I didn't expect anything. The dev team is mediocre in tech IMHO. The grass is horrible still. The lighting is archaic and off compared to any real life stadium. Colors are mostly the same, which means completely off in most areas. A few improvements for next gen, but not at all worth getting for me. Maybe next year. Big maybe.


I like the game overall, but it's just not worth it to me until the next major upgrade. Maybe by 2023 this will look next gen. Big maybe again.

After playing for a couple of days on PS5 I honestly think 20 was better. Something is off with the lighting now, even in the PS4 version. Many stadiums at night are dark and weirdly lit, I don’t know something seems off and I definitely think it’s the lighting. Peking textures were better last year, lighting was better last year. I do love the new equipment though. It looks great. Hopefully they can fix some of this stuff through patches.

For lighting to regress from where it was, not good at all, you need some kind of incompetency on your dev team. Much like the people doing grass and coloring in the series, it doesn't seem like the talent is there to make this truly the game everyone wants to see.


We know they are held back by last gen, but that was the excuse last time, and their game honestly looks terrible in too many places for me to defend anybody. Truth hurts.

Dude it’s been like that the past 3-4 years. I bet if you post a pic of X player without labeling what edition it was, people wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. Maybe a few gameplay features here and there but graphically, this game hasn’t changed much.

So, as I'm (impatiently) awaiting the arrival of my Series X - I am beyond stoked for Gamepass release on my Xbox one tomorrow.

I'm a huge baseball fan, and my only taste of The Show was in 2014, the one and only time I've ever owned Playstation and not Xbox, and it wasn't long after that I switched back to Xbox.

So it will be interesting. I'll have the X1 version for two weeks, then The Show will be the first game I load up on my Series X on May 6th, or whenever it actually arrives.

Not only will I finally be able to dive back into an amazing version of baseball in a video game in a long time, but it will also be my introductory to the next-gen console. Looking forward to getting a firsthand experience in seeing the differences and upgrades, regardless.

Edit: wasn't trying to jack the PS4-PS5 comparisons that this thread is - but it was a good watch/read for me, as someone wondering the differences between this gen and last.

I've been reading several other sites and been talking to some of the streamers about how the game plays/looks on nxt gen.

The majority of them say it looks incredible and also how smooth it plays. There are a few that say there are hiccups and the graphics are only a little better than ps4 pro.

I wonder if it has to do w/ TV hookup? Do the people who are saying it's a slightly better upgrade than last gen graphically on a 4K tv? or are they playing on 1080 p?

Also if you remember last gen, the graphics didnt really take a huge jump until MLB 18, their 4th game into the PS4 franchise. I expect something similar for this gen but hoping next year.

Well that seals the deal for me. This and RTTS has made my decision. Next gen may be a couple years away for me.

Are the graphics and frame rate really the exact same? Or are there some minor improvements? I don’t care about stadium creator but I miss SOTS. If graphics and frame rate are exact same, I’ll just go back to ps4 version. Anyone have both ?

Wrong, I have a PS5 and I would say this is a disappointment. Sport games developers either fall in the Madden Buckets of being lazy and just import the last gen and calling it next gen or they fall under the 2K Sports bucket in actually creating a next gen game. I actually stopped buying MLB the show the past few years because in all honesty, it’s the same game every year with just minor tweaks. I’m waiting to see when they actually change the player models, cloth physics, etc and stop being lazy. This is what happens when you lock in the sport and are the only developer for that sport, same happens with Madden year over year. I wish 2K or another developer would step up to challenge to actually motivate MLB the show to do something new, or else they will keep spitting the same game every year and some fans will continue to make excuses for them. My two cents on this, very disappointed.

You are correct. They have no competition but basketball games do.

Probably can divide up this thread in two camps

1. Bought a next gen system and will be happy with said new features/ game.

2. Couldn’t find/didn’t look for next gen so will try to use this as justification to make themselves feel better.


Poor mods lol

3 camps. Haven't done anything to franchise in a number of years so I have no interest in buying any version of the game until that is improved.

Maybe one day people will finally realize that "next gen" products don't always mean better products. Everyone gets their hopes sky high then BAM.....not what we thought was it.
