Players still looking over MLB proposal.
But, contingencies — like int’l draft & extra CBT surcharge — plus insufficient movement in other areas not leading to the conclusion they think a deal is close to being made.

That's from about an hour and half ago now. Just you know keep your expectations in check.

yeah not gonna happen. just to many things to be done here.

expect tomorrow instead of 162 games it will be another week canned and we will be down to 150 games left and more fighting over service time.

That’s his interpretation of what’s being reported. To my knowledge, there is no leaks on mood or tenor from either camp this time around?

I tend to believe today was the first day both sides felt like they were in the same area code. Does that mean a deal follows soon? Who knows. But the fact no one has used the media today for leverage, and the only reports are factual proposals and counter proposals is very very promising.

It says "not leading to the conclusion they think a deal is close"

That seems to imply he was talking to someone from the players side in the negotiations and not giving his opinion.

New deadline is tomorrow afternoon. So we will wake up tomorrow morning with them saying they couldn’t come to an agreement.

The way I interpreted his tweet was, here is where the owners are, and this where the last know location the players wanna be at on core issues is. Which, a gap still exists there. We also know the players don’t want an international draft, and we know roughly half of the contingencies favor the owners.

Nothing I’ve read from anyone in Manhattan or connected to the situation has any kind of comment or feel on how imminent a deal is or isn’t. His tweet seems to be a series of dotted lines wrapped up in HIS feel for the situation.

My degree was in journalism, and it is almost always prudent to explicitly outline when information is coming from a source, even if an anonymous one. I could be very wrong on this though.

FWIW Bob Nightengale looked at the same information and believes a deal gets done by tomorrow. I don’t believe either beyond it being educated opinions.

I haven't seen Nightengale say that. Are you talking about earlier in this thread where someone mistakenly thought he said something along those lines?

Nightengale said in a podcast that he thinks a deal is made by tomorrow. If you Google his name it comes up.

I believe this is the closest they’ll get before a May or June opening day. If they can’t agree on international player draft or work out the difference of $30-$40M now, they will have a tough time with service time issues thrown in.

At that point, the players will have to give up more to get a full year credit.

The owners are reviewing the counter now. The players lowered the bonus money to $70 with $5 raises each year. If they go down to 50 they probably have a deal.

They won’t get to 50 both teams are only going up by 5 or 10 mill at a time. At least not today they will.

I'm not a fan of 14 teams in the playoffs or ghost wins. I just don't think there are enough teams to justify it. Now if they want to expand and add a couple teams and rework the conferences/divisions then I might be ok with it, but we know that isn't happening.

And I'm not a fan of the 1 game playoff/play-in. It's baseball. All series should be a 3, 5, or 7 games (conf champ/world series), in my humble opinion.

I guess the biggest issue is the international draft. Players are hesitant on it.

Stuff like that I feel could be tabled during the year. Or more time to evaluate the benefits.
