Well at least the stadium banners are lit up this year. It does have a RBI Baseball feeling too it. Players look a little sweaty or glossy! Granted I am on a ps4 pro with 1080p tv. I feel MLB 20 looked a lot better and more realistic skin tones and player lighting.

Not feeling that new UI at all feels like a mobile app for makeup or something. I got the game for the infielder update and strafing control. And hope to see a difference in infield play.

Also hoping a user controlled player lock player can cover the 2nd base bag and not just watch the CPU jog into 2nd base

I think seeing NBA 2K on PS5/XSX has given people the expectation that every game is going to take a leap graphically and I can't say that I blame anyone because the base game is going to cost $76 (with tax) on the flagship console.. it's a tough sale.

Maybe things are starting to plateau a little so we need to temper our expectations?

My last MLB game was 19 and the more I watch videos and read the more I'm considering just getting MLB 20 for cheap and playing it on my PS5 if it runs at 60 FPS.

Completely get everyone saying it's not much of an upgrade, but remember the law of diminishing returns. As we go up in consoles, the graphical leap is not going to be as substantial. If you are thinking we are going PS1 to PS2, you are out of your mind.

The 3 game sessions in moments are not such a pain in the *** anynore due to the quick loading times I will give the next generation that! Besides that the only confirmation my eyes got that I was playing the PS5 version were the birds in the outfield sky haha.

Yeh, evan Fifa from lazy EA sports got a fairly decent upgrade, u can instantly tell if its next gen or old gen Fifa while playing it.

Also as I remember well the transition from PS2 to PS3 was incredible for The Show, new player models, new animations, new graphics all around, it was really next gen back then. PS3 to PS4 I really dont remember but I think it was more focused on 720p to 1080p than on core graphics.

To be fair, every game was incredible going from PS2 to PS3 more or less. The jump from SD to HD will pretty much never be topped for leaps. Like, even Madden was a disaster and didn't look "great" but was still leaps beyond PS2 graphics.

So basically I sold my PS4 Pro back in September for extra money to get a $500 PS5 which I am still waiting for by the way to get what looks like just a slightly sharper looking MLB The Show with smooth 4k60????

I should have kept my PS4 Pro so I could have at least still been playing the game and now I have nothing!!!

I mean if MLB The Show 21 on PS5 actually took the same kind of graphic leap that NBA2K21 did then my long *** wait would be ok. But now sadly when I do finally get a PS5 it looks like I will pretty much be playing MLB The Show 21 PS4 2.0!

What a mistake I made.

Thats true, but as I remember correctly PS3 The Show came with improved player models, cloth physics and such(I still remember that wow feeling when I saw the David Wright tv ad)... ttyt i was hoping for something like that, nothing major but at least something to make the game look upgraded(like fifa with the 3d hairs and new pitch texture), but perhaps I just got my expectations to high...

Fifa had big upgrades in a lot of graphical areas not only lightining. In the crowd, pitch texture(vastly improved) and a few top caliber players such as Messi, Alisson, Cavani and Joao Felix (they have fully 3d hair in next gen) are a showcase from whats coming in the future.

Also good to mention the LOD system (level of detail on far cameras) are vastly improved too, and since soccer is a game where u see the game from far away 98% of the time it makes it look a lot better since players are more recognazible.

Animations were bumbped up too, id say about 10-15% more transitional animations than old gen wich makes the game feel a lot smoother.

All in all I think it was a very solid upgrade from old gen, specially considering that u didnt need to buy next gen (dual entlitement).

said all that, the core gameplay still stucks, problaby worst fifa ive played ever. LMAO

Yeah I actually forgot about the hair part because I stopped playing months ago. As you said the gameplay is so bad and so far behind PES (which is sadly stale and has its other issues).

I was definitely wowed by how much better that stadiums and even ball physics on little touches looked, but most of the faces and even the player models seemed untouched outside of the lighting. I do agree it was more than the Show did, but I think the slight changes to the lighting has made the overall game look better, but the player models in the Show still look like they clay action figures as they haven’t changed from 16 or 17. The older face scans are really outdated too.

Everything else seems to look slightly better though IMO. I understand people being disappointed, but I can’t think of a sports game that pushed things graphically this year except maybe 2K, and even that wasn’t that much impressively different to me. We won’t see real upgrades for another year or probably 2.

The video is kind of misleading as is any comparison video. Someone who has played both first hand, I can tell you there is a difference, mainly the lighting and colors. Colors absolutely look better. You going to have guys watch this in compressed 1080p (some will even be in 480p) and just shake their head "omg this is identical!!!". When you have compressed videos, as posted, you lose a lot of the fine detail, is what it is.

Always hated comparison videos for this reason. Oh well, game looks amazing on next gen, hopefully everyone gets to try it

We put this one at the level that most people still have since 1080p is still in more homes than 4K, but we probably will do a 4K version as well.

definitely understandable, but the differences will be much more apparent in 4K. I think it's also important to note that PS5 will be 4K/60, while PS4 can't do either of those, unless you have a pro, and even then, you have to drop down to 1440p to get a somewhat consistent 60 FPS.
