Re: Franchise Mode Issues/Work-arounds 2021 Edition

After the many fixes to franchise here is a list of what I see that still needs addressing.

      1. (Trade logic)

*This is widely seen as a goal the team had this year, but after numerous tests there are some flaws. I do not want to see a quick band aid approach and eliminate “big” trades, but I think the logic needs tweaks.

I think rebuilding teams are too quick to trade young controllable superstars. Think Bichette and Mondesi etc. Trades now are more prospects for established young controllable players. I would like to see more vets, guys with big deals and expiring contracts, traded for prospects for the final push. Too many of the trades are guys in arbitration years. I believe the system sees players in arbitration and renewable years as in the final year of contract and does not take into account team control. Maybe a way to check if they have 5 years service time to determine the final year for renewable and arb players to be flagged for rebuilding teams to trade. Those types of players should be receiving a better quality of return. The same goes for players that are rated 90 plus and are superstars. Take a Mike Trout.

An example is Bichette is routinely traded and Seimen is kept. I believe it is because the system sees Seimen as having a multi year deal and Toronto is rebuilding and trading players in final year.

1a. With that being said players are signed in the offseason and immediately traded. This is unrealistic and a violation of the CBA."8. An Article XX-B MLB free-agent who signs a Major League contract after 11:59 PM (Eastern) on the 5th day after the final game of the World Series has an automatic "no trade" right through June 15th."

      2. (Roster Management)

The other issue is that teams will be designated for assignment young high potential players. These players become claimed and the cpu could hold onto them by just optioning them down. I'm not sure yet if that is why the teams 40 man rosters are reduced. I don't know yet, why they are designated them either. Players that are young with options and B to A rated are being designated for assignment. Some are not even on the ML roster; there really is no reason to designate them other than removing them from the 40.

Players are picked up in the rule 5 that are 77/78 A/B potential players aged 22-23. I think this is because they are not being added to the playoff roster. The rule 5 is overpopulated because teams are not protecting the players. You can see in this clip after year 1 and it also occurs 5 years in future. Year 2 had 6 rounds of Rule 5. This may be a result of 40 man logic.

      3. (Contract Logic)

Although this is drastically improved there are some issues with arbitration and free agent contracts.
Many players are accepting low contracts in the final year of arbitration. Kory Lee a 99 overall with 5 years MLB time accepts 8.2 mil. As well as others that are highly rated and final year.

Devi Garcia a 94 overall with 5 years service time accepts 6.2 mil coming off 2 seasons of 20 plus wins.

Their contracts should be at least double what they are.

It seems to be a product of not offering arbitration correctly from first year eligibility on appropriate value. You can see Sanchez in the video making more on his 4th year than Lee does in his final year.

The rules of not paying less than the year before are correct because after year one you can see that Judge and Turner win their arbitration cases and make more. That is because the rosters have a higher contract value, their real one.

Teams routinely sign SS that are 90 overall for contract in the 9-15 million range. Making what a relief pitcher would make. After the initial contract the same player, older, now will receive a contract for 20 plus million.

      4. Fix start times in franchise games. There are issues with some teams having too many day games.

*allow the user to trade renewable and arbitration eligible players before they sign the contract.

So what are the user fixes we can do to prevent this?

Do 30 team control and make the 40 man manual?

Does anyone know how to offer contract extension’s mid season and sign draft picks mid season?

I always to the digital version face scans over the real. I hate seeing their real pictures after they sign/traded to another team and their hats are all wrong.

So seeing the mets lineup with all mets hats and then Lindor in an Indians cap.

Just a pet peeve of mine. So I do the digital face scans

One weird thing I just noticed:

In my franchise, the Dodgers DFA'd Michael Grove - an A potential pitcher. He was later given his outright release and the Giants claimed him. When I checked the Dodgers roster, they still had a full 40-man roster. Didn't add up since Grove was initially on the 40-man roster. So who did they replace him with?

In the transaction log, I couldn't find anybody's contract being purchased. But I did see where the Dodgers recalled Jacob Amaya from AAA shortly after DFAing Grove. I'm basically using the default roster, so when I backed out of franchise, I looked at the Dodgers roster. Amaya wasn't on the 40-man. So I assume he wasn't on the 40-man to start my franchise and they must have purchased his contract at some point, but it never registered in the transaction log.

Yes. He is one that is dfa alot. I don't understand the logic either. I could understand if they had to clear a roster spot, but you would think the logic would look at overall, age and potential.

Did they cut the Team record books ?
I only find the MLB Records.
Why should they? My last was 17 and I played it till last summer. And it is in many franchise aspects a better game I might say.
I also don't know how how to figure out why a player has red/bad moral. And I'm not able to let a position player pitch in a blowout. Did the mlb make that illegal ?

In this case, they did clear a roster spot on the 40-man for Amaya. I'm not saying it's the most logical move, but I can at least justify it somewhat. While Grove is an A potential, he's also a 23-year-old 55-rated pitcher in the game.

Initially I thought they just DFAd him without adding anyone to the 40-man, since the transaction log didn't show any contracts being purchased. That would have bothered me a lot more.

The playoff eligibility rule is now corrected. As long as the player is on the 40 man by Sept 1 he is eligible for the playoff roster. No longer does the player have to be on the active roster. Injured players prior to Sept. 1 and return after are now eligible, as they should be! Great news!

                      10. There is a bug though, where if a player comes off dl in playoffs, it won't allow them to be removed or added. They kind of disappear and you play short handed. Shows they are on the roster. Video shows Gio on roster and playoff roster full. He is not on lineup screen and can't be removed from playoff roster. It says can't remove injured player.

This was such a well-written post. I'd like to think the work involved identifying this issue was recognized and appreciated and SDS clearly made it a priority with an early fix. Thanks for improving the game for all of us.

How do we get the CPU to stop messing with rosters? I took Ridin's roster made it 26 man vs 40 man and then I skip spring training... But when I do that, rosters are all ****ed up.

I thought in previous years, if we had rosters down to 26 man and skipped ST everything stuck... Is that not the case anymore?

Essentially all the work I'm doing now, is useless... WTF! I hope I'm doing something wrong.

Checked again because its bothering me.... So I have 26 man rosters plus injured guys in A.

Could that be the case because I have more than 26 guys?

Do you think Budgets work well as they are using 30-Team Control (1 USER Profile, 29 CPU Profiles) or would you recommend using Sponsorships at all? I saw that you said you don't use Sponsorships because the CPU doesn't, but if I set each team's Sponsorships, do you think that would be beneficial in any way?

For what it's worth, I plan on doing major free agent signings in the offseason for all teams and do some trades that I have pre-planned (Luis Castillo to the Yankees, Willson Contreras to the Marlins, Josh Hader to the Dodgers, etc.)

I have seen very few teams that have exceeded their budget. Many teams have $30 million plus in available funds after year 1. Pitchers get substantial contracts the SS position seems to be undervalued. Even if you jacked up the SS contracts I believe most teams would be well within their budgets.

If you choose to give sponsorships to every team an easier method would be to just turn budgets off. I have played that way the least two years because the trade logic would not allow normal trades due to salaries being disproportionate to what the system was designed for.

Have you noticed "prorated" contracts in franchise mode during trades?

I recently traded Andrew Miller ($12M) to the Indians for a generic prospect ($70k) and it increased my budget by only $7M and lowered the Indians by the same amount.

Trade occurred on June 26th or thereabouts.

I don't recall this ever being in the game, but maybe so and I never paid attention until now???

                                Just curious.

If/when I make additional trades in July, I'll try to capture a screenshot.
