I'm not quite ready yet to say an April release is imminent. possible, yes. likely, I'm doubtful on that.

this isn't the Studio's first rodeo. these guys are top notch professionals and know how to get it done (and how important it is to get it done).

the double whammy of the new ps5 and the pandemic caused the delay last year but the only way I see an April release this year if MLB management still has a lockout in place.

otherwise I look for a Tuesday March 29th target, with an early access release if preordered being Friday March 25th. just my best educated guess.

having said that, I won't be disappointed or surprised if 22 gets a April 5th, 12th or 19th release for some other unseen reason than a lockout. but as it stands today I lean end of March release expectation

Season 12 for Ranked Seasons will go through April 11, 2022.

That might also be noteworthy.

My guess is early access for 22 will begin 4/19/2022.

IF they haven't overlapped 2 Show years in the past
(and I'm completely unknowledgeable on that subject as I don't do Ranked Seasons)
I'd say that is extremely noteworthy. could be a very keen observation

I could be wrong. I don't have any evidence but I don't *think* they've overlapped in the past. In terms of selling the new game, keeping a ranked season open in another game would seem to be counterintuitive. Especially in terms of launch week sales.

You always popping in with the doomsday scenario. There was never any expectstion that they would have been close to a deal at this point. They agreed to take winter break and get back to it. Theres still not goinf to be a deal until very close to or spring training. Just because you didnt hear that they are close doesnt mean they are going to miss ganes

I don't know how a later release date is 'doom and gloom' if the game is good. but you shoudl block me if you don't like my realistic takes' or do you prefer me to say a deal with be done tomorow I am 100% certain on that and all is good?>

I think it is just a marketing ploy. football season over the attention from everyone is on baseball. the NFL is the BIG SPORT and no one is thinking about baseball during the playoffs. Feb a pretty quiet time after the Super bowl so it makes sense.

There is a zero % chance that there would have been a deal by this date. Nothing has changed. Them reaching a deal would be closer to end of February. If it pushes into March, then it def can threaten games in the season but nothing now is going to portend on wether or not they will reach a deal, when the pressure is on, at the end of Feb. In any negotiation that is contentious, there is no reason to concede/cave 6 weeks before the deadline or when you need to .

Cant be true?? What is the point of releasing the game during the season?? None of the other major sports video games are released during the season.

Just using this as a reference here.

Nhl 22 released October 16 but the NHL started on October 12 so releasing during the season does happen.

Unrelated to the above, releasing at the beginning of the regular season or just after the season starts I think makes sense. People are watching the real sports getting hyped to play thus increasing their potential buyer base. It is a marketing ploy but it makes sense.

I know a popular opinion is that this “extra” time (April rather than March) could be being used as additional development time — which could hold true; however, it is most likely a marketing strategy as you alluded. The game is more than likely developed and gone gold by March.

I remember the days where the cover guy was revealed in Oct-Nov, and teasers were released before Christmas. This franchise has been so successful over the years it makes you wonder how that “old” strategy would be any less effective than what they are doing now. I have always been under the thinking of keeping your audience close, even in the off-season. Throw in a reminder to everyone that baseball still exists in the Winter, and “Hey, look what you get to look forward to!”. Now we get slammed all at once in February/March. I’m unsure which is more successful, but I sure know which one I like more lol. My degree isn’t in Marketing, so perhaps my ramblings strike similarly to a Johnny Damon throw to home plate from deep center field. ��

It will. SDS would likely be in breach of contract with the MLB and MLBPA if they don't and have to pay huge sums of money. Other games have released during lockouts or strikes. My guess is that part of the contract is something like a 60 day release window that the company has to release the game in.

That article in the post above this is pure speculation and highly unlikely at absolute best.

And despite them being apart on a lot of things right now, the MLB and MLBPA are still on the same page about the game is my guess. Because that is about money and image. The game benefits both. There is no reason it will be delayed. SDS uses their contract with the MLBPA to show images of the players and with MLB to show likenesses of stadiums, uniforms, etc is my guess. Since SDS is not in a contract dispute with either of these entities, there is no delay to the game.

That article is super non factual.

Also, everyone here says the show neglects franchise and caters to pay to play modes. I dont believe pay to play modes would be affected at all by real MLB games being played so no reason for them to not release. Even if it were all legends im sure these kids would still play and spend money on cards.
