Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

The Pirates finished up August with a record of 52-80 19 GB of the division leading cubs and still in Last place in the division.

The Pirates bats have been better of late but the Pitching has been the thing that's struggled in certain areas.

Going into September the Pirates have decided to call up Dominique Gonzalez a generated MLB the show player with B Potential who was dominating in Triple A. We also have called up Francisco Mejia who was turning his hitting around.

    Hitting Studs:
    Clint Frazier .291 15 HR 57 RBI
    Kevin Newman .282 6 HR 42 RBI
    Brian Goodwin .274 15 HR 55 RBI

    Hitting Duds:
None! just the bench with Rickard and Difo hitting below .200

    Pitching Studs:
Michael Feliz 2.30 ERA 82 Innings pitched 1.33 Whip
Ty Buttrey 3.00 ERA 42 Innings Pitched 1.17 Whip

    Pitching Duds:
Chad Kuhl 6-15 4.85 ERA 137 Innings pitched 1.55 Whip
Mitch Keller 8-11 6.50 ERA 126 Innings pitched 1.87 Whip

    Notes:
Sent down Wilmer Difo and recalled Erik Gonzalez
Moved Mitch Keller to the pen and put Dominique in

Do you guys recommend playing with budgets off? I want to trade with the Dogers but can’t because of their budget. So they can never trade unless they go in the positive??

Its a personal preference, but I think alot do and just maintain budgets for themselves in their heads if they're hoping to keep realism alive. But this is something you have to start the franchise with. Can't change it midway through

Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

Not sure if this is better in the franchise thread or the stadium thread...

For those like me who want to use real minor league stadiums in their franchise, the 30 slots seems limiting with 60 MILB clubs between AAA and AA. However, the 2021 schedules are heavily regional. Every team only visits 5-9 other stadiums all year.

Check out your MILB schedules and make note of your away games, then download only those stadiums and you should need no more than 20 slots between both your affiliates. If you make the playoffs you can go grab the other 1-2 you might play.

This way you still have open slots for alternate MLB stadiums you might want.

Pearson right now on my roster (I just used current) is currently 64 overall, lol. I was going to up him but felt like it was cheating in a way, so he's in the minors right now. As for the 3 catchers, I plan to trade or send one down, probably going to be Reese McGuire, honestly.

JAYS SURPRISINGLY SWEEP YANKEES IN OPENING SERIES

              OPENING SERIES VS. YANKEES

The Blue Jays ended up actually sweeping the heavy favourite Yankees, with their offense coming to life and absolutely destroying the New York pitching staff. Game one saw the Jays winning 6-1, game two 13-8, and game 3 10-3.

              PLAYER OF THE SERIES

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (2 HR, 6 RBI, BA .385)

              PERFORMANCE OF THE SERIES

Hyun-Jin Ryu (Complete game, ERA 1.00, 20 strikeouts. Yep, you read that right, 20. He ties the MLB record for strikeouts in a game.)

I ended up playing half of game one, simulated game 2, and quick managed half of game 3 before hopping in to play the last 4 innings.

              UP NEXT

3 game series against the Texas Rangers.

Random question: Is there something that triggers the signature home run celebrations?

Acuña, Albies, Freeman and Ozuna all have them for me. Sometimes I get them when they homer and sometimes I get just a generic celebration.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

Been a while since updates...so brief roundup:

Cardinals split 4 game series with Mets

The Cardinals and Mets split their 4 game series in St.Louis alternating wins throughout. The Cards got a great series out of Tommy Edman who recorded 7 hits in the series. Unfortunately the bullpen wasn't consistent and cost the Cards one game of the series.

Cardinals win a series against the Rockies

After the offense sputtered against the Mets, the bats exploded against the Rockies to the tune of 9 homeruns in the 3 game series.

Cards take big series against Brewers

The Cardinals lost the series opener to the Brewers but bounced back to win Wednesday and Thursday to close to 4 games behind the Brewers. The Cardinals got great pitching in the series and just enough hitting to get 2 victories.

The Cardinals (20-18) will now travel to San Diego for a 3 game series with the Padres.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

The Pirates have finished the season 68-94 20 GB of the division leading Cubs and in last place in the division but not in the league!

Upside from this year was the consistency of the hitting and some great pitching performances. Downside was the inconsistency of the starters and some rough bullpen. Hoping to build on this year and turn it into a more competitive year next.

Going into the offseason I'll be looking to bring back most of the team and adding some pitching. Maybe a middle of the order power bat and a possible anchor in the rotation.

                        Stats:
                        C – Jacob Stallings .244 8 HR 46 RBI

Cubs Wrap Up: 2020 Presented by Jay

                            Opening Weekend Vs Pirates

After losing in extras on Opening Day and the early season off day, the Cubbies were back in action on Saturday looking to get the first win of the year. Jake Arrietta was on the bump for the Cubs as the Pirates had Chad Kuhl on the mound. Arrieta returned to the Cubs after 3 years in Philly where he did not post a ERA under 4.25. Jake is not the same pitcher as he was when he won the CY Young in ‘15 with the Cubs but hopes to recapture some of the magic as he tries to hold off father time.

Arietta got off to a fast start as he allowed only 2 hits through the first 4 innings of the game. Much like the first game of the season, The Cubs starter could not keep up the form as the game advanced into the 2nd half. Things started to go south as Arrieta gave up a solo home run to Brian Goodwin. The Cubs responded to tie the game in the bottom of the 5th. The wheels came completely off in the 6th as Arrieta found himself with the bases loaded and 2 outs. Jacob Stallings was able to keep the inning going as he hit a fly ball to right, Jason Heyward misplaced the ball which allowed 3 men to score. The Cubs would add one in the 8th but would go on to lose 5-2. It was a frustrating day for the Cubs on a day; they got on base well with 12 hits and 4 walks & out hit Pittsburgh, but could not put the hits together enough to add runs due to being too aggressive on the basepaths and untimely double plays.

In the Series finale the Cubs had Zach Davies on the mound looking to avoid a 3 game skid to start the year; he would face Steve Brault. The Pirates were able to get out to the early 1-0 lead but the Cubs came back to tie it in the 5th as Eric Sogard pinch hit and drove in a run. Davies would go 5 innings as he struck out 4 and only allowed the single run. With the game tied the Cubs turned to Shelby Miller in the 6th but he would struggle early on as he walked a batter and allowed 2 hits as Chicago gave back the lead. The Cubs would squander a few chances to bring the game back to even; including in the 8th when Danny Santana got a roar from the crowd as he took a 2-1 pitch to deep left center field; unfortunately with the wind blowing in the ball would lose steam and fall harmless on the warning track. The Cubs got a man on in the 9th but could not move him past second as they fell 1-2. Chicago begins the year on a 3 game losing streak; not the way they wanted to start, especially losing 3 to a Pittsburgh team not predicted to do much. The Cubs will be back in action tomorrow with the Brewers coming to town for 3 games.

We've now completed our first road trip and first homestand. After dropping the first two games of the season agains the Phillies, we reeled off nine straight wins before Sixto Sanchez shut us down. We're 10-3 and tied with the Mets for first in the East.

Hitting has been a struggle (and I love it!). The top of the order (especially Acuña and Freeman) are doing well, but the bottom (Swanson-Riley-CF) is really struggling. We're hitting .229 as a team. Pache was hitting just .107 so we optioned him to Gwinnett for some more seasoning. We recalled Heredia and he'll platoon with Inciarte in CF for now.

Pitching has been dominating. But our supposed best pitchers are the ones struggling the most. Fried's 5.40 ERA is worst among the starters. Anderson is 3-0 with a 1.50 ERA and Morton has a 0.69 ERA but no wins thanks to Martin blowing two leads in the 8th. Martin and Smith are the only relievers to give up runs so far. Although Smith has a 1.80 ERA and has converted all four of his save opportunities.
