Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

Well....for the first time since 2016 I'm actually looking forward to starting over. Yeah, can't believe I wrote that sentence either.

But with all the fits and starts, hang-ups and hiccups that I've encountered over the course of this franchise run, I'm actually looking forward to starting over from scratch and hopefully not experience anything similar to the "setbacks" I did this go around.

So I'm putting '21 down and looking forward to '22 coming out. Come on April 1st so that I can start my virtual spring training.

It's been a hell of a ride '21, even if we encountered several bumpy roads, and you'll go down as easily one of the top 3 in the series for me.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

It's been fun, CB. Good luck with your 22 franchise.

I'm sticking with 21 until I get a PS5, so maybe there's hope for me to catch you on the number of franchise games played.

Country did you still play default legend for both pitching and hitting? If so do you not find the cpu offence punchless ?

Yes I still play on default Legend.

No, I actually find the CPU offense to be formidable without being overpowered. If I pitch well, then I can have success normally. If I miss pitches, then I'm likely going to get knocked around.

And you play with meter? It feels after getting used to any mechanic their offence becomes non existent

Im 14 years into a the twins fantasy draft franchise. I just thought I’d share few observations..

I’ve found that the draft produces enough talent, given time for the incumbent stars of the league to age out. But the first classes are prevented from developing properly because the farm systems are full of “real prospects.” As those guys begin to matriculate into the league, the draftees begin to develop better. No longer blocked from the playtime necessary to develop. But superstars do emerge. Marco Lucero is a LF I really wanted in the draft in 24’ or 25’. Seattle grabbed him before I could. MFer became a badass quick. 97 ovr and impossible to strike out .

The cpu does make position changes here and there. Simeon Woods Richardson got moved to the pen and was a dominant force in the league for a decade.

When players begin to decline is probably the most random and true to life of the sim. I drafted a lefty starter named John Beard in 24’. As a starter he was mostly below replacement level. But he had something. I moved him to relief 5 years into his career. He is 35 now and just had his best year. 186 innings with a 2.12 ERA. He was an 87 ovr during the season. His highest and at age 35. Tatis Jr on the other hand cratered. He was a superstar one year, and below replacement level the next.

Positions go through fluctuations in talent density. SS was so incredibly loaded for about 3 years. Teams had 2-3 GOOD shortstops. Now beside Robert Pauson (easily the best player in the league. A multi-time MVP, 80+ career WAR) teams are barren. But outfield which was a **** show, is going through a talent boom.

There is always decent pitching in the draft.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

I have been playing on 21 and love the game. PS4 if that matters. I usually play with two teams the rays and one team in the nl but I decided to play with one team from each division. I’m in the 22 season. I play every 5th game with each team.

                        Rays
21 season 88-74 managed to make the wild card, defeated the mariners and advanced to the ALDS where the white Sox whooped me in a 4 game sweep.
22 season 87-75 the entire season felt like a struggle until September and October where everything came together. For most of the year the rays were in 4th place then we managed to grab the last wild card spot. I had to travel to Boston for the WC game then Boston sent me packing and the rays were done.

                        Indians
I started playing with the Indians in 22 by the time I started with them they were selling off some of their better players and funny enough they had offered Bieber to the rays in a cpu generated trade that I accepted after I went in and added more value for cle than what the cpu offered. In 21 they went 77-85 in 22 they went 78-84 and finished 3rd in the AL Central. Jose Ramirez signed a extension thru 29 for 27.4 m a year. That guy can mash.

                        Rangers
21 season 79-83. The rangers were a mess and were one of the lowest rated teams in the mlb. The first season I didn’t really do much. Managed to pick up Chris paddock and Randal grichcuk through trades.
22 season 75-87. It was a disappointing season in the off season I managed to sign kris Bryant, keone kela, and James Paxton. Through the All star break the rangers were competitive hovering around 2nd and 3rd place in the AL west but the bottom fell out. In the off season I plan to fire the manager and hopefully bring back Ron Washington as skipper. He currently is the first base coach in Atlanta and he is on his final year there.

Nationals 21 season 73-89. The 21 season was a mess as expected I didn’t really do much with the roster in 21. I did add Christian Javier from Houston and moved him to closer where he did well then blew up on 22 and saved 56 games. Also added Michael Brantley in a cpu offered trade.
22 season 86-76 finished 5 games back of the WC. The east was tough with Atlanta winning the east with 102 wins and the Phillies in 2nd with 96 wins. The nationals spent most of the season at the top of the division until the final two months when we kind of fizzled. I added Alberto Mondesi at the deadline but I think he will just be a rental bc his asking price is high. Also added Corey Kluber in the off-season.

Pirates 21 season 65-97 I love playing with the pirates. On of my favorite teams to play with and I always end up with them bc they are so bad every year lol. The first year I added Roberto Osuna through FA. Traded for Dustin May, Gavin Sheets, and Tyrone Taylor.
22 season 87-75 1st in the NL central! I was so pumped and through out the season I was just waiting for the fall out but it never came. In the off-season I managed to sign Trevor Story and Raisel Iglesias in FA. Some of the younger guys on the roster really came through like Oneil Cruz. That guy is a freak! I was pumped to have Kebryan Hayes at 3rd, Trevor Story at SS, and Kevin Newman at 2nd for a awesome defensive trio but Newman went down after 59 games with a dislocated ankle. I signed alesmys Diaz and platooned him with rodolfo Castro. Which I love Castro now. For some reason I can hit really well with him. I ended up having to play the dodgers in the NLDS and I just finished up the series which was awesome I didn’t think I had much of a chance against the dodgers but my pitchers were great. I won the 1st game 3-0, lost the second 2-3, won game 3 2-1, lost game 4 3-4, and won game 5 in LA 5-1. This is the first post season series I managed to win in the show 21! Now I got the braves so we will see how it goes!

Giants 21 season 98-64. I didn’t play with the giants in the 21 season they had a great year in 21 winning the NL and losing to the white Sox in the World Series. I decided to pick a team from each division and originally picked the diamond backs but I just couldn’t get into playing with them. I didn’t really like the stadium or the roster so I noticed the giants were last in the west and were struggling so I started playing with them.
22 season 77-85 3rd in the west but 24 games outta 1st. The dodgers were 1st with 101 wins. The padres 2nd 91 wins and clinched the wild card. Most of the year the giants were dead last but managed to finish above the Rockies and diamond backs. The giants added Jonathan Schoop through FA in the off-season. Buster posey had a great year and was in the top 3 for the highest average. I think he finished second. I did extend his contract for 4 more years at 26 m a year. Just couldn’t imagine him finishing his career anywhere else.

                          2021 TRADE DEADLINE UPDATE:

We've officially entered August, meaning the trade deadline has come and passed. While there were many trades already reported, there are many more to be reported after a very busy July 31st.

The Yankees were the big dealer on deadline day, shipping out some short term veterans and former top prospect for some future reinforcements. They were never thought of as sellers given their history, but with their recent performance, they decided what they could get outweighed what they had.

Red Sox Add to Rotation On Deadline Day

The Boston Red Sox acquired starting pitcher Caleb Smith from the Arizona Diamondbacks Saturday afternoon, closing out their trading season with what they hope can be an upgrade to a rotating back of the rotation.

In return, the Diamondbacks received a pair of low level prospects in infielder Cameron Cannon and outfielder Freddy Valdez.

Smith, 29, has been anything but effective this season, currently sitting at 2-7 with a 5.76 ERA. He was called up to the majors by Arizona in May, starting 17 games, but failed to keep runs off the board, leading the league in runs allowed with 49. The one thing Smith has done well this season is strike batters out. Smith has 80 strikeouts in 77 innings, already the second most of his five-year career.

Valdez, 19, was just acquired from the Mets this past offseason in the Andrew Benintendi trade. He has been in Single-A to this point, failing to do much with the bat, though he has reached base at in impressive rate.

Cannon, 23, was drafted by Boston in the second round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft. He, like Valdez, has spent the year in Single-A, showing off a mediocre bat, while flashing the glove all over the infield. Arizona has promoted Cannon to Double-A Amarillo.

Boston's motive behind acquiring Smith was that they were looking for a left-handed starter that could be effective in the right situation while remaining under club control for at least a couple of years. Smith will get the start on Monday against the Tampa Bay Rays as he looks to start his Red Sox career off on the right foot.

In all the years I've played franchise - I don't sim - I only made the playoffs once before. That was with the Pirates and I lost the wild card game. Now in 2023 with Pirates relocated franchise I won the division and beat Los Angeles in the divisional series.

I haven't really posted much progress here this year. But I've been running a franchise with Bacon's roster with the Reds. I've basically knocked out most of the season since mid-December (I play every single pitch - no simming - so it has been a pretty rapid pace here lately).

We scuffled up through July (hovering around .500); fired our manager and we got hot in August/early September following some roster moves. Our initial roster was quite all-or-nothing power-heavy and it lead to a lot of up of inconsistency.

We addressed that in a couple of spots with lower-key acquisitions and it has re-balanced our offense a fair bit. We also strengthened our pitching; the big addition being Mets ace Andy Sacramento; who had been heavily struggling in a contract year. The majority of our trades were for expiring contracts; Sacramento being the only guy we extended long-term.

After 2 separate significant winning streaks, we're sitting at 81-60 right now, 6.5 games up on the hated Cardinals (who we face in our next series after sweeping them a week earlier). We're going all-out for a WS this year - then I want to re-modulate the overall team's build in the off-season.

One other fun fact: Mets slugger Rex West is having an insane season - about 20 games left and he has 57 HRs (while hitting a robust .360). I've been carefully watching his progress; very curious to see just how many HRs he winds-up with (and if he wins the Triple Crown).

It has been a really fun season; I'm not sure what will happen when '22 drops. I rarely go back to past versions of sports games but I am also quite enthralled with the storylines we have going on right now. Given that I expect to wrap-up Season 1 in the next 2 weeks or so; I will likely dive straight into Season 2 and get that underway.
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.
