As a former Pirates fan, I can say without a doubt that it's Bob Fu*king Nutting.

Re: WORST OWNER IN MLB
If you are looking at this strictly from the perspective of the "worst owner" viewpoint, then you cannot count the Tigers in that boat.
The Illitch family, which owns the Tigers, and Red Wings, would have to rank as one of the BEST ownership family in all of Professional sports. Now, I know that both teams are currently in rebuild mode. But, you cannot really pin that on the ownership. Both teams (especially the Red Wings) had a tremendous amount of success under the current ownership. The Red Wings won 4 Stanley Cups, and twice lost in the finals as well. The Tigers, from 2006-2014 had just one losing season, won 4 consecutive A.L. Central Division titles, made 4 trips to the ALCS, and twice went to the World Series.
Yes, the Tigers are a mess right now, but that is more to do with bad trades, and free agent signings that didn't pan out.
You cannot put that on the ownership.Comment

Re: WORST OWNER IN MLB
Having your backup teams as the O’s & Mariners - not sure if you may need a MLB intervention - you sure know how to pick’em 😂😂😂😂 You should check out this documentary on the Seattle Mariners - it’s long - but one of the informational sports documentaries I’ve ever watched (it’s about the Mariners)
Thanks again for the reply 👍🏻Comment

Re: WORST OWNER IN MLB
Yup, the Rockies by a distance as they are just staggeringly incompetent. It's not like they are cheap like a lot of owners, or scummy, or just don't quite make the right moves to win the lot, they actively act like they are playing a different sport to everyone else. They consistently make decisions no other team would makeComment

Re: WORST OWNER IN MLB
There should be an exception for revenue sharing and for the competitive balance draft picks for owners like Nutting who just stuff the extra cash in their pocket and continue to field a lousy team.≡Comment

Re: WORST OWNER IN MLB
I would say the Mt. Rushmore of worst owners is:
Pittsburgh: The owner is worth $1.1 Billion and the team plays in the nicest ballpark in the league. But the team has never had an opening day payroll of over $100M and prefers to stay in a never ending rebuild cycle then pay for a couple free agents or a generational player like Cutch. The largest contract in team history is still Jason Kendall for $60M in 2000!
Oakland: The wealthiest owner in MLB at $2.9 billion and owns a team in one of the wealthiest areas of the country. But he continues to cry poor and oversee a never-ending search for a new ballpark that would be old enough to buy a West Coast IPA. They also were going to be the only team to not pay their minor leaguers to save a few bucks during a pandemic.
Tampa Bay: While the team is relatively successful they are run 100% like a business and 0% for a fanbase. With players constantly on the move fans can never get attached to any player and have to watch the team in a ballpark that is an embarrassment. Did that ball hit cat ring 4 or cat ring 5? On top of that the owner appears to be the only human on the planet who thinks splitting the teams season between two countries is possible and a good idea. If you cant get one ballpark built why not go for two.
Colorado: The only team to never win their division or a world series. Unlike the other teams on this list the Rockies actually spend money. But they have always seem to be on a different planet then the rest of the league and always behind the times. They play in a unique climate but they never seem to have a clear plan or idea on how to build a team in attitude. The team lost 90+ games in back to back years, trades away the best player in franchise history for almost nothing AND gives St. Louis $51M and the owner tells the media he thinks the team will compete for the playoffs. That is next level incompitance.Comment

Oakland: the fact that they have an entire upper deck that is not seated - to bring in more potential income (although it may still not help) - is beyond me - I TOTALLY understand the recognition of the retired numbers but you’re losing out on revenue - build some statutes instead & to NOT pay your minor league farm system - Criminal!
Tampa Bay: Yes - it is astonishing some of the decision making that is going on in Florida - but hey - at least there’s Wando!
Colorado: Not much to be said - trade away your franchise player for peanuts & then about to lose another one in Story
Great feedback man!!! Love the conversationComment

Re: WORST OWNER IN MLB
The A's actually removed the tarps from the 3rd deck back in 2017 but for some reason, SDS has failed to recognize this and keep them in the game the past 4 years.Last edited by Holy Toledo; 06-13-2021, 06:17 PM.Comment
