Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

Man I gotta admit, I'm having a real hard time getting invested again this offseason because of losing my initial save file.

I'm so frustrated and aggravated that I can't "enjoy" what's happening because I keep thinking of what was, and that this player was on that team etc....

And TBH I really didn't want to add Rizzo, only did so to try to spark excitement. In fact I made a few moves that I didn't previously to try to interject change to get back into it.

I really don't know what to do at the moment.

    Damn....
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

        September 27, 2020 | CHICAGO, IL

In a season that's been filled with so much excitement and offensive production it was fitting that the Chicago Cubs would end the 2020 campaign in style. Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth, Willson Contreras smashed a two-run, walk-off homer off of Cardinals closer Giovanny Gallegos, sending the fans at Wrigley Field into a frenzy as the Cubs topped the Cardinals, 4-3. The win completed a three-game sweep over their long-time rivals and marked the fifth consecutive win to end the year.

"It's had this atmosphere pretty much all year," said Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo after the game. "It's been exciting to be a part of a club like this and we're not done yet."

With the win the Cubs, who clinched the National League central division title earlier this month, finish the year 104-58. The Cubs will have home field advantage in the National League Divisional Series when they take on the Atlanta Braves.

          2021 Baltimore Orioles Offseason review

Orioles sign Correa, trade for Taijuan Walker

The Baltimore Orioles biggest signing of the offseason period was Carlos Correa who is now 27 years old and arguably the best player on the team. He is set to spend the next five years in Baltimore, making 28.0 million a year.

The Orioles also agreed to a trade with the New York Mets which led to the team acquiring Taijuan Walker who will act as the teams number one starter.

Finally, aside from resigning most of the teams players from last year, Baltimore was able to replace Cesar Valdez at closer with Jake Diekman who signed a two year deal worth 1.7 Million a year.

Other Notable free agent signings around the league

Cubs sign Trevor Story 29 YO 92 OVR SS
Braves Sign Brad Hand 32 YO 86 OVR CP
Rockies sign Noah Syndergaard 28 OVR 90 OVR SP 5 yr 148.5 M
          Dodgers sign Freddie Freeman 32 YO 95 OVR 1B 7 year 133.7 M
Rockies sign Starling Marte 33 YO 85 OVR CF 1 yr 15.2 m
Angels sign Kiby Yates 35 YO 88 OVR CP
Angels sign Micahel Conforto 29 YO 88 OVR RF 5 yr 103.0 M
Giants sign Corey Kluber 35 YO 86 OVR SP 1 yr 23.3 M

**Im terrible at the offseason stuff...I just start offering guys with out really knowing what the effects will be on the budget. I did initially resign John Means but was set to be in the red budget wise so I traded him to the White Sox for some prospects.

I also released Chris Davis who was set to make 22 M in AA this year...I believe I had to pay 17 M since he was not claimed but not sure if that helped the budget or hurt it...haha well heres for year two. I dont play spring training so 2022 Season preview will be next.

***CB im sorry that your frustrated but I hope you can continue. We all love reading about your Cardinals.

Ok so this morning, actually last night driving home from the UofL football game, I decided that I'm going to get up this morning, grab my coffee and re-start my offseason sticking to the plan that I had originally and stop trying to interject excitement by doing signings and trades that I really wasn't wanting to just to try to spark some excitement into the offseason after the erased save debacle.

So as silly as it may be, I went through and deleted any backup save files except for the end of the season and points prior and even deleted any post that had to do with signings/roster movement in my failed offseason attempts.

So with all that said, and nobody probably cares..LOL, I am re-starting my franchise with my plan next to me (yes I keep a notebook of plans for roster for the next few years) and am rolling. I'm done missing time playing the game because I'm hung up on something I can't fix and trying to veer away from how I normally play to be a fix to my not being able to fix it.

2022/2023 offseason upcoming. Thanks for entertaining me by reading and pretending its a big deal...LOL

Cardinals re-sign Daniel Norris to 5 year deal

The Cardinals and LHP Daniel Norris have agreed to a 5 year $32.50M deal with a player option for the 5th year.

The 29 year old was instrumental in the Cards success last year helping make the bullpen a strength for the club that won the NL Central. Norris pitched 67.2 innings with 53 strikeouts and a 2.66 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP

Norris will once again anchor the backend of a bullpen that will have Alex Reyes and the Cards are hopeful to get Roberto Osuna to re-sign this offseason as well.

Cardinals re-sign Robert Osuna to 5 year deal

The Cardinals and Roberto Osuna agreed to a 5 year $115M deal with a player option for the 5th year yesterday.

The 28 year old Osuna agreed to the deal that will keep the back end of the bullpen solid for the next 4 seasons, as Osuna joins Norris (signed) and Reyes (team control next 4 years). With the backend solidified this early, the Cards can now focus on building the depth that lacked last year.

Osuna was phenomenal last year pitching 52 innings to the tune of a 0.52 ERA and 0.67 WHIP while recording 56 strikeouts against just 10 walks. Osuna will again serve as the closer in waiting should anything happen to Reyes, such as injury like last year.

Big time signings for the Cards this early in the off-season.

                        Cardinals re-sign Hansel Robles

The Cardinals and RHP Hansel Robles have agreed to a one year $1.7M deal.

Robles didn't have the best of seasons in 2022, pitching 56.2 innings to the tune of a 4.45 ERA and 1.38 WHIP. But the 32 year old had success in 2021 being an reliable arm in the bullpen and the Cards are hopeful that Robles can find that form in 2023.

Robles will undoubtedly provide depth the bullpen in 2023.

Cardinals and Yadier Molina agree to one year deal

The Cardinals and Molina agreed to a one year $5M deal.

The 40 year old Molina thought about retirement again after last season, but decided he wants one more run at another World Series championship. Molina also agreed to not be the everyday backstop on 2023 and if he's beat out for the backup spot in Spring Training he will retire.

Having Molina back as a mentor to Caratini and the younger catchers on the roster, as well as young arms, should prove beneficial if it is indeed only for Spring Training.

Cardinals Scherzer, Carpenter, Gonzalez, and Gallo hit free agency

The Cardinals have a few exclusive free agents that will be hitting the open market.

Max Scherzer, Marwin Gonzalez, Matt Carpenter, and Joey Gallo all hit the open market yesterday by electing free agency. The Cards only made offers to Scherzer (1yr/$7M) and Gallo (3yrs/$85.5M) during the exclusive period, allowing Carpenter and Gonzalez to freely hit the market to see their worth.

The Cards expected Scherzer and Gallo to both refuse to sign their respective offers and hit free agency, but at least the Cards made both aware they would like to have both back for the 2023 season.

Free agency has officially begun and there are quite a few big names out there. Will be interesting to see what the Cards do to not only repeat as NL Central champions, but get deeper into October baseball.

                              Padres sign Aaron Nola

It didn't take long for the top starting pitcher on the market to get scooped up as the Padres signed Aaron Nola to a 9 year $190.4M deal.

The 29 year old was 11-9 last year with the Phillies throwing 203.1 innings to the tune of a 3.19 ERA and 201 strikeouts. The year prior Nola threw 218 innings to 2.56 ERA with 221 strikeouts.

The Padres are no doubt looking to return the postseason and adding Nola is a step in the right direction.

Cardinals and Tyler O'Neill agree to deal avoiding arbitration

The Cardinals and Tyler O'Neill agreed to a 2 year $12M deal that will buy out the final two years of O'Neill's arbitration years.

The 27 year old hit .240 last year but had career highs in homeruns (22) RBI's (56) Walks (70) OBP (.340) doubles (27) and hits (106)

O'Neill still strikes out more than the staff would like, but his strikeout percentage was a career low at 24.9%.

O'Neill will be the everyday left fielder and the Cards are hopeful that his bat continues to catch up to his defensive abilities.

Cardinals re-sign Joey Gallo to 2 year deal

The Cardinals needed a left handed power bat in this lineup. The Cardinals got their left handed power bat.

The Cardinals and Joey Gallo agreed to a 2 year $60M contract that will pay the 29 year old slugger $28M this year and then $32M next year. But there is also a mutual option on this contract so either party can decide to part ways after the 2023 season, should either one feel this fit isn't working out.

With Gallo signed the Cardinals now have other decisions to make in regards to their roster (Dylan Carlson), but for now, they'll bask in the sunlight as they landed the left handed bat this lineup needed desperately, and can now move forward this offseason putting more pieces together to repeat as NL Central division champions.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
