I haven't watched the interview. Did he actually specifically say that the long-term vision is to have both modes in the game?

If so, that's just an odd decision. Both are franchise modes, one just forces you to sim games, the other gives you the freedom to play or sim when you want. Both are competing for resources and we've already seen this year and last that some features that make it into one mode do not make it into the other even though they are features that should be in both.

I'm also not one that expects franchise mode to go anywhere. If franchise mode is ever removed from the game, I will assume we will be at a point where MtO is the new franchise mode allowing you to play every game. Franchise mode would only be gone in name only at that point.

Nick implies in the interview that they are not competing for resources, they are shared resources between these two ways of playing.

I posted elsewhere that I believe MTO is the name of the new platform and presently the interface that we call MTO at present is one way of playing: ‘express MTO’ that is built on the MTO foundation that franchise mode will eventually be migrated to.

He mentioned one of their priorities being making sure important exisiting franchise mode features are migrated to MTO.

Hence my suggestion we should rank those features to give them that information.

Remember when "Franchise" mode meant controlling aspects of a "Franchise"? This word should mean Owner options like we had on PS2 (from Stadiums to Hot Dog prices). All we have now is "Season" and "Sim most of Season", with fewer options than the former mode known as "Season" had.

I guess the question would be is what is easier? Putting stuff from MTO to Franchise or putting stuff from Franchise to MTO.

Nick said that if we wanted the free agent screen in Franchise it would take a lot of time.

Nick actually mentioned this in the interview with Emmdot. He said that when those options were in the game they had literally no impact on anything else in franchise mode. Didn't change your revenue or budget or anything. He said that IF they ever add something like that back in the game, they want to make sure that it will actually have an impact on other aspects of the mode

Some of us have said this for years as the solution for being unable to find a way to dynamically create a new schedule each season.

This is the main addition I would love to see in franchise. If they could take a look at NHL 22’s franchise mode, you can change pricing on everything from hot dogs to merchandise, then your owner gives you goals like upgrading the parking at the arena or renovating the restrooms. It adds that little bit of missing control I think. Of course, I do want it to actually have an effect on revenue and attendance. I’d also like to see more customization on that. My dream would be to allow custom merchandise that could be uploaded to the vault. So if Nike is one of your sponsors, you can customize your own Nike tshirt or sweatshirt with your team’s logo and secondary logo and colors etc. Then it could be iterated upon by allowing you to pick your team’s official hot dog vendor with fake (or REAL!) companies that you can put advertisements in stadiums for. A fan engagement metric could change based on whether people like the hot dogs, or want a different brand. I think a system like this would add a massive layer of depth to franchise mode.

I would also really love to see two additions to franchise that have been in the NBA 2K series. One is “start today” and the other is “scenario”. These allow you to start a franchise mode with accurate rosters and stats on the actual day of the season. Assuming this would not be possible with custom rosters, you could then have a scenario mode where people upload their own custom franchise files. We would also need more in the 30 team control system to allow us to change wins and losses and even individual stats. These additions would seem to fit in their philosophy of making the mode more accessible to people who cannot play every inning of 162 game seasons. I also always get the itch when going through my franchise to restart with better rosters, etc. this would make it possible to restart with accurate stats say in July or August.

Expanded playoffs - will they be in MLB 22? I haven't seen anything one way or another, but thought I'd ask as I see Universal DH was confirmed outside of the live stream setting.

My assumption based off of the Emmdot interview w/ Nick Livingston, is that they would like to incorporate as much of the new CBA into this years game as they can, however the timeline certainly makes a lot of those things questionable. I could see it either way honestly. I don't have any experience in game design so I'm not so sure how difficult it would be it implement

Past history would suggest the playoffs won’t be but there was already an option to have the DH in both the AL/NL so that should be user selection capable.

I agree with the author about march to October. Time spent on that takes away from franchise mode.

End march to October and focus on franchise. I've seen no valid explanation of why no y2y saves and therefore it has to be they simply don't have enough developers working franchise.

It has nothing to do with the number of developers working on the mode. They had one a few years ago and Y2Y saves existed

It has to do with plans they have for franchise mode and Y2Y saves are a major obstacle to overcome to achieve those plans.

For me I do 30 team control. I would have no problem if they merged the two IF and this is an important IF

1- I could still do 30 team control

2- Still make sure I am setting all the lineups and roster moves

3- Can play all the games if I choose to do so

If that went away I would stick with whatever last version of game I had that I could do those things in.
