You should listen to better baseball people, then. What you’re saying isn’t possible. This isn’t a strike, the owners have locked the players out. There won’t be replacement players.

I may be wide of the mark, but wouldn't they be pretty much unable to release the game if the lockout hasn't ended, because they wouldn't be able to use any of the players likenesses with the teams? Even baseball reference doesn't have the pictures up, so how would a game be able to release little cards with guys playing for teams that aren't allowed to legally represent?

They can because of the Contract

The problem gonna be not many teams have a complete roster anyway. players protrats many will be missing. and the rosters will be a unbalanced mess because we haven't even finished free agency, the Braves they would have to have Austin Riley playing 1st or Acia right now if the season stared tomororw. they could just put a prediction that Freddy Freeman would sign in

I'm not sure sure what you're referring to but the 2021 team pages are up with pictures of players in team uniforms. there isn't anything up for 2022 but I wouldn't expect that to be the case until mid-late February

also, look for Topps 2022 baseball cards to hit the market early February, players in team uniforms

my own personal opinion is if Show 22's release is delayed because of the lockout, I'd be inclined at this time to believe the Studio would only delay said release if MLB still had no CBA and the players were still in a lockout and SDS wanted to add a few extra touches.

but even that scenario doesn't really sound likely because SDS would need to treat their work on 22 as if it were being released much as normal. and to do that the game would have to be finished and already ''gone gold''.

and so then it wouldn't make financial sense to destroy whatever copies were already pressed, and then repress later with more polish.

I hope that makes sense because I feel like I probably haven't articulated what I'm trying to say very well

ID take Jim Bowden and Jim Duquettes word on MLB network over a faceless name on a message board. Just me though.

They can release the game because they have separate licensing deals with the MLB and the MLBPA.

The lockout/CBA has no bearing on whether the game can be released or not. Could it delay as SDS tries to release with as accurate as possible rosters, or even add new CBA things into the game? Sure, but the lockout in no way prevents SDS from being able to release the game.

Agreed. And rosters seem like the lowest on the rung to prevent a release especially considering they update roster every other week as is.

The teams aren't allowed to use or profit from the players likeness though, so presumably they'd have all the players and all the teams, but not be allowed to have the players on the teams? Seems kind of messy, I imagine they are seriously hoping that doesn't have to happen

the teams may not be allowed to,
but the Studio can use players likeness,
and also profit from it as well

What is happening between the owners and players (CBA agreement/lockout) has no barring on the video game due to SDS having individual licensing with the MLB and the MLBPA.

I would imagine players would be on the teams they were on when the lockout took place and free agents would be in the free agent pool should the game release under lockout conditions.

the irony here is Minor league transactions are allowed to take place and if they didn't have an AB or innings pitched last year or on the 40 man IR all last year they won't be in this years game (which is most of the signings happening the last month)

If you were worried MLB The Show 22 might not arrive on time, a new report has some very good news for fans.

Maybe some good news, or just more speculation?

at the end of the day it's still speculation. while it's true the Show has both a mlb and mlbpa deal and could release 22 even if the lockout were still ongoing come April, Sony could decide to wait to coincide that release in conjunction with the season start

Realizing it's a long shot, but I'd hope any changes to the CBA that have a place in franchise mode could be added. So far, nothing too dramatic looks to be in the works in negotiations, but we'll see.
