Re: MLB lockout
All of these changes about "improving" the flow and/or marketability of the game just don't work for me. They are quickly moving to a game I no longer want to watch anyway.
I understand my opinion does not matter and is in the minority. But all of these changes for the attention lacking folks of this day and age are just ruining pro sports. Not everybody should get the trophy. In Loving memory of my "Cricket" 1/2/96 - 11/19/2012

My dad used to complain about the game back in the 90s, that it wasn't the game he grew up watching. But I loved it back then.

Re: MLB lockout
I don’t disagree with you about changing the basics of the game, it’s a great game but I just did some research and back in the 40s and 50s the average game was about 2 hours, last year it showed the average was around 3 hrs 15 minutes. What changed?
With the price of beer at the ballpark, cutting a hour off of it would save me a lot of money.Last edited by IndianSummer; 03-06-2022, 07:20 PM.🇺🇸 58,281 🇺🇸Comment

Re: MLB lockout
When I was a kid watching the Cardinals at Sportsman’s Park and Busch Stadium the games never seemed to last long enough.
It seems to me the batters alway kept their back foot in the box, got the sign from 3rd base coach and stepped right back in…….I could be wrong, that was quite a few years ago.🇺🇸 58,281 🇺🇸Comment

What I just can't get on board with are the rules that change the basic nature of the game. Banning the shift, runner on 2nd in extra innings, Pitchers having to face 3 batters and such like this. I don't even really mind bringing the DH to the NL, though of course I would prefer they did not. I guess I just don't see how any of these kinds of rules do anything to improve the game.
I am not completely against change. Just change that seems to have no real point to it.In Loving memory of my "Cricket" 1/2/96 - 11/19/2012

Re: MLB lockout
Going back to some of these is what is needed. I do find it annoying that the batter has to adjust everything from his thumb guard to his jock strap every time he swings a bat. I even understand the pitch clock.

Re: MLB lockout
Yeah. I liked the "Lefty" specialist and all that. But I agree the whole warm up thing seemed a bit extreme. I always thought "You just warmed up why do you need 8 more pitches.?" I get it if you are coming in cold for an injury or what not. But that was about it. But I bet if they limited the Batter to staying in the box and quit all the crap they would not need a pitch clock. In Loving memory of my "Cricket" 1/2/96 - 11/19/2012

Re: MLB lockout
rem players need at least 3 weeks for some kind or spring training
we are looking at a 60-80 game season
best case is a deal gets done between April 7-15 which would mean around 110-120 games with opening day around may 7-15
worst case is around may 27-june1st which would mean another 60-70 game season opening day wouild be july 1st-4th
the big q is there 8 owners willing to lose a whole season to try and break the unionComment

Re: MLB lockout
was it 2015 or maybe 2016 where they forced the batter to keep at least one foot in the box?
I imagine pitchers coming out to warm-up has more to do with tv and commercial breaks now than the pitcher needing to warm up.Comment
