MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
I have had 0 issues on XSX even post patch. NBA2K21 doesnt have ground breaking improvements in graphics either. The lighting (in nba games) is incredible but everything else is the practically the same. 2K also only runs 60fps offline. It's not even close to 60fps online. Framerate has always been crappy online for 2K games.
The game doesn’t run 60fps at all times on gameplay and that’s a problem. I was playing in the angels stadium at night earlier and line drives to first or foul towards first it gets a little choppy. My oled supports VRR which also helps out making the frame rates seem smoother and it’s still noticeable. On the series x this is inexcusable.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
Just got the game today for the PS4 and the first thing that I really noticed as an improvement was the players facial animations. They’re the best I’ve ever seen in this series. They must have really focused on the animations and facial expressions for this years game because it’s very improved and impressive.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
In today’s episode of commentary sucks ....
I got the whole “signed as a free agent earlier in the year” line from Matt, followed by other dude’s spiel about showing up midway thru the season ....
Expect i traded for the dude, and it was prior to the first spring training game.
Thanks for the immersion bros. Cant wait to hear it 50 more times.Just one man’s opinion.
I don’t actually care about any of this.Comment

The crowd reactions this year the worse than ever.. they “flat out” don’t react to to stuff it drives me nuts. Perhaps the reactions are broken because I use broadcast presentation ?Comment

When he’s number one on the pitching rotation, you can’t use him as a hitter for some reason. Move him down a slot and you should be able too

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
Really cant decide if I want to get 21 or not. Quite honestly, I am bored of 20. I have tried starting franchises with different teams 15 times and cant get past 10 games....something about knowing im using outdated rosters (even though I have the 2021 update), schedules being from 2020, etc makes me not enjoy franchise mode like I used to. I know people always say "I wont pay $60 for a roster update", but i like having the "newest version" of things so I might make the switch....
Ive been holding out on buying 21 until I got a ps5...but after failing for the millionth time today with the Target drop, i have just accepted I wont get one until theyre available in stores (who knows when that will be). I miss playing the show....but have seen mixed responses on 21.
Bottom line, i am asking: should i get 21 for ps4 or not? I am a franchise only guy; like to play every pitch of every game. I used Armors sliders last year but have know he hasnt gotten 21 yet which is also making me hesitant. I am very indecisive as you can tell haha. Any feedback and advice from the community would be appreciated!Comment

Franchise while not getting new features or the sexy back of the box features, the rebuild of the foundation is welcomed as an avid franchise player. Budgets are better, CPU will sign free agents during the season, rosters expanded to 93, the playoff IL bug has apparently been fixed (can't verify myself), and if you're a sounds of the show person, those are still fully functional on the PS4.
So yes, I think its worth the update in my opinion. I was one who considered staying with '20 due to Y2Y saves being removed and not wanting to give up my franchise that I was 12 virtual years into (started on '16), but I'm extremely glad I updated, because the gameplay alone is that much better.
.02I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

As a guy on the PS4 that is a franchise only guy that plays every pitch of every game, I would recommend getting '21. The gameplay alone is worth the price of admission in my opinion, primarily the changes to fielding.

I think I am going to get it. I used brinskies 1000 hour roster on 20 for a few weeks before i gave up playing 20 (about 1.5 months ago, which is why im getting the Show "itch" again), and the fact that he has a roster for 21 that used ridin as a base is a HUGE sell for me...
I would love to hear other opinions before I get it, but thanks again countryboy!Comment

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
Truth be told I am not sold on 21.
Before I review it, I use all star difficulty, classic pitching, directional hitting, auto fielding, and manual throwing. I have also played this series every year since 2009.
I am on the PS5.
21 is a gorgeous game on the field. It really is buttery smooth. There were improvements to fielding, which I will discuss, and the new menus are sleek.
However, as a whole it is not an upgrade over 20.
The outfield play has been improved but there are negatives to this. The players will unload the ball very quickly and there will be weird animations when they do. The at wall play is improved but you see outfielders throw bullets to the bases during quick awkward animations. The improvements are outweighed by the need to lower outfielder speed as it is too quick at default. Something that has never been an issue until 21.
When it comes to hitting and pitching, it has been very hard to find a balance. Offense over a 40 game period for me and others in the sliders subforum has been anemic at best. Slight adjustments to sliders and to difficulty have proven unsuccessful in solving this problem. I have spent more time trying to get the game to play well than actually playing the game. Something I have never had to do before.
When it comes to franchise improvements, the improvements they touted, trade and budget logic, are worse than they have ever been. You can resign a player with 1 year of service time to a 2 year/400k deal and easily build a team of super young studs. Players ask for much less than they should in arbitration and players are asking and taking unrealistically low contracts in free agency. It is better for pitchers than hitters. I have two 10 year sims testing this. A player like Juan Soto will ask for and take $17M a year in free agency. Much to low for a player of his caliber and age when he hits the open market.
Progression and regression are the same subpar and broken systems. Though I will say that draft class generation has been improved but you still get 25 year old draft picks multiple years in. Editing is still required but less editing is needed.
I have never returned to a previous version of this game and this is the first time since 2009 I will be shelving a new version for a previous version. I am going back to 20 as 21 has done nothing but frustrate me.
Note this is my experience and others will have differing opinions but this is my honest take on the game. I also feel this is a fair review as I have given the game a fair chance. Most here will know that I have not bashed this game or anything in my time here but have instead looked at it in a balanced manner.Last edited by Funkycorm; 05-28-2021, 10:32 AM.Funkycorm
