2K football was great. But it is 2021 not 2005 or 2008. Again, great presentation and the on field game was excellent. Not perfect as many would lead you to believe, but excellent. It had many shortcomings.

2K basketball is in a league of its own.

2K hockey had potential but on ice was not so great.

The Show is the gold standard in baseball games. They are adapting as they go, and yes, they still have a long way to go. If they would stop shooting themselves in the foot and listen more to hardcore customers, they'd have a better overall game. On field is 9/10 but the rest of the package is 5/10.

Yes, I remember this attitude well, as it was posted in the 2K forums over and over. At the time, I said if they got there way and killed of 2K that the fans of the game would turn on The Show, without a competitor to trash.

    And here we are.

I’m enjoying The Show well enough, but I still miss MLB2K.

if I'm going to play any baseball video game not the Show you can bet your sweet patootie I'm going to make it worth my while and pop MVP 2005 in my trusty old ps2. and still so many other ways to play MVP 2005: XBox, Gamecube, PSP even Microsoft Windows

and if I have to choose a 2k baseball game I'll stick w/2k12 or 2k5 or even Sega's 2k3. I will compare 2k13 favorably to High Heat, Triple Play, 989's MLB, All-Star Baseball 05, and Slugfest Loaded

2K12 and 2K13 were the same game. 2K13 only released because of a last minute deal with the MLB, so it was only a roster update. If only more people owned a Sega Saturn because WSB98 is a forgotten gem. I never got to play MVP because I was on an EA strike since their football shenanigans'

I love The Show. It's an excellent game on the field and I'm glad I finally get to play it. The fans left me believing it was the most amazing game ever, and I personally don't see it, but it is a great baseball game, and I rank it very high overall. I used to moderate the 2K forums, and I know about those days lol.

To me 2k7 and 2k8 were my favorite and do things The Show still doesn't do.

For one the jerseys have physics and blow in the wind. The player models look more lifelike (I'm not talking about graphically I'm talking about body proportions)

The commentary is much more dynamic and feels like a real game, unlike The Show that has had the same commentary template since 07.
I enjoy 2K7’s camera cuts on throws to 1st base. The addition of dynamic camera views in the show were a great addition back in 2014, but the camera views are once again getting stale. They need to add new ones!!!!

MLB 2K7 was a great game on the 360. I remember only wanting a few things to be fixed in future versions (too many homeruns, etc.) but then they went and ruined it. I remember the developers touting how old the code was and how 2K8 will be completely rewritten, and well...we know how that turned out.

Sad 2K couldn’t build off the momentum they had going with 2K7.

You can turn ball markers to fade. So you see break and starting point

Different developer took over after 2K7. That’s why it got worse.

Finally someone else knows the amazingness that WSB 98 was. I will die on the hill that it's one of the best baseball games of all time.

It was the first game I actually played an entire 162 game season in. It was with the Rockies and I didn't even make the playoffs. But it was so fun.

MLB 2K7 had some incredible elements for its time, especially the presentation (I personally loved the pregame stuff with fans actually walking around outside the ballpark). I remember being so excited to see where 2K8 would go, and while the game had some ground-breaking stuff such as the analog controls for every aspect of the game (which The Show went on to borrow), unfortunately 2K8 stumbled before it even got out of the gate. Other areas of the game took quite a bit of a hit such as the visuals and framerate. Anyone remember how awful the grass looked compared to 2K7? And the framerate was just a mess. The patches helped a bit with the fps, but 2K8 was never as smooth as it should have been and grass still looked like green pavement.

I remember reading afterwards that there was a major shakeup at Kush studios and something went sideways in development and another studio (Blue Castle, the guys who also worked on the excellent Bigs series) had to jump in part way through and try to salvage things for release. With that in mind, they did an admirable job, but it always saddened me to know what might have been if 2K8 was the next step in the "3 year cycle" that Brinkman at Kush had originally planned...Honestly if the visuals/fps hadn't been so rough, I think 2K8 would've been quite highly regarded as the gameplay was a big step forward...but very few took it seriously because of the graphics and poor framerate.

Then things suddenly looked up when we got word that the NBA/NHL 2K guys (Visual Concepts) were taking over for 2K9. The first year was rough as they scrapped the whole engine and started from scratch, but they actually managed to do some revolutionary things even that first year, such as real time presentation, which is something the Show once again promptly copied.

2K10 was the year they really got the momentum going, both on the field and in the booth, and The Show once again had some serious competition, and some more things to borrow, and that trend carried on for the next couple years, for the betterment of both games.

I never saw one series as better than the other. They both did different things, some better than the other, and the competition was healthy (for the devs, not for OS lol) as we saw both series improve as a result.

I just wish we still had that. As good as The Show is, it doesn't have any serious competition, and that can and does breed complacency and staleness. I give SDS a lot of credit for not resting on their laurels to the same extent as EA has, but there's no doubt it would be an even better game if there was still another capable horse to contend with. Hopefully it doesn't take a major social media outcry like we saw with Madden in order for SDS to also finally give franchise some serious love, for instance.

The throwing meter alone was light years better than what we have in The Show, and that's just his 1st point. Most of the others are additional settings/options/presentation elements that would be absolutely awesome if in The Show...so I have to wonder if you even read his post all the way through, or if you actually spent any time with 2K.

I did play through a full season on both WSBII and WSB98. I'm glad someone remembers them. Nothing was close to those games for a long while.
