Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

We're off to an 8-1 start in 2022. We swept the Yankees and Marlins and took two of three from the Pirates. Most games have been tight. Will Smith already has six saves.

Ozuna is hitting over .500. Riley is off to a strong start, hitting close to .400 with two homers and nine RBIs. Joc started the year 1-for-24, but he has doubles in back-to-back games now. But we'll need more from him than .077-0-0.

After a four-game set with the Nats, we get the Padres at home for three. That will be a good test, since they're off to a 7-2 start.

The Rays are the best team in baseball at this point, going 9-1 to start the year.

One minor trade so far with the Yankees getting Tony Watson from the Phillies for minor-league catcher Max McDowell.

Do you feel more loose or less anxious playing regular season games in April versus the grind of the postseason, especially the World Series?

      I know I always did.

Oh, it's way more loose now.

The playoffs - especially the NLCS against the Dodgers - were intense. In fact, and I know this sounds absurd, I'm not sure I wasn't more nervous playing the NLCS than I was watching the real NLCS last fall. Every game was a grind.

I definitely think the game ups the difficulty in the postseason. I was legit terrified of guys like Bellinger. I don't get that same feeling in the regular season.

Cardinals finish Spring with 14-9 record

The Cardinals finished up Spring Training with a 14-9 record and will look towards Opening Day.

Spring went pretty much as planned although the Cardinals did add to their roster when they picked up Matthew Boyd off waivers.

Probably the biggest news is that Jasson Dominguez will start the season in Memphis for extended Spring Training after a horrendous Spring that saw him strike out at a clip of over 60% of his at-bats. Magnerius Sierra will likely start in center on Opening Day. The rest of the lineup is pretty much what you would expect.

The pitching staff stayed pretty much as you would expect with the only change being that Michael Wacha will start in the bullpen after struggling this Spring and getting a setback with shoulder discomfort. Matthew Boyd will join Flaherty, Fried, Alcantara, and Lynn in the rotation.

The bullpen keeps the usual suspects in place although Alex Reyes will start in Memphis as he continues to try to regain his 2022 National League Reliever of the Year form. Diego Castillo and Roberto Osuna will serve as co-closers per manager Mike Schildt.

The 2025 season will open in Cincinnati against a Reds team that underachieved last year.

Hopefully Fried is enjoyable to pitch with. Slider good vs. lefties & righties. The curve is nasty too! Good luck with your season.

Cardinals take 2 of 3 from Reds to open 2025 season

The Cardinals (2-1) took two out of three against the Reds in Cincinnati to begin the 2025 season.

The Cardinals won on Opening Day as Jack Flaherty and Luis Castillo had a pitchers duel, despite the Cardinals jumping up 2-0 in the 2nd when Tyler O'Neill blasted a 2 run homerun. But after that, it was nip and tuck as each starter matched the other pitch for pitch. Flaherty recorded 8 strikeouts while Castillo recorded 10. The Reds would get a run in the 6th off of Flaherty and then another run in the 9th off of Roberto Osuna, but the Cardinals would prevail 3-2 for the Opening Day victory.

Saturday's game was the regular season debut for Max Fried and it couldn't have been much worse. Fried went 2 1/3 innings giving up 7 ER on 8 hits as the Reds beat down the Cardinals 9-5.

Sunday's finale saw Sandy Alcantara make his regular season debut and it was much better. Alcantara went just 5 innings, pulled after 98 pitches, but he recorded 5 strikeouts in those innings. He would get a no decision as the Cards and Reds were scoreless until the 7th when Paul DeJong hit a two run homerun and Patrick Wisdom would deliver a PH RBI double as the Cards would win 3-1 over the Reds.

Next up is a 3 game series in Milwaukee before the Cardinals have their home opener on Thursday against the Reds.

Cardinals place Roberto Osuna on 15 Day IL

RHP Roberto Osuna was placed on the 15 day IL after suffering back issues in the series opener against the Brewers.

Osuna was splitting closer duties with Diego Castillo.

Kodi Whitley was recalled from Memphis to fulfill the vacant spot.

I really enjoy reading everyone’s updates. I was playing the show 19 and really enjoyed it but recently picked up 21 and was blown away with the improved visuals facial expressions ect. I usually play a 30 team franchise but set two profiles up with everything on auto for the cpu teams and I usually just play with my rays but recently I started playing with some other teams that were struggling in their divisions. I play every 5th game and I have been using the rays, rangers, nationals, and pirates. I then decided to just control one team from every division so I added the Indians since it’s the last time I will be able to once they change their name to the idiotic guardians and then I tried to play with the diamondbacks but just couldn’t get into that team for some reason so I switched to the giants who are in the bottom of the nl west in 22. The show is really the only game I play anymore. Love the game! Love the community! Look forward to reading more posts!

                        Cardinals take series from Brewers

The Cardinals (4-2) took 2 out of 3 from the Brewers in Milwaukee as they now head home for their home opener.

Cardinals won Friday night's contest behind a solid pitching performance from Lance Lynn. Lynn went 7 innings giving up 3 runs on 6 hits and striking out 7. Lynn also contributed to the offense by delivering a 2 run double in the 5th that put the Cardinals up 4-2 that they would not give up. Paul DeJong and Nolan Arenado each delivered solo homeruns while Rafael Devers hit a 2 run double in route to the 6-3 victory.

Saturday afternoon Matthew Boyd got the ball as he returned to the Cardinals rotation and was solid over 6 innings striking out 4 while giving up a lone run on 7 scattered hits. Tommy Edman hit his first homerun of the year and Nolan Arenado extended his hit streak to 10 games going back to last year. Cardinals jumped all over Madison Bumgarner as they raced to 4 runs in the first inning and were leading 8-0 when Bumgarner left in the 4th. The Cards would go on to win 10-1.

Sunday provided the opportunity to sweep but the Cardinals were denied when Michael Wacha gave up a walk-off homerun in the 9th to Kyle Lewis. Jack Flaherty was going for his 2nd win of the year and was brilliant tossing 8 innings of 2 hit ball and not allowing a run. Flaherty struck out 12 while walking 2 and was 2 for 2 at the plate. Unfortunately, he was the lone bright spot of the offense as the Cardinals were blanked to a 1-0 loss.

The Cardinals will now head home for the first time as they open a 7 game homestand starting with the Reds on Thursday.

Cardinals place Jasson Dominguez on 10 Day IL

OF Jasson Dominguez has been placed on the 10 Day IL due to an ACL strain. Dominguez who is currently in Memphis after missing time in Spring Training due to injury, was injured in the 4th inning of the Redbirds season opener. He's expected to miss 3 weeks.

Dominguez was thought to be the new everyday centerfielder when he was acquired from San Diego 2 years ago, but injuries have really hampered his development with St.Louis.

The thought originally was to let Dominguez play a few weeks to a month in Memphis then recall him to the big leagues, but with this latest injury setback, I imagine the Cardinals will want him to get more at-bats and innings under his belt before making any sort of roster move to bring him to St.Louis.

Cardinals drop series to Reds in St.Louis

The Cardinals (5-4) dropped their first series of the year, as they lost 2 of 3 to the Reds in Busch Stadium. The Reds won the Cardinals home opener on Thursday with the Cardinals bouncing back to win Saturday, but were unable to win the rubber match on Sunday.

Nolan Arenado continues to swing a hot bat as he has now hit safely in each game this year.

The Cardinals will remain home as they welcome the Giants to town for a 4 game series starting Thursday.

Your franchise updates single handedly keep me playing this game all year long. I typically play most sports titles throughout the sports calendar and then its off to GS to send it on its way for a tiny bit of store credit. MLB The Show however keeps me engaged for months on end and I honestly think its because of this message board. I will switch up to Fifa, 2k or Madden even but I always find myself coming back to my MLB franchise and it's usually after reading 2 or 3 pages of your latest Cardinals updates. I will occasionally post in the board but I usually follow in your footsteps keeping track of my own franchise in an old fashion notebook. Just wanted to say I always look forward to this thread and love reading up on your updates. I think SD Studios has a lot of thanks to give to you as you keep fan engagement high all year long. I can't speak for everyone else in here, but I doubt I would play as much as I do without seeing what you have going on in your franchise day in and day out, in turn, giving me ideas for my own.

One last dynasty to start before MLB 22 comes out for me. Let's see what I can do with The Phillies or maybe Arizona.

I sincerely appreciate the kind words and following along as I ramble, err share, the goings on in my franchise.

I am, and have always been, a highly addicted baseball nut. I love everything about the game, played from t-ball through college and still try to play, but softball is likely more my style these days.

I don't watch movies, don't watch tv shows and live in the sticks so going to town for a night out is too far a drive...LOL!

So I play video games and easily over 95% of that is the Show. The other is typically with my son, but usually he's on one tv in the basement playing his Nintendo Switch and I'm on another playing the Show.

Sorry for rambling, but again I sincerely appreciate the kind words and thank you for following along.

Good luck on your next franchise and be sure to post updates as I love to read other's franchise updates because it not only gives me ideas..LOL...but its cool to see how rosters shake out in other franchises and how other people go about building their rosters.
