen consoles when it is damn near impossible to buy a next gen console as well as show casing their beloved most cherished game mode, Diamond Dynasty is a waste of time, for me. The verdict?
For the first time in the nine years I have been playing this series, I will NOT be buying it on launch day and the primary reason is because they turfed the Y2Y saves. Yes I understand they made changes to Franchise and RTTS making carrying over the saves difficult this time around. But SDS is being rather silent on whether Y2Y saves will ever come back. At some point in time MLBTS 20 will become stale and maybe at that time I will buy the newer MLBTS game (which ever that one may be). But there is nothing in MLBTS 21 that makes me want to buy it now and having the game launch almost one month after the real world regular season has started is also not helping.Comment

Re: Please bring back Y2Y saves for 22!!!!
I said this in the other thread, but my assumption is they removed it this year because they couldn't transfer 20 to 21 with what they're doing. I wholeheartedly imagine they're bringing it back for 22 so you can bring in your 21 file.
I always imagined one of the reasons sports devs didn't have this kind of feature in their games is because if they kept improving the mode, then at some point it would break. Maybe it's one of the reasons their mode was stagnant for so long. It would require having a year where you couldn't transfer them over, and this might be that year. Given that this is the year they're also bringing in a new customer base with Xbox, I'm going to be the guy who understands.
Then again, I don't currently have a franchise to carry over, so I'm not the person who would be most upset by this news anyway.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Please bring back Y2Y saves for 22!!!!
Having viewed how things have been going for many years now I would not place a bet on Y2Y returning next year. I certainly hope it does but I won't hold my breath.
What that means for me is that while I will fire up RTTS just to see how much they have changed it and how much they are monetizing it, I won't be investing much time in the mode knowing I might have to just start over next year.
Out of all of the changes they have made to RTTS in recent years I have always said that Y2Y saves was the best feature they ever added. That was followed by the ability to play a series without going back to the menu between every game.Comment

What I'm really wondering is whether they can find a way for SOTS files to stick with players in future installments.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
