Angels sign both Aaron Judge and Jose Berrios

The Angels aren't messing around as they look to get back to the postseason.

The Angels have signed RF Aaron Judge (8yr/$248M) and SP Jose Berrios (4yr/$73.6M) contracts.

The 30 year old Judge heads back home to California after spending his entire big league career in the Bronx in pinstripes. Judge hit .288 last year with 37 homeruns and 99 RBI's and will provide a huge punch to a lineup that already has Mike Trout, Anthony Rendon, Jorge Soler, Shohei Ohtani, and Jared Walsh as big boppers.

Jose Berrios, 28, will likely be the ace of the staff as Ohtani continues to struggle pitching. Berrios who spent all his 6 seasons with the Twins, was 12-5 last year with a 3.40 ERA in 190.1 innings pitched.

The Angels are quickly putting together a team that will contend in the AL West, especially if they can improve their bullpen which hurt them last year.

Phillies lose Nola in free agency but gain Luis Severino and Mike Clevinger

Phillies' fans were sad to see Aaron Nola sign elsewhere (Padres) and know that Zach Eflin is still on the open market, but the organization didn't stand by and lick their wounds as they quickly signed Luis Severino and Mike Clevinger to deals to replace what they lost.

    Severino, 28, signed a 5 year $94.5M deal and Clevinger, 31, signed a 4 year/$92M deal.

Severino was 13-7 last year with the Yankees pitching 196.1 innings with a 3.53 ERA and 203 strikeouts. Clevinger was 7-6 with the Padres pitching 133.2 innings with a 3.97 ERA and 150 strikeouts.

They will join Zack Wheeler to provide a dominant top 3 in the rotation for the Phillies in 2023.

I'm using a Pirates relocated franchise. Hadn't played Cincinnati since June and they were in last place but I noticed they have been gaining in the standings for some time. Just started a series with them and I see why they are improved. They acquired Vladimir Guerrero Jr for a mid level starting pitcher and a top notch relief pitcher.

Unless they get stupid and trade him away they will be a force in the division.

Current top 5 in the batting order:

      Merrifield
      Starling Marte
      Guerrero
      Castellanos
      Winkler

Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

Going start again with the Rockies of Colorado ... but with a little twist. I'm going to start with a premium pitcher and position player. But not wanting to weaken any teams, i'll do things a little different.

I've always wanted to use Mike Trout but never had the chance. So i traded for Jo Adell, an athletic 21 yr old, 6'2" 215lbs.

I gave him Trout's stance and animations and all of his rookie year stats. I figure he'd be the perfect player to build an entire franchise around.

Then i grabbed Tom Eshelman in a trade from the Orioles farm system and gave him my fav pitcher's animations and stats, Kevin Gausman.

A couple of minor deals too.

          Relivers

          Tanner Scott
          Heath Hembree

          and infielder Thairo Estrada.

After Spring training, with no real injury concerns, the Rockies welcome the defending World Series champion Dodgers to town.

Max Scherzer will take the mound against Tom Eshelman.

Last and only time i've ever faced Scherzer he shut me out with 10 strikeouts. lol

Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

            Opening day lineup:

            RF Tapia
            2B Estrada
            CF Adell
            1B McMahon
            SS Story
            LF Blackmon
            3B Ruiz
            C Nunez
            P Eshelman

Scherzer gave a lead off walk to Tapia before striking out Estrada on 4 pitches.

Jo Adell first at bat in a Rockie uniform, after seeing Scherzer throw mulitple fastballs up in the zone set his sights high and first pitch, middle cut high.

            A 2-run shot to deep centerfield (453ft)

The game settled in, as Eshelman struck out 5 of the first 9 dodgers. Before Charlie Blackmon, sitting on a high fastball made it 3-nil in the 4th and then 4-nil in the 6th with another solo shot.

Entering the 7th inning and with only 66 pitches under his belt Eshelman went to work. He walked the leadoff, hit the number two and then in literally his only mistake he left a 2-seam fastball over the plate and Mookie Betts sent it into the 2nd level in RF.

            4-3

for Daniel Bard to finish the inning.

Tanner Scott gave up 2 hits but got out of a bases loaded jam striking out Bellinger before Hembree pitched a clean 9th for the save and close out the game.

It was hectic, and had a playoff feel as you can't make a mistake to that lineup.

Next up German Marquez takes on Kershaw.

Dude I'm sorry to hear that.

I did something similar a week or so ago. Sucks

Thankfully I had a backup although I lost quite a bit of progress.

nope, not my season progress or my roster. lesson learned.

                      the roster hurts most.

so many hours updating windups, stretches, stances, animations, game day equipment etc

i think conservatively, i'd spent about 20 dd hours tinkering with my roster. Not changing any stats, just getting them as real to life as i could.

so many windups and stances are incorrect, with much better animations available.

                      bit of a baseball geek.

Cardinals add depth to bullpen with 2 signings

The Cardinals have added depth to their bullpen with 2 signings yesterday.

Adam Kolarek signed a 1 year $530K deal and Dominic Leone signed a 1 year $1.7M deal.

Kolarek, 34, is left handed and pitched for the A's last year throwing 40.1 innings to the tune of 3.35 ERA and 1.21 WHIP. Kolarek isn't overpowering, but his crafty with his makeup and gets batters out.

Dominic Leone hasn't pitched in the majors for 2 years, but has made progress with the Mariners organization. Leone is 30 years old and possesses a good fastball, cutter, slider combination. It's expected that Leone, who pitched for the Cardinals in 2018 and 2019 will likely be sent to minor league spring training, but we'll see how things play out over the next several weeks of the offseason.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

man the dodgers are tough. almost cheating.

Took the first game 4-3, and somehow, still not quite sure how, won the 2nd game 1-nil with my starter only lasting 4 innings and fatiguing after 72 pitches.

The third game was nil-all after 4 tight and stressful innings with Walker Buehler and German Marquez going inning for inning. The only difference was Beuhler had only pitched 36 balls compared to Marquez's 65.

Then in the 5th in the blink of any the dodgers were up 4-nil. A bloop, walk, HBP and then AJ Pollock on the first pitch he saw, a down in the zone breaking ball (which i timed the release & location on perfectly) got lifted over the RF wall.

Managed to claw back a couple runs to make it 4-2 going into the 9th, when the Dodgers blew it open, batted round and there was nothing i could do except stop the bleeding.

Down 8-2, I did manage a solo HR with my catcher Dom Nunez, but this one was over. Final score 8-3.

The fourth and final game, I could still come out of this series with 3 wins. but nope.

Urias shut me down and had a no hitter through seven innings before i broke through and eeked out two runs.

But the dodger machine was in full swing on offense. and I lost that one 7-2.

IN all the games it was number 7 hitter Justin Turner who hurt me. You make it through the heart of that lineup just for this askhole to be at 7 and rake on you. haha

Turner finished the series batting .475 and with 3HR's and 9RBI's :facepalm

Now the Rockies move onto Arizona, where our hitters can hopefully find some form, as i don't think the pitching has been bad. Just a couple mistakes here and there and coming against a lineup that bats 1 to 8 and can hurt you.

I recently dropped 2 of 3 to the Dodgers too. Beat Kershaw in Game 1 3-2, but got beat 17-1 across the next two games only managing 8 hits. Max Scherzer threw a 3 hit complete game shutout of me. They're tough.
