Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

Put most of this in the trade thread but it fits here too

    Marlins franchise

    Before 2022 season:
Elieser Hernandez to CWS for Zack Collins
Jorge Alfaro and Joe Panik to STL for Jordan Hicks

About 3 weeks into the season, was in last place in the division

Traded Magneuris Sierra to DET for Jose Cisnero

That allowed me to call up JJ Bleday and he has been killing it. The season turned around from that point. Managed to rail off a 15 game winning streak at one point in late May. Now in the first week of June and 1 game behind ATL for 1st. Hicks leads the NL in saves

Looking to trade Jesus Aguilar and Pablo Lopez for either a big name 1B or CF. I’d then call up Max Meyer to take Lopez’s spot in the rotation.

    C- Collins/Jackson
    1B - Aguilar/Diaz
    2B - Chisholm
    3B - Anderson
    SS - Rojas
    LF - Sanchez
    CF - Brinson
    RF - Bleday
Util - Berti / Leury Garcia / De La Cruz (OF)

    Rotation:
    Rogers/Alcantarra/Lopez/Sanchez/Cabrera
    Bullpen:
    Thompson (LR)/Cisnero/Diekman/Bender
    Setup:
    Floro/Bleier
    Closer:
    Hicks

Trying to keep it as realistic as possible. Some weird cpu moves in the off-season though. Freddie Freeman went to Toronto. Bregman and Posey went to ATL. Baez signed with CWS

Cardinals take opening series against Brewers

The Cardinals (2-1) took two out of three against the Brewers to open up the 2023 season.

The Cardinals lost on Opening Day as Jack Flaherty struggled and the bats were non-existent against Brandon Woodruff as the Cardinals lost 6-0.

Saturday's game saw Dakota Hudson leave in the first inning with a fractured wrist and the Cards turned to Kwang Hyun Kim who was slated to start Monday to pitch instead. Kim ended up with the win as the Cards bats were on point with 8 runs on 11 hits. Nolan Arenado hit his 299th career homerun in the 6th inning of this game.

Sunday was a pitching duel as Jake Odorizzi and Corbin Burnes went pitch for pitch, but Odorizzi would earn the victory in a 1-0 shutout. Odorizzi went 6 innings striking out 3. The lone RBI came off the bat of Tyler O'Neill who went 3 for 3 in the game and has easily been the offensive bright spot through the first 3 games.

The Cardinals will now host the Reds (3-0) on Monday. Charlie Morton will make his Cardinal debut on Monday.

      April Schedule:

      3 vs CIN
      3 @ SD
      3 @ LAD
      3 vs MIN
      3 vs SD
      3 @ MIL

Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

Made it to the break with the Braves at 48-42. Unfortunately the Mets are 59-31 and just got Lindor and Nimmo back. So, it's a tough road back. Freddie Freeman beat Ronald Acuña in the finals of the Home Run Derby, so at least there's that. Final game of the first half saw Huascar Ynoa go down for the year with a torn rotator cuff. Apparently that series against the Marlins is cursed, but at least Acuña made it out healthy (unlike real life). Drew Smyly is going to take his spot in the rotation for now; he had been a long man in the pen and had pitched pretty well in the role.

Freeman and Ozzie were both All-Stars for me. Acuña missed the cut, but he's bounced back. After being under a .180 average for the fist two months, he's up over .240 and is up to 28 home runs. Adam Duvall went out for the year, and Eddie Rosario has missed a handful of games too, so Cristian Pache has gotten called up and I think will stay up for now when Rosario comes of the the IL.

Cardinals drop series to Reds..shutout twice

The Cardinals (3-3) dropped their first series of the season losing 2 of 3 to the Reds.

The Cardinals were dominated in the series opener on Monday when Charlie Morton was blitzed for 6 earned runs on 10 hits in just 4 innings of work. The bullpen didn't do much better as the Reds went on to win 11-0 over the Cardinals.

Tuesday the script flipped as Carlos Martinez went 6 innings without allowing a run and giving up just 4 hits, in route to his first victory of the season. The Cardinals bats woke up as Tyler O'Neill plated 5 RBI's including 2 homeruns, as the Cardinals were victorious 10-2 when the final out was made.

Wednesday's afternoon series finale saw a pitcher's duel between Luis Castillo and Jack Flaherty, but unfortunately Flaherty would receive his 2nd loss of the year after his offense failed to score a run in a 1-0 shutout.

The Cardinals have been shutout 3 times in their first 6 games which is concerning. Another concern is injuries as both Paul DeJong and Tommy Edman landed on the IL during this series.

The Cardinals are off on Thursday as they travel to San Diego to face the Padres (5-2) for a 3 game weekend series.

Paul DeJong and Tommy Edman on 10 Day IL

Paul DeJong (hamstring) and Tommy Edman (lat strain) both landed on the 10 day IL during the series against the Reds. Both are expected to return in 2 weeks.

Nick Dunn and Edmundo Sosa were recalled from Memphis to fulfill the roster spots. Marwin Gonzalez is expected to start at shortstop and Nick Dunn will likely get the everyday 2nd baseman duties until Edman returns.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

Been plodding along. I ended up starting a franchise with Seattle and been loving the first month. Only two minor trades were made, IF/OF Jorge Mateo from the orioles and C Dom Nunez from the rockies.

... it's been really fun & super competitive. in the last two games, one against the Chisox and the other against the Twins Dom Nunez has been channelling his inner Jorge Posada.

With a 2R walk off HR to give us a 2-1 series victory over the Chisox. The blast came off Hendricks who was closing out the game with a 4-3 lead, 2-outs and 2 strikes. And Hendricks inexplicably put one over the middle of the plate at the knees where Nunez was waiting.

I've never hit a walk off homer off an A+ closer before.

Next game top of the 6th and down 2-nil to the Twins. Bases loaded Nunez hit the same middle at the knees fastball over the RF wall for a grand salami!

First ever grand salami i've ever hit. In those situations i must have been 0 from 78 chances, until Nunez slammed it. haha

After all these years of playing the Show, I'm still racking up firsts.

The Mariners are tied with the A's for first with Houston 1.5 games back. A few injuries have hit us hard in the last week. Losing starter James Paxton and the closest thing to an ace we have -- so traded away closer Giles and a Prospect for SP Tajaun Walker and then traded RP Steckinrider to the Phillies for Hector Neris, who now becomes my closer.

I've always pitched amazing with Neris, just love his windup and that crippling splitfinger he throws, and Steckinrider's motion despite him on paper being the better pitcher, i couldn't get to work.

Hoping Walker can step up and be my ace, otherwise i might have to dig into a few of our prized prospects and bring in a legit ace in the coming month.

The goal is to take the Mariners to the world series

PIRATES TAKE TWO OF THREE IN CINCINNATI

After being swept by Chicago to start the season, the Pirates responded by taking 2 of 3 against the Reds in Cinci.

In game one, Gregory Polanco hit the teams first HR of the season, a solo shot off of Luis Castillo to put the Pirates ahead, but Mike Moustakas hit a walk off two run HR off of Chris Stratton.

The Pirates would win the next two, 5-1 and 10-5. The highlight came in game three when rookie 2B Rodolfo Castro hit his first career HR off of Sonny Gray.

The club is 2-4 and will be facing the Cubs in a three game set at home, just days after being swept by them in Wrigley.

                    Cardinals drop series to Padres

The Cardinals (4-5) dropped their 3 game series with the Padres over the weekend.

Another series where the bats were non-existent, so much to the point the Cardinals were no-hit on Friday.

Saturday the Cards were competitive but the bullpen couldn't keep them in the lead nor in the game as they ended up losing 8-3.

The Cards avoided the sweep on Sunday by winning 4-0 in 10 innings. Tyler O'Neill and Harrison Bader both hit 2 run homeruns in the Top of the 10th to secure the win. Alex Reyes struck out the side in the bottom of the 10th.

The Cardinals will now travel to Los Angeles for a 3 game series with the Dodgers (7-2). After that its a day off on Thursday to head back home to face the Twins this weekend.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

Dom Nunez continues to rake. it's the most unexplainable thing i've ever seen. his 40-something contact and 50-something power continues to dazzle.

After his back-to-back walk off homer and grandslam games, he put up a double HR performance and a 4-4 hit game in his next two. He leads the team with 7HR and 15RBIs through the first month.

The mariners just ended a 3 game set against the Astros. The astros stormed to an 9-nil win in game one, then seattle bounced back and after going down 3-nil after the first inning used a 5 run 6th inning to win 6-3.

The final game was a barn burner. Astros raked 8 runs over the first three innings and were up 9-2 going into the 9th.

Seattle got a solo HR to start the 9th. Then single, HBP and a walk to load the bases before the astros turned to their closer Pressely.

A line drive into RF from Kyle Seager made the score 9-4, then Mitch Haniger reached the deep centre wall clearing the bases to make it 9-8 with no outs. Jorge Mateo bloobed a single, and the Toro struck out looking on a ball that was miles off the base. Mateo stole and moved into second and then Kyle Lewis popped out to the catcher. JP walked then a wild pitch advanced runners into 2nd and 3rd.

Enter Dom Nunez with the winning run in scoring position, bottom of the 9th. 2 balls- strikes and after fouling off three pitches, he line drove a laser (with perfect contact no less) to the deep right centre wall where their outfielder catches the ball at the wall to rob Seattle of another walk off HR and victory.

the show just keeps giving these moments.

Seattle are still in a tie for first with the A's, but now Houston are just half a game back.

                        Cardinals swept by Dodgers

The Cardinals (4-8) were swept by the Dodgers in Chavez Ravine.

An ugly series for the offense as hitting was just atrocious all 3 games.

The Cardinals are in last place in major offensive categories; strikeouts, average, OBP, OPS

Team really needs to find a spark somewhere. Hopefully they can find it against the Twins with Tommy Edman and Paul DeJong returning from the IL.

Next up is 3 at Busch against the Twins (8-4)

Cardinals bounce back to take series against Twins

The Cardinals (6-9) bounced back to take the series against Twins.

The Cardinals won Friday behind another stellar performance on the mound from Jake Odorizzi who went 7 innings giving up 1 ER on 4 hits and striking out 5. He didn't allow a walk. The offense wasn't overly impressive, but did enough to win pushing across 4 runs behind the bat of Tyler O'Neill who has easily been the most consistent and productive bat in the lineup.

On Saturday, Charlie Morton pitched well enough to get the win, but Roberto Osuna's 8th inning blow up allowed the Twins to push across 3 to tie the game at 4. Alex Reyes would get through the 9th and Harrison Bader would single home pinch runner Justin Toerner to give the Cards the 5-4 lead they would hang on to. Daniel Norris would pitch a perfect 10th, striking out the side to secure the win.

Sunday wasn't the best of days as Carlos Martinez had to leave the game due to injury in the 2nd. The bullpen tried to keep the team in the game but just couldn't do it as the Cards would fall 9-2. Once again the offense sputtered with Dylan Carlson and Paul Goldschmidt driving in the only runs. Hansel Robles who was recalled from Memphis during the series face just 3 hitters in the 8th, gave up 4 runs and never recorded an out.

The Cardinals are off on Monday as they await the arrival of the Padres for a 3 game series at Busch. Crazy to think the Cards and Padres will play their entire season series in April.

                            Remaining April Schedule:

                            3 vs SD

A heartbreaker to end my season. Lost the ALDS 3 games to 1 to CWS after a 99 win season. They took both games in NY, a 12 inning 3-2 win in Game 1 and took Game 2 6-4. Won Game 3 in Chicago 6-5 on some clutch hitting after the Loaisiga blew it in the 8th. Thought I had Game 4 with Chapman on the mound and a 4-3 lead in the 9th. With a runner on third and 2 outs.. a strike away from going to Game 5, a broken bat bloop single into shallow CF to tie it. Loaisiga again gives up a single and then the walk off to Engel. The bullpen as a whole really let me down this series but credit to Chicago’s hitters. Tough ending after winning the AL East by 16 games and taking the 1 seed in the AL.

I know it’s a video game but still feels pretty crappy after spending probably 8-12 hours a week on this since late April. Love the game though and love the journey

Just simmed through postseason and the Wild Card Chicago team would roll through a sweep of the Astros in the ALCS, scoring 23 runs and shutting out Houston in 3 of the 4.. wow. They’d win the first two of WS against STL before STL would win the next four to be the champions!!

Great storytelling and major heartbreak… I feel for you.
