I'm liking the smaller details announced for franchise. Still without an expansion team possibility (not just replacing a team and taking their roster) or the ability to change teams at will in franchise while sticking to 1 user team is unfortunate.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I start out every year trying to play only my team in franchise but get tired of all the poor roster moves and just do 30 team control. As a result my offseasons usually take a week as I try to make "smart moves" for every team - 40 man rosters, call-ups, etc.. I only turn on trades a week or so before the deadline and watch every move and then use the trade block to make teams take the best package for players they try to trade. It's very tedious but I've come to find quite the bit of joy competing with myself as new new good teams emerge.

Truth be told, I don't think developers (of any of these sports games) have one of the time, skill, or inclination (or the requisites levels in all combined) to actually program top-notch AI in video games. I'm not saying that to be critical but I'm certain programing "human level intelligence" that is up to everyone's standard is much harder than people know if not outright impossible. I'm not aware of any video game that does it...Then again the Rockies just signed Kris Bryant to a 7 year deal LMAO. The base AI logic might not be far off!

Beyond that, I guess 15 year contracts are cool for the very few who actually make it that far and $35M is better than $30M even though that's less than the mlb max now. Something is better than nothing

So another year of the same stale franchise mode? With the same buzzwords of every show for the last five years like “logic improvements” and “under the hood adjustments” while they shove MTO down our throats? So business as usual then.

Zero excitement for this years game

I agree. I have been saying this. When OOTP can't even really get team logic right, Im going to think its really possible now with user help. I would just love tools to help manage this like ability to lock a player into a starting lineup, ability to lock a minor leaguer in aaa for a season since the team is contending type of thing , etc

I was really hoping for created draft classes but wasn't holding my breath. Other than that I'm fine with all of these much needed under-the-hood changes.

Yea same ole noise. I swear you could pull up interviews and such from the show 17 and it would sound exactly like this years bs. So instead of really fixing anything it’s just repeated. FA issues are as old as the game, bullpen logic is same, trading is the same. Jesus.

I wonder and I am asking cause I have no idea. How much work and money would they have to spend to replicate all the AA, and AAA parks ?

Were these animations or celebrations in the game last year? The curtain calls and tipping of the cap?

I don't know how much it would cost to get the rights to each stadium and then go in and scan them. I do know to build each stadium accurately for the game that it would be a huge undertaking and likely not one that would be worth it from an analytics standpoint. I can't imagine the stadiums would see enough playtime to warrant the effort unless a huge amount of the DD crowd used the stadiums.

Two things - the budget changes are simplifying a franchise mode that should be made deeper by only counting salaries of players on the 40 man roster.

"Workhorse starters" will get a boost in the playoffs - did they not see what happened to Scherzer in the playoffs last year? He was used in relief 2 days after a start and was unable to make his next start due to fatigue.

Don't gimmick franchise mode. Save that for MTO and the other modes.

Positives are trade logic and - if true - balls curving foul have been reduced although I'll believe it when I see it.

I haven't delved that deep into the pool, still easing into it like an old man into a warm bath, but I imagine if you're a big market size (NY/LA) and losing it will still be easier to put fannies in the seats than to win in Oakland or Tampa. and from there, bigger attendance = bigger revenue = bigger budget = bigger free agent signings

                        so, it's true, size matters
