It’s not a bad looking game, but it’s overly dismissive to say the only people who care don’t have a next generation system

Agreed, I understand there are people that are providing valid criticism to the developers, there are some that are defending them.

There's nothing that screams 'PS5' or 'next gen' from what I've seen. It literally looks like MLB The Show 21 on PS4 just with faster load times.

How about you guys try it on a console yourself before making wildly inaccurate statements? And yeah, I’ve played both, on my actual console. Quite a bit of difference, but with closed minds, it’s hard to notice it.

color accuracy is an actual technical difference. "i'm no tech expert" could have been the entirety of your post.

You don't need a next generation system to get the colors right. I guess you're no tech expert either.

To me MLB 21 looks like if MLB 20 went from high to ultra settings. A bit better lighting, textures, shadows, ect.

Something to consider. These graphics would look way more impressive if we didn't get the PS4 pro last gen. Imagine going from base PS4 with 1080p and poor frame rate to PS5 4k smooth 60fps. There would be a lot more wow factor.

We never had a mid gen upgrade in the past and now that we have them graphic upgrades will feel more incremental.

I’m not playing 4K and HDR but all stadiums at night area really dark. It feels like half the lights are off in the stadium ( a bit like the Bush stadium like year).

For those playing 4K and HDR are you observing this or something’s wrong on my side ?

Agreed. Glad it’s just not me. Here’s a comparison for both games. Hopefully this gets patched soon.

OK then what aspect of MLB The Show 21 on the PS5/XBX truly showcases the use and the power of 'next-gen' consoles?

I've played on both too. Hell they even look the damn same between PS4 and PS5.

I will have the game on xbox one S.

I have a 4K TV but obviously XBO S doesn't do 4k. But my tv does HDR.

Will the game look better on my 1080p or hook it up to my 4k which has HDR?

For anyone having issue with this I definitely feel your frustrating and it could be better...However one way I’ve noticed it looking better is making sure your ps5 is always selected to 2160 rather than automatic selection. I notice a bit of a difference... much more crisper and detailed.

Hard to believe SDS still can’t figure out how to make a hat fit and look good a lot of the players. Also, does the Altuve player model still look like he’s wearing a fat suit under his jersey?

The hats have killed me for years. Basically anything other than a normal cap with a normal bill looks awful. Don’t get me started on low profile with a curved bill.

Probably can divide up this thread in two camps

1. Bought a next gen system and will be happy with said new features/ game.

2. Couldn’t find/didn’t look for next gen so will try to use this as justification to make themselves feel better.

Wrong, I have a PS5 and I would say this is a disappointment. Sport games developers either fall in the Madden Buckets of being lazy and just import the last gen and calling it next gen or they fall under the 2K Sports bucket in actually creating a next gen game. I actually stopped buying MLB the show the past few years because in all honesty, it’s the same game every year with just minor tweaks. I’m waiting to see when they actually change the player models, cloth physics, etc and stop being lazy. This is what happens when you lock in the sport and are the only developer for that sport, same happens with Madden year over year. I wish 2K or another developer would step up to challenge to actually motivate MLB the show to do something new, or else they will keep spitting the same game every year and some fans will continue to make excuses for them. My two cents on this, very disappointed.
