Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

New to the show and baseball games. Being an xbox player, I was excited to see the show was on Game pass this year!

I started an A's franchise, and currently sitting at 6-5. I split the opening series against the Astros, lost 2 to 1 against the Dodgers, and won 2-1 against the Astros in their house.

Went up against the Diamondbacks, and just won 5-4 in extra innings, and sitting at 2nd place currently in the West.

After coming from Madden, I'm excited to actually play a Franchise that seems to have some depth to it, and look forward to diving even deeper into the season and mode.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

The Angels are just over halfway through the 2021 Spring (I play each and every game) and boy does this team have a lot of surprises.

The release of Albert Pujols left this team reeling heading into Tempe this Spring (waited for Ridin’s Rosters to get started with no changes) but surprisingly Kurt Suzuki (I KNOW RIGHT) stepped into that DH spot, currently hitting .437 with 3HRs and 5 RBIs in 32ABs, and that’s only when Shohei doesn’t DH (the team manager has a rule that Ohtani doesn’t DH the day before OR the day after he starts on the mound). Ohtani has had a slow start to his spring at the plate, but has started to warm up a bit, hitting .222 with 1HR and 2 RBIs in 18ABs.

Rendon is having a monster spring right now, leading the pack hitting .500 with 5HRs and 10RBIs in 38ABs, with J. Up (Upton) nearly as lethal behind Rendon in the 5 hole. Trout has been on a bit of a cold streak lately, still hitting .270 as of 37ABs, but was well over .400 at one point. Fletcher has been playing limbo with the Mendoza line as of late, but his bat is starting to wake up just in time for the season, currently hitting .225 in 40ABs. He was at .178 at a point this spring in the lead off spot (BRUH). The battle for RF has been a good one, with the veteran Dexter Fowler showing us why a CLASSIC is sometimes better than NEW HOTNESS, but Adell’s speed on the bases is giving him a run for his money (literally).

Surprisingly, Andrew Heaney has emerged as the ACE on the team, K-ing 24 in 16 innings pitched with Dylan Bundy not far behind. Heaney is scheduled to pitch Opening Day against the White Sox. While Shohei hasn’t had a terrible spring on the mound, the manager is not too impressed with Ohtani, who is currently in the 5 spot. It has been Shohei’s lack of control that is proving to be the issue, who in his last outing, threw 63 pitches on 3-innings of work. BIG OOF

Some house rules to be aware of. MLB implemented it’s extra inning change where each team begins it’s inning with a runner on second, but deferred it’s UNIVERSAL DH rule change until next year. League difficulty currently sits at ALL-STAR, with Commissioner Daniel implementing his own Dynamic Difficulty changes for the season, with both the league and the union agreeing to increase to HALL-OF-FAME by the beginning of May. Batting difficulty may increase before the season begins.

While the Angels GM and Manager have been working together since the MLB The Show 11 season, few team things to note. NORMAL swing for all batters with minor exceptions. Trout and Rendon are the only batters who can use a POWER swing, but only when the are up 3-0 or 3-1 in the count. All batters who have a DEAD BLUE strike zone will ONLY use a CONTACT swing. All batters with an average under .225 will use a contact swing. All pitchers with the exception of Ohtani will use a contact swing. ALL BATTERS ON A TWO-STRIKE COUNT will only bat using a contact swing.

The manager preaches patience at the plate at all times. The team rule is that if the team as a whole strikes out more than 5 times a game, each batter will owe 10 push-ups per strike out before they can play the next game. If a individual batter strikes out more than once, he will owe an extra 5 push-ups per strike out (30 push-ups for 2Ks). Because of this, the team does a team practice every day to work on patience and identifying pitches.

My FOMO is starting to set in...

Told myself I wasn’t going to wait on rosters this year so I could get an early start on my franchise, but now I’m starting to feel like I want to restart with the new rosters.

FYI I added Shogo, Kim, and the other few main guys missing

Am I deep in my franchise? No....12 games without getting into any real groove playing

Have I invested time into my dynasty page learning how to post photos, videos, etc...YES, I hate to throw away that work but I guess I could also view it as a trial run.

Part of me feels like I owe it to myself to keep going, but part of me feels like I won’t be able to fully focus with this bug in my ear constantly chirping about these new rosters. I feel like the time is now to decide whether to forge on or reset.

My question, is it worth it or not if I’m only planning on doing 1 maybe 2 seasons max?

IMO, if you're thinking about it, then you should do it.

If you were content with not using the rosters, you wouldn't even have the thought cross your mind. 12 games in, you're contemplating the idea of starting over with the rosters....I say you do it.

There is a good chance SDS will implement year to year saves in for next years game since they have to remove it for the move to next gen. If that’s the case carry over franchise will be the move

Question guys....how do you go about signing your draft picks or giving a context extension in franchise? I’m on Xbox so it’s been a while since I could play the game.

Do any of you guys that run 30-team control just turn CPU trades off? I'm thinking about doing that so that the ridiculous trades no longer occur. And I'd just make some trade between teams periodically that are realistic and contextual.

Also, in years past, assigning sponsorships could help with budgets. Is this still the case where we can assign platinum sponsorships to big market teams and just slivers to smaller ones?

I done that last year until July. I might turn trades and 40 man to manual so the CPU doesn’t DFA prospects.

Having an issue when starting a new franchise w/ ridin's rosters this morning. When I start, the active MLB roster is a 40-man and the CPU will promote the "injured" players like Eloy & Sale into the team's active roster to account for the open slots... As soon as I hit Regular Season start it cuts it to 26, but it leaves those guys in the active roster since they already got promoted. Game breaking issue...

Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

So in my Astros franchise I have traded Bregman, Verlander, Greinke, Altuve, Correa, and Brantley.

DISCLAIMER: I know these trades are terrible and would probably never happen, but I wanted to reset the Astros and build them my way.

Alex Bregman - traded to White Sox for P Garrett Crochet and C Yermin Mercedes

Verlander - traded to the Marlins for CF Connor Scott and C Brian Navarreto.

Greinke - traded to the Rangers for 2B Yonny Hernandez and C Jacob Travis.

Altuve - traded to the Padres for LF Ben Rita, SP Aaron Leasher, and 2B Matthew Batten.

Correa AND Brantley - traded to Indians for RP James Karinchak.

Ironically the Indians instantly DFA’d Brantley. Like I said in a previous post, I just used the trade finder and took the cheapest deal.

I’m going to build my team around Alvarez and Tucker. I’m going to use McCullers as my ace right now and hope some of my other pitchers can develop. I’ll obviously be looking to completely rebuild my infield. If any of my first basemen can show some progress this year I will probably end up trading Yuli before the deadline.

Right now I’m going through Spring Training and figuring out my starting roster.

Have you guys seen an increase in in game injuries? In MLB 20 I had one in game injury the entire game. Now in two days of playing 21 ive had 2 in game injuries already. Have you guys seen this as well?

Edit: Just got my 3rd in game injury

So the sponsorships are now locked behind cards that, if you don’t happen to have them, must be purchased with stubs. Ugh. So lame.

I use the method that is on Armor’s thread for sponsorships. I do not play DD at all and only earn XP from franchise or exhibition games. I sold some of my players that I got from the early release bundle. I had enough to purchase what I need to fill all teams with his method and have multiples of each so I can mix it up. It is the same as last year how you get them.

Decided to not roll with my Indians and roll with the Padres. Wanted to have to strategize working around pitchers in the lineup.

Super excited to play with Tatiana JR & Machado.

I also didn’t know they had 11-14 in the MLB top 50.

                                Should be a fun ride!
