Re: Things MLB2K13 still does better
There is no point in trying to argue with people like that. As I said earlier, The Show crowd has too many that laugh at the mention of 2k and act as if The Show was God's gift to earth while 2k was the worst sports game ever.
It definitely improved tremendously by 2k12, was basically a copy and paste for 2k13, but it was a great playing game. Unfortunately it wasn't bringing in the money 2k wanted. I would love to see where the series would be if it were still around today. It was on the same trajectory from a quality standpoint that NBA 2k was on. I believe that NBA 2k21 on next gen is the best playing sports game of all time, passing APF 2k8, so I can only imagine what MLB 2k21 would be like and how it would have pushed The Show to be even better also.

If Visual Concepts had kept with their updates at the pace between 2K10 and 2K12, I wouldn't see MLB2K being too much greater. I mean, the work they did for 2K10 was outstanding, especially the mess they had with 2K9 after taking the series from Kush Games (Funny enough, the WWE franchise is currently having that transitional problem, which explains the state WWE2K20 came out as).
I'll probably get lol's for this, but MLB2K8 had the best implemented mechanics of any baseball created. Too bad it had a shoddy game engine backing them (I still miss the ability to risk circus catches for fly balls).
APF2K8 is still amazing. I still play it. I don't know if you've seen this compilation video of APF, but it really shines on how advanced the game play engine was, and still is, in that game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yqWUbB9HEcComment

I agree with this, The Show does this as well but you’ll only notice the difference in the sweetspot of the meter with an insanely hard play."When it's all set and done, reality is the best innovation."Comment

Re: Things MLB2K13 still does better
I think some throws shouldn't even have a green spot to hit. Maybe a spot that has minimal risk for a throwing error with the outer meter having greater risk. So, for instance, if I dive for a ball, and my fielder throws to a base while on his butt, instead of having green and yellow in the meter, it should only be yellow and red.Comment

Re: Things MLB2K13 still does better
To me 2k7 and 2k8 were my favorite and do things The Show still doesn't do.
For one the jerseys have physics and blow in the wind. The player models look more lifelike (I'm not talking about graphically I'm talking about body proportions)
The commentary is much more dynamic and feels like a real game, unlike The Show that has had the same commentary template since 07.Comment

Re: Things MLB2K13 still does better
I agree on all points. 2k felt like a TV broadcast. The fielding meter in 2k is light years better than the show. I like pinpoint pitching in the show better but its marginal.
2k had one fatal flaw for me though and its why I could never stick with it long term. Hitting was not good and sliders could never fix it for me.2016 NLL Champion Saskatchewan Rush

Now, if you're talking 2K9 and releases before, I agree...hitting sucks. Visual Concepts implemented true ball to bat physics in 2K10, which the series never had before then (oh 2K7, how many times I got to experience ghost bat).
I think 2K8 had the best pinpoint pitching mechanic. It also had release timing (Visual Concepts removed the release timing of the mechanic), but what makes it better is that 1.) You could control the amount of effort on pitches, and the more effort, the harder the release timing and 2.) You can play two players on a single console without giving away pitch selection (if you can in The Show's pinpoint, I'd like to know how).
I like the implementation of pinpoint in The Show. I think they did a good job, but much like the fielding meter, I think it's too easy. About 70% of my pitches are perfect pitches (regardless of difficulty), and I don't see how pitcher confidence or pitcher fatigue affects it.Last edited by cvantu; 05-01-2021, 03:09 PM.Comment

Re: Things MLB2K13 still does better
That hides only pitch location. Can you hide pitch type without turning the gesture graphic off (with that off, you will be forced to remember all gestures by memory, and guessing gesture speed and release end point). I'm thinking really the only thing that can be done is to use a different pitching mechanic.Comment

Re: Things MLB2K13 still does better
That's interesting to me because, as someone who has never played The Show until now, I adapted very well to the hitting because I found it nearly identical to hitting in 2K (2K10 - 2K13). The swing timing, pitch speeds, and pitch breaks, are very similar between the two franchises. Maybe you're specifically talking about 2K only being swing timing reliant (though you could influence)?

Re: Things MLB2K13 still does better
Wow, even on Legend (2K12/2K13)? Hats to you because I never got that good at hitting in the game. I'd say my hitting is better on The Show, especially since starting to use the contact swing. I use zone hitting. I had to bump up to HOF in RTTS because my player was batting over .500 after 20 games, though I'm sure being in AA has a factor. My average in online ranked HOF is .265 with the Indians, which I find perfect.Last edited by cvantu; 05-01-2021, 04:33 PM.Comment

Re: Things MLB2K13 still does better
Gotcha. I'm glad online ranked plays a good game. I'm 20-1 at the moment. I've noticed that pitch release always reads as "very late" from my opponents, and I'm assuming that's because they're probably using meter pitching? Pinpoint pitching has made me nearly untouchable with a current .671 ERA and 290 strikeouts. Being able to paint corners nearly at will is the factor, and I do wish they made pinpoint pitching a bit harder.Comment
