Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

Fired up the most recent Twins roster and decided to go full rebuild. Traded away Donaldson and Sano. Putting the youngsters to the rest — Royce Young is still in AAA.

So far Buxton is hitless through 3 games. I can’t hit with the guy for some reason. Strong pitching performance through first 3 games. Defense is stellar. Need to find some speed and 1 more bat. Sad when Garver and Kepler are your power hitters.

2-1 so far with the final game with the Astro coming up. Yordan Alvarez has gone yard in each of the 3 games—I’m going to bran the guy next at bat.

Just had a great game where I was beating the Dodgers 10-3 in the bottom of the eighth… then my power went off. Ugh!

Braves take 2 out of 3 from the Phillies!
We started off the homestand on a great note. Bats were productive, run production was up. Starting pitching went well.

Game 1: Fried vs. Matt Moore. Although Max(2-2) got knock around by giving 3ER on 10H, but he K'd 10. Albies, Ozuna(2RHR,3RBI) and Swanson(2RHR,2RBI) all homered. We won 7-3!

Game 2: Ian Anderson vs. Falter. Anderson improver to 3-2 on the year, hurling 7.0IP,2H,2R,2ER,0BB & 12K... We knocked Falter around for 4ER, in 5.0IP. Freeman went 2 for 4, HR & 2RBI. We won 5-4!

Game 3: Ynoa vs. Wheeler. We was no match for Wheeler. He held us to 1ER,7.1IP on 8H, but we struck out once vs. him. Ynoa pitched well enough to went. He went 6.1IP,3H,2R,2ER,1BB & 8K. Our bats just couldn't produced clutch hits. We lost 5-1!

We now sit 18-16 on the year. We 3rd in the NL East, 2.0GB of the 1st place Marlins(20-14). Up next is the Blue Jays(16-18) for a 3 game set. We got swept by them 7 days ago, so it was fresh butt kicking. I owe them something. For us we got Morton(2-2,3.03ERA & 43K), Soroka our "Ace of the staff"(4-1,44.0IP,41K & 2.25ERA) and Fried (2-2,47.2IP,53K & 2.27ERA) on the mound, so I like our chances.

I had one going from release week using the original 1st rosters, and was in 22, but lost interest and hadn't played it in months. Did too well as well in 21 lol.
Well I did it, been playing here and there, doing critical situations and simulating and ended up tying the Braves last game of the season.

Hosting 1 game playoff for the NL East now, playing it as we speak!

McNeil and Rich Hill are now added to list as lost for the season, so we will see how we can do here and if we end up making the playoffs, from there too

Just finished the offseason. For the Mets:
              • Cano Retired/Miggy Retired - HOF
              • Joe McEwing Hired as Hitting Coach
              • Resigned Marcus Stroman 5 years/68 million
              • Resigned Javy Baez 3 years /93 Million
              • Signed Chris Taylor 2 years/18.6 million
              • Signed Miguel Rojas 2 years/7.4 million
              • Nimmo - 4 year 48.7 million ext
              • Conforto back on qualifying offer
              • Dom Traded to Tampa for Josh Lowe and Peter Fairbanks

My goal was to build a team that was more offensively consitent and better defensively. Taylor was my top target along with signing Baez. Right now, McNeil is sort of blocked with Confoto Returning, but those things have a way of sorting themselves out.

Nimmo, Javy, Pete, Lindor are shaping up to be my core, with Lowe, Baty, Alvarez and Mauricio waiting in the wings to take over CF/RF, 3B, 2b/3B and Catcher in the future

Pitching wise, I also brought back Hill, who will get the first shot at the 5th SP spot over peterson and megill. Fairbanks and Poche (I got poche in the Rule 5) will help the BP, and let Drew Smith get more time in the minors.

All in all, a successful offseason, and good riddance Robinson Cano!

Cardinals place Joey Gallo on 10 Day IL

The Cardinals have placed OF Joey Gallo on the 10 Day IL due to a flexor strain. Gallo is expected to miss right around 2 weeks with the injury.

Gallo was acquired on the last day of the trade deadline as the Cardinals were in desperate need of a left handed hitting power bat. Gallo struggled when he first arrived in St.Louis going 0 for 19 with 14 strikeouts, but has since gotten comfortable and was on a 5 game hitting streak when he suffered the injury. In fact, in his last 10 games, Gallo has hit in 9 of those 10 with 4 homeruns, 2 doubles and 9 RBI's.

Justin Toerner was recalled from Memphis to fulfill the roster vacancy. It's likely Toerner will stay in St.Louis as Gallo will not return before roster expansion on September 1st.

                    August 21, 2020 | CHICAGO, IL

Kris Bryant hit a pair of homers Friday afternoon, including a three-run walk-off shot in the bottom of the 13th inning as the Cubs downed their Central Division rivals St. Louis Cardinals at Wrigley Field. Dan Winkler earned the win for the Cubs, tossing scoreless innings in the top of the 12th and 13th, striking out three batters. Winkler improves to 4-5 on the year out of the pen.

Andrew Miller took the loss for the Cardinals, recording just one out in the bottom of the 13th. Jason Heyward led off the top of the 13th with a single. Dan Winkler laid down a bunt following the Heyward single when Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt attempted to get the lead runner at second unsuccessfully, allowing the first two batters of the inning to reach safely. Ian Happ struck out on the next at-bat but Bryant picked his teammate up with a towering shot that landed in the left-center field bleachers.

Bryant homered earlier in the bottom of the fifth when he smashed a two-run homer onto Waveland Avenue. Bryant's two home runs were his 23rd and 24th of the year.

Cubs closer Craig Kimbrel was unable to secure the save after the Cubs took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the eighth. Cardinals outfielder Harrison Bader led off the top of the ninth with a double and reached third on a wild pitch by Kimbrel. Kimrel struck out Kolten Wong for the first out of the inning but a sacrifice fly one batter later by Justin Toerner brought home the tying run.

"It's was an exciting game all around," said Kris Bryant in a post-game interview. "We're getting closer to October baseball and you can feel the buzz in the air. Plus any time we play against a rival it's always a fun game, regardless of the standings."

The Cubs will look to win the three game series when they take the field against the Cardinals tomorrow. Kyle Hendricks (12-5, 4.15) will be on the mound for the Cubs. The Cardinals will send Dakota Hudson (8-7, 4.15) to the bump looking to even the series.

                      August 22, 2020 | CHICAGO, IL

The Chicago Cubs guaranteed themselves at least a .500 record in 2020 with their 81st win of the year Saturday afternoon as they shutout the St. Louis Cardinals behind a complete-game effort by Kyle Hendricks.

The Cubs scratched across the first run of the game when Jason Kipnis' groundout to shortstop scored Jason Heyward in the bottom of the third. Kyle Hendricks helped his own cause two innings later when he laid down a safety squeeze that gave the Cubs a 2-0 lead.

Hendricks, who tossed a complete game-shutout against the Reds on August 11th allowed just three hits while striking out seven batters. With the win Hendricks improves to 13-5 on the year.

"He's been good for us all year," said Cubs backstop Willson Contreras. "You always know he's going to give you all he's got when he goes out there."

The outing by Hendricks was just what the doctor ordered after the Cubs and Cardinals 13-inning marathon yesterday.

"We needed that sort of start," said Cubs manager David Ross. "It's always good to be able to save your bullpen arms, especially late in the season when you're making that last push."

with just over a week left in the month of August, the Cubs maintain a healthy 9.5 game lead in the National League central division over the second place Milwaukee Brewers. However, the Cubs are well aware that they are not able to go into, "cruise control," as veteran Jon Lester mentions.

"You want to be playing your best baseball at the right time of the year," said Lester. "We've been doing that lately and we need to continue down the stretch and into the playoffs. Too many times teams have great regular seasons only to be bounced early in the postseason."

The Cubs will look to sweep the series against the Redbirds Sunday afternoon when a pair of aces square off against one another. Yu Darvis (16-3, 3.87) will start for the Cubs while Jack Flaherty (7-6, 3.70) is on the bump for the Cardinals.

                        August 27, 2020 | MIAMI, FL

The Chicago Cubs won their league-best 50th game on the road Friday night as they topped the Marlins in Miami, 6-4. Kyle Schwarber smashed a go-ahead, two-run homer in the top of the 10th to give the Cubs the lead and Craig Kimbrel notched his 38th save of the year as the Cubs took two of three from the Marlins.

"We've gotten great production at the plate all year and there's always someone that seems to step up in big moments," said Kyle Scharber after the game. "We know we're never out of a ballgame, no matter the score."

Tyler Chatwood made his first start since being activated from the injured list, completing five innings in a no-decision. The Cubs fell behind early but a three-run sixth and the homer by Schwarber in the 9th propelled the Cubs to the win.

The Cubs will continue their road trip tomorrow when they take on the New York Mets at Citi Field. The Mets currently hold the second wild card spot while the Cubs have a strong 11.5 game lead in the NL central division. The Cubs improve to 84-50 on the year and the magic number for a division title sits at 18.

Kyle Hendricks (13-5, 3.93) will start for the Cubs to open the series against the Mets. Steven Matz (12-7, 3.85) will be on the hill for the Mets.

"The series [against the Mets] should be an exciting one," said Cubs skipper David Ross. "We're late in the season and both clubs have postseason aspirations. It makes for some fun baseball and we look forward to the challenge."

2021 Baltimore Orioles September 6th-13th update

                          Overall Record:83-60 (1st AL EAST)

                          Series Results
                          Vs. Kansas City 1-3
                          Vs. Toronto
                          2-1

                          Battle For AL East Continues

The Baltimore Orioles again have a half game advantage of over the New York Yankees as the two squads get ready for their last series of the season. The Orioles won the series 11 days ago 2-1 after the team won the last two games after losing the first.

The Orioles will face the Yankees for the last time of the regular season in Baltimore. Thus far, New York holds the advantage in Baltimore, 4-3. The Orioles have struggled at home this season as a whole as they have posted a sub .500 record (35-36).

Since the last series with the Yankees in early September, the same has held true as the Orioles lost three of four to the Royals before winning two of three against the Blue Jays.

This next series could go a long way in deciding the winner of the AL East in 2021 especially if one of the teams are able to pull off a sweep.

Cardinals head into September on a slide

The Cardinals (77-53) are heading into September on a slide as they were just swept by the Diamondbacks at home. The Cardinals are just 5-5 in their last 10 and trail the Brewers by 2.5 in the Central and lead the Braves by just 1/2 game for the 2nd wildcard spot.

The Cardinals will start September with 3 against the Twins in Minnesota and then 2 in Kansas City before heading home for a big 4 game series with the Brewers.

Hopefully the Cards can turn things around to start the month.

Is anyone else experiencing a bunch of sudden losses when simming in Franchise?

Since Update 14, I feel like everytime I sim a game, it ends up in a loss.

Could just be me, but I'm curious if anyone else noticed or is experiencing the same thing as I.

                                Cardinals take series from Twins

The Cardinals (79-54) take 2 of 3 from the Twins to move to within a game of the Brewers in the NL Central and lead the Braves by a 1/2 game for the 2nd wildcard.

In a series that saw Goldschmidt, Arenado, and DeJong combine for just 2 hits, the Cardinals found a way to win the series after dropping the series opener on Friday night.

Tommy Edman, Tyler O'Neill and Dylan Carlson picked up the slack while the pitching staff was remarkable on Saturday and Sunday.

The Cardinals will be off Monday as they travel to Kansas City for a quick 2 game series with the Royals before heading home for a 4 game weekend showdown with the Brewers.
